  • he hates phillip way more and with good reason

  • "capybara: caplin hated person: Carol" XD

  • i had a nightmare once a while back about a large rodent clicking its teeth in my shower! Well I guess its settled, im not getting a cute rioded out hamster :( oh well

  • That look like dangerous animal.

  • I don't like Carol much either.

  • After this video he made a huge dump in the pool.

  • why did he go from hating her, to liking to be scratched by her, to being nervous?

  • i think im going to die if i dint get 1 of these

  • that SCRATCHING-on-the-nose looks so great o.O lucky dude

  • hey everyone this is carol and right after this video was filmed, Caplin unfortunately chewed off and ate three of my fingers on my left hand. i am still alive though. bye.

  • @Smagdaggot

Capybaras are cool, but I think you should get a guinea pig (same family as the capybara, very similar to the capybara, but a guinea pig is smaller).

  • naughty boy , why is he that mean ...grrr

  • I wonder if huffing and clicking can work for me with a certain co-worker! V"""V

  • I am 12 years old and I am trying to convince my parents into getting a capybara as our next pet and I have a question are they very affectionate animals? I just think that they are so beautiful and amazing

  • @Smagdaggot Please see my blog to get a better idea of what a pet capybara is like. However I can tell you right now that they are very affectionate, very loving, animals. On the other hand, they have a temper and they carry a grudge forever.

  • awwh thats sad

  • 1:34 lol Love her cause of that scrathch

  • He sounds like my hedgehog, Tamika when she's mad (all the time) hahaha

  • Do they show any defensive aggressive behaviors ? How do they defend themselves? I imagined them like Pandas which they may look cute, but they still act wild..

  • I'll bet if she gave him a popsicle, he wouldn't hate her anymore...

  • I WANT ONE!!! How do you get one?

  • He was clearly embarrassed at his initial rudeness.

  • I know a bigger rat !!!! look at : Kaarthouder opent tijdens WK2010 met gorgelhamer

  • has he ever bit you or anything extreme like that?

  • Poor Carol. :( Too bad he didn't like her. Caplin is very cute!

  • i was wondering do they interact well with dogs and like regular rats please respond

  • @melbertimis I know of a couple of capybaras who have dog co-pets and they get along great. Caplin sees dogs when we go around town and he is fine with them although some dogs bark at him and occasionally that will scare him.

He does not act at all like a rat. Capybaras are herbivores whereas pet rats are omnivores and that makes a big difference in their personalities. Plus rats have useful hands and capys don't. He is very affectionate though.

  • @caplincapybara thank you for this information because i want a dog and a capybara and what i meant by and like regular rats i meant do they get along with them because i have one of thous to.

  • I would fry that fucker up with some eggs and toast

  • jajajajaja pinchi caplin

  • @neymoura You are a tool, you don't even know what you're talking about.

  • Poor Carol. I hope it didn't ruin her self esteem.

  • caplin is the greatest thing on youtube by far!

  • Wow, just like a Guinea pig!

  • I hope thats a salt water pool, otherwise this animal is gonna turn green

  • Caplin hates everybody that supports this animal cruelty. She doesnt belong there. Wild animals should not be removed from their natural environment to be kept as pets. Not only this is cruel to them as it also damages the ecosystem of where they actually belong.

  • You do realise people are saving caybaras by keeping them i ncaptivity? And Caplin is just fine. So shove that dick up your ass and shut up

  • @haydutraduke

How does breeding animals in captivity harm the wild populations? It doesn't. And appealing to nature is stupid anyway.

  • @haydutraduke, caplin is a 3rd generation captive bred. An entire different branch of capybaras. You just aren't going to give up though are you?

  • @Meatfortoeat YOU know I can't. That wouldn't be very troll like. Plus it doesn't matter if its been over 9000 generations. What they do to these capybaras and its environment is an absolute crime. People do not buy in to this ridiculous trend, this is ANIMAL CRUELTY!

  • @haydutraduke

    No it isn't.

    You're a tool.

Go get your tool buddies together and cry around a tree stump.

  • @Extra08 that video is ridiculous. lol.

  • @haydutraduke How is this cruel?

  • lol the ears

  • looks like the beginning of a pornflick i once saw!

  • I want one.

  • hehe dumb territorial animal. he doesn't hate her. just posing a bit. a bit of petting and a popsickle and she's probably welcome in the famiy :)

    she was a stranger?

  • She was staying with us for a few days. Caplin was fine the first 1.5 days and then decided he didn't like her. Once he makes that judgment, it takes a lot to get him over it.

  • I expect she wore cheap perfume that day, so he didn't want her getting in the water. He was happy enough getting a scratch but he didn't want anything that wasn't from Maceys in the water.

  • @DanFrederiksen I wouldn't call him dumb, but it's pretty easy to see. The pool is his safe place. Here's this stranger and WTF? This is my territory!

But of course he's open to bribes. A few popsickles and a scratching-to, and their BFF.

  • ...I want one now. So bad. Capybara's are addictive. ;D

  • That is the most adorable thing i have ever seen. I'm a dog lover and that thing makes me want to have one more than a dog. They seem so docile and ok with human interaction for an animal that comes from the wild.

  • Hamsters click too and they grind their teeth together when upset or screech. And who are you people to tell this person who is taking exceptional care of this capybara, that it shouldn't be their pet?! I think you need to go take care of your own animals and mind your own business and don't watch this if you don't like it.

  • in order to have a relationship with an animal, you have to treat it like another human being. They require the same love and attention and work. A lot of folks don't realize these things...then again that's why the HUman Society exists. People make me so mad lol

  • You certainly should not treat an animal like a human being. You need to treat it according to what kind of animal it is. But yes, it requires attention and dedication. Some animals more than others.

  • @themysticknight - You are wrong. Why? Because humans are animals too (and what realisticHomeboy said).

  • I've been bitten by my hamsters a numorous amount of times, when you first get them they bite because they are scared. But after a few days of cuddling and love for the little animals, they become so friendly!!! and that goes for most animals. The trouble is people aren't willing to take the time to train an animal not to bite or be affectionate with it and give attention. they buy dogs and cats and leave them alone or birds even, and expect them to just like the owner...not happening.

  • The capybara doesn't look mad, they look sarcastic and as for the people who are asking if they bite, my suggestion is don't get one if you are afraid of it biting you because chances are you're going to antagonize it and get it to bite then form all of this notions that OMG THEY BITE when you were the one who provoked it to... A lot of people buy pets, make them do terrible things by abusing them, then claim IT WAS THE ANIMAL THAT DID IT!!!

  • Not sure if I personally agree with owning capybaras. Although it has been a fantasy of mine since my first trip to the zoo after I got a guinea pig in the first grade. I can tell you love him very much and OBVIOUSLY take excellent care of him. What is his fur like? Is he soft or wiry? He is exceptionally cute. Those baby videos are beyond sweet. If you are going to own a non-domesticated animal at least you have educated yourself about his behaviors and needs .

  • His fur is very coarse, almost like wire. It's also sparse, and he is bald in places on his stomach and legs. Caplin is at least 3rd generation captive bred, it has to start somewhere.

  • @aeyana78 caplin is a domesticated capybara they are domesticated in south america

  • VERYYYYYYYYYYY COOL!

  • Hehe the big guy kinda reminds me of a beaver. Its the only rodent that can stay under water for 5 minutes.

  • You should give Caplin a big hamster wheel :)

  • that is truuueee!! But not for a zoo, just dont take then for your homes!

    They are not pet!

  • This one is a pet, and it seems to be a happy one.

  • how come they always look so mad? do they bite?

  • I don't think they do always look mad. In fact, I don't think they look mad at all. Normally he does not bite but in this video he is interacting with one of the two people in the world he has chosen to hate. He would bite Carol if he could.

  • I'm in love with Caplin :)

  • How do you keep the pool clean? I rehabbed a nutria and they poop in their water/pool, I had to drain it every day and refill it (kiddie pool)

  • He never used to poop in his pool, he used a smaller bowl that we had for him. Then I was gone for three weeks in Japan and Mongolia and he has developed the very bad habit of pooping in the pool. But he normally doesn't get in unless someone is watching him so we just scoop it out as soon as he makes it.

  • Does he bite ever? I imagine those grinding vegetation teeth are powerful like a horse?

  • He bit me once. He would absolutely bite either Carol or Philip if he could get hold of them. When he bit me, he bit through the seam of my jeans and was took a quarter-sized chunk of flesh. This incisors are very, very sharp, as they are for all rodents. The back teeth don't really come into play. But he's not a monster. If you look at later videos you can see he's mostly very sweet.

You should read his blog CaplinRous.blogspot

  • guinea pigs do this aswell

  • Caplin's nonchalant expression always makes me laugh, as do the credits. Thanks!

  • Does caplin have a mother or not?

  • No. I think Caplin was taken from his mother when he was about a week old. I got him when he was 11 days old.

  • You appear ambivalent about Mis.Caroline

I heard capybara's click for the first time.

It's a little known fact,I think. Thank you for teaching.

Is this the common behavior in rodent?

  • I think guinea pigs also click in aggressive displays. I'm not sure about other rodents.

Carol stayed with us for four days. Caplin loved her the 1st day. About 1/2 way through the second day, he started acting aggressive toward her. We don't know what triggered it.

  • Maybe he started to feel unsure? I don't know.

This is the first time I've heard a Capybara "huff". =D

  • He's such a character and always the cutie that he is.

  • I love the expression on Caplin's face when she's scratching him with the scoop.

  • lol me to :D
