Giovanna, thank you so much for sharing your story. My 6 year old daughter has sickle cell anemia and your story has helped her to understand that other people out there are affected by this disease. God bless you!
Giovanna, I am in tears right now as I watch your submission. My 10 year old daughter also has sickle cell anemia and it is good that you are letting people know that this disease does not effect African Americans alone. With you being so open about your experience it can help other kids with sickle cell feel more comfortable to speak about it without being scared of their peers teasing them.I too have this disease so I relate 100%. I wish you well in your fight and congrats.
@alexviv29 Can you get the word out to all of your friends with sickle cell that the Faces of Courage - Santa's Workshop Weekend is coming up fast and we would like to invite all diagnosed children between the ages of 3 and 12 AND their well brothers and sisters to attend this free camp. The camp is December 3-5 at Rotary's camp FL in Brandon. To register they can call Peggy Sherry at 813 389 9339....
Giovanna you are a very beautiful and well spoken young lady. I'm so glad that you were selected as the poster child. You are doing a great thing by changing the face of Sickle Cell. Keep up the good work! You can do anything you put your mind too. God bless you!
I am in the 8th grade and i am doing a project on this for health...i cant believe that people r really having this type of disease.God bless you Giovanna for letting the world know..!!
You are a true brave little girl..Thank you for getting the word out.The medical community can do more but will not becuase of the sterotype that only people of color have Sickle Cell.Let us get the attention Cancer recieves..
@Pandalove321: Okay, just wondering because youtube is full of racists and whenever I see a racist comment I flag it. I do agree that SC should get the attention cancer gets!
Congragulations on being theposter child of 2009-2011
my question is ...you stated that you are "White", am am wondering from which country is your ancestry because it is true that Sickle Cell affects persons of color.
Hi. My husband and I are of Hispanic ancestry. Unfortunately, you don't see many of us speak up about this very serious disease. We are trying to bring lots of awareness and trying to get more support from the community and nationwide. It's a cause that needs a lot of more media coverage. Hope your son is doing well and keep spreading the word on Sickle Cell. Don't ever stop fighting.
@alexviv29 Thank you so much for sharing your story. My daughter is also 10 years old and has sickle cell anemia. I started a community Facebook page to help our friends and family to better understand what sickle cell anemia is and the effect it has on your life...
