  • You can make sounds like this on Poizone(fruity loops pugin)

  • Wicked Sinewaves!

  • belle démo, superbe.

  • Sw33t sounds. :) A bit detroitish tekno feel in the later half.. . .

  • how do you sequence it?

  • Funny, I also have a D-50 and Korg MS2000 in my rig. The Nord Rack and D-50 layered together make some of the best pads you'll ever hear.

  • I like what I hear. There is something hypnotically magical about minimalist electronic music. Dankeschön, KRAFTWERK!!

Oh yes, I still own a Minimoog that I purchased in 1981 in London. So far nothing has equalled its timbre. Live on Robert Moog!!

  • do you have to hook this rack up to a keyboard in order to get tones to sequence?

  • This is a very good synth

  • hi dere great sound thios is a stupid question but does the nord din sync into a drum machine for good rythem

  • 4:15 cum in my pants

  • can someone PLEASE answer me, do the rack ears for the Nord 2 fit on the Nord 1 rack? I think they are the same size, but have'nt seen it?

  • shut your face.

  • @siddacious kitty0706...

  • Hello, really like the sound of what you're doing. would you mind telling me how you put such a complex midi pattern into your nord please?

    thank you

  • yea, i'd like to know it too. and is that a D-50 below?

  • @bakerstreet

I wouldn't mind finding that out myself!

Also, does this connect via an audio interface?

  • omgz dude is the drum machine a triger for the nord!?

  • how do u connect the rack to a normal keyboard?! also.. does it the rack include a software when u buy it?! plz someone let me know cuz im willing to buy one!! thnx!!

  • Rack to keyboard? Midi cable I would imagine.

  • I'm sure any music store will give you what you need. Your questions are important and specific, don't trust youtubers for an honest and informed response.

  • sounds great...

  • Could you tell me which sequncer you used in this video?

I sold Nord Rack2 for my wife's birthday gift.

But,having seen your video,I came to want Nord Rack2 again.

  • Nord Lead and Modulars are not really great for emulations, despite what you may read.

Leads have their own character. Nord oscillators are clear and bright. They are not fat like most vintage VCO's.

I'm not sure about the Lead 2(x), but the Lead 1 filter always has automatic gain control, which drops the level as res is applied. This makes a thin narrow band output just from the res peak. Filter doesn't model overdrive. It is not a realistic emulation at all. It has its own sound.

  • Agreed, I wouldn't want to use my lead as a emulator.. it has too much character and awesomeness on it's own to try and pass it as something else.. the Lead is a amazing synth, and I'm quite glad I found a Lead 1.

  • what would you say IS a good emulator?

  • discodsp discovery pro

  • discodsp sounds like a softsynth, it doesn't even compared to the nord rack 2. its just like refx nexus trying to imitate virus...ain't gonna happen.

if you have money and want to sacrifice a bit of convenience get the actual hardware UNLESS its the hardware manufacturer making the software (eg: Novation V-station or Waldorf Largo).

  • It would really depend on what you would want to emulate. but IMO it would be better to just record the actual instrument you want to emulate :)

  • I just want to point out that all moog filters have automatic gain compensation built in, and bob invented the vcf.

  • Jean Michelle Jarre - Oxygene in Moscow

  • Arps are great! That's a starting place for song ideas. You can always shut them off and just tweak sounds.

  • ok someone flow me some knowledge. almost all vids i find on the shows the nord lead series doing arp stuff. is that what the nord lead shit is about, arppregiatos? i was thinking about buying one from what i read, but from what i hear, screw it. Ill keep my other shit. mainly my TI

  • I can guarrantee that the Nord Lead 2 is not about arps. I got one myself and i only in rare cases use it´s arp functions.

  • Yes I have to agree Korg does have alot more features on it. I always felt that the Nord's were and are seriously over priced for what they do. I mean now you have every other Synth companys mimicing each other that for what this Nord RACK mounted Synth does you can mimic with lets say maybe a Roland sh-201 or something like that... What do you all think let me know...

  • Hmm dificult to say , but if i had to buy one of these again i would prefer the korg, far more features in it !

  • Hey, alphacode909 - which one is better? MS2000 or Lead?

  • este tipo de arpegiador se parece mucho a la musica del musico electronico jean michel jarre.Por cierto en uno de sus videos jarre toca con syntetizadores clavia nord lead.

  • Very nice setup, one question though; What kind of keyboard stand is that? I really like the rack being above the keyboard and I can't find any of those stands anywhere.

  • That Rack above i believe is a Korg MS2000R

  • The Korg isn't a rack. It's a synth. The rack is the thing holding the synths (you know, the metal thing).

  • wow that was pedantic he meant the rack mounted synth.

  • kk got a question, ihave axiom 49 midi keyboard,fl studio and lots of vst plugins,so can i conect this thing to my midi and use anysound fromany vst and using the eefects from thenord?

  • Nords do not have any effects, nor inputs. Not the lead series anyway...

  • the first seconds remind me on Chaka Khan's Ain't nobody

  • You know what, nm ireally dont know what im talking about

  • Hi no you can use any synth Keyboard that have a MIDI interface and these days every synth has one.

  • oh alright. Cool, Thanks!

  • i think all the keyboard companies got together in the 70s and 80s and all decided to use the same midi system so if any keyboard or rack has midi it can connect to any other whatever the brand is

  • That's basically true, though MIDI didn't come out until 1982-3. It was mainly a joint effort between Dave Smith of Sequential Circuits and Roland, though what it eventually worked out to be was more Smith's design.

  • Hey i know this is possibly a really dumb question, but i dont know much at all about sunths and such. With the rack what kind of keyboard do you need to go with it, Does it have to be a clavia or could you just something else, maybe something a bit cheaper, or am i just way off hear with everything.:/ If someone could help steer me in the right direction that would be great.

  • very cool 4:32 in ...pure Detroit Techno ! :)

  • It does sound very close to a real analogue synth. The oscillators are more stable so there is less grittyness and it doest sound as "liquidy" but its close. Sounds more juicy than liquidy :D

  • it doesn´t sound like a real analog synth, but it it sounds great in it´s own way. i appreciate the nord lead very much! it´s a very useful synth. vst ? it´s true, there are very good ones. but the nord lead has character, sounds good, feels good and you can get really deep into it. not many plug ins can offer that. btw i think it´s easier to concentrate on sound without staring onto a screen all the time.

  • I like the sound, it's very nice.

  • I am more into analog synths, but the Nord is a solid synth which is worth buying.

  • cool video

  • I watch this video like 20 times a week lol.. I never get tired of hearing how smooth and non-digi that filter envelope res sounds

  • Sounds awesome!

You really know how to use that machine :)

  • I want one of those. lol

  • every time i watch a nord lead video i get the same feeling as when a really hot girl that you're crushing on walks by lol... i should just sell my car and get a nord wave

  • If your have this on MP3 please send me on mail

    THK u

  • Just rip the vid and turn the flv to mp3...

  • yeah but the quality will not be so good :(

  • Can you tell me what the patch settings are at about 4:10? It sounds really lush and detroity.

  • Nice pattern, but I am surprised that there is enough space under the MS-2000 for the plugs.

  • yes ms2000 is thin on the bottom front and nord have plugs very far bottom of the back side.

  • when you change pitch on the rack, can you set it to quantize pitch so it would be like a keyboard?

  • Is the other synth (above the Nord) a Korg MS-2000R ? Could you do a review/match between this two synths ? I'd like buy both, but I can only buy one of these because of a lack of money.

PS : excuse my basic english...

  • cirujano38 - Unfortunately i don't have it anymore but in sound possibilities ,you will get more form a ms2000 than a nord in my opinion ,nord have 16 poly ,korg only 4 :( if you dont mind the polyphony ,take the ms2000 ,has vocoder, phrase sequencer and efx unit ,nord is more analogue'ish but i sold it now aswell and got other stuff...

  • Yes I think I'm going to take a Korg MS-2000, for its price (less expansive than a Nord) and for its phrase sequencer, I need that for songs like "Map of The Problematique" of Muse. Maybe I'll buy a Nord later... Thanks for reply ;)

  • you could do that sound withan Vst.

if your going to buyy a synth do it because of its capabilty NOt because it sounds like somone else, even if your doing covers.

O: you know synthesis? ( at least the basics)

  • i think the nord is the one synth that can get sounds you could never get with a vst which is why i want one so badly

  • STFU. i'm guessing you don't even own a real synth!

this guy knows how to use his nord. nords are one of the few digital synths worth buying. so, again, STFU bitch!

  • the morphing is cool and all but as far as i can tell all it is is basicly assigning multiple parameters to one mod wheel

plus, it's kinda funny that you're saying it's 303ish but then saying that any vst could do that

  • Hey this guy has a problem with language so his blocked now ! No worries from now on, let's leave him and his VST synthesis :)

  • wow thats cool man!

    i love these sounds! fat!

  • I like the video. Just shows how fast you can change up a sound on a VA with direct tactile controls. Where do you get those things to rack the synths on? Better yet, what do you call them?

  • rack ears, clavia should be able to send you a set if you didn't get any with your nord, or search ebay.

  • Thank you!

  • real cool sounds

  • will someone tell me something - u get these rack synths which obviously have no piano keyboard as i can see so how do u tell the synth what notes u want it to play - do u hook it to a MIDI keyboard with MIDI or do u connnect it to a PC or what?

can someone please answer this question as i have wondered for a long time and i would really like to the know the answer

    thanks to anyone who answers

  • Yes Midi ,that's why it's up there since 1982 !

  • you hook it up midi each synth is set internally to a midi channel( make sure yoursynth sare set to diffrent numbers)likefor example ms2000 on midi cannel 1, juo106on midichannel 2..etc.. when you changethemidi channel number on your controller, you justchange it to whatever number is on the synth you want to play. (make sure the local off in yoursynths is off

  • That room looks cold

  • How do you get the nord to sit so close to the other synth? I have to give mine 1U of space above and below because of the rack ears are weird.

  • Yeah i drilled new holes in the rack actually :)

  • clavia rules ..i had a nord lead 2, now i've got an nord modular ...but with both the synths I have problems with the outputs ...crappy design ...delicious sound

  • All these synths are really cool and interesting i wonder how it makes the sounds!

  • some say the NL2 sounds grittier/chunkier than the NL2x because of the converters. anyone care to comment??? nice video. i'm in the process of buying a synth for live use and my choices are the NL2 and a Virus B/C/Classic...

  • rOby ,i have no clue about the converters ,mine sounds crunchy anyway ... They say that the later NL doesn't sound like the first ones...

  • how do you get the delay? the nord has no effects lol!

  • it goes throu the Ms2000 effects processor.

  • cool..D50..still have mine! bought new in 1989 with all the PN-D50 cards included {4 at the time} :)

  • I have one of those ms2000r and I love it! Wouldn't mind an NL2. Not at all... Got some sweet sounds.

  • That's a beautiful sounding patch; is that a preset on the NR2 or is it something you created from scratch? Has a nice space music sequenced bassline feel to it.

I just ordered the Nord Rack 2X...my first hardware synth...needless to say...this vid has made me very happy about the choice to go with the Nord!

  • its a patch i did when playing with.very easy to do nice sounds with the NL2

  • can you please say which sequencer you've used as well as which external effect?

  • Ok ,No sequencer here it's the Nord lead arpeggiator on Random . and it goes throu the ms2000 input above.

  • I'm drooling at the Nord... :D

  • Very nice

  • I love my 2x : )

  • do you suggest me buying a NL2xR? I already have Korg Triton and I'm playing mainly metal music. I would like the NL2xR to give sound for my leads and pads :)

  • it will definitly add some agressive sounds to it ! I t can sound really angry sometimes ..

  • about 450eur 300Pounds

  • i like it how much does the rack cost?

  • great sounds from that great sexmachine !

  • great little box. I just picked up the 2x keyboard version. I may keep both! thanks for posting.

  • It' just a Random Set Arpeggiator ,but sound very punchy .I love the nord lead :)

  • What are you using for a controller?

  • Nice sound and pattern.

  • good
