  • Tanner Mangum -- He may be the perfect fit at BYU after his stock blew up with a solid Elite 11 performance. Both analysts like his smarts, but think it goes beyond that.

"He's going to take a Mormon mission, so it is a great fit for him socially, religiously and as a quarterback," Farrell said.

  • Former University of Utah graduate student Jacob Fullmer, now a member of Mitt Romney's Iowa field staff, said the presidential candidate didn't mention Iowa's upcoming caucus vote during LDS Church services Sunday.

Fullmer said Romney, accompanied by his wife, Ann, and their son, Tagg, had little to say during introductions at the ward house. Tagg Romney spoke first, telling the congregation his name and that he was here for the weekend.

  • "People are surprised when I tell them I'm leaving," Mangum said. "They might assume that I'll lose the touch or come back rusty. But I worry only about what I feel in my heart."

So, in fact, this is no dilemma for Mangum. It's the fulfillment of a dream that brings perspective to his life. And just maybe, it's the secret to his success.

  • "The women who appear in Volume 1 ... were generally first-generation Latter-day Saints who experienced characteristic trials of their day, including abandonment by family or friends when they joined the church, persecution after joining, and the hardships of pioneering again and again as they moved from one location to another," the editors wrote in the preface.

  • The first book in a series dedicated to highlighting the inspirational lives of Mormon women is finally hitting bookshelves. "Women of Faith in the Latter Days," the first of seven volumes, features the biographies of women born between 1775 and 1820. Each biography was submitted by a contributor and edited by Richard E. Turley Jr. and Brittany A. Chapman of the Church History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  • As religious leaders across a wide variety of faith communities, we join together to affirm that marriage in its true definition must be protected for its own sake and for the good of society. We also recognize the grave consequences of altering this definition. One of these consequences—

  • the interference with the religious freedom of those who continue to affirm the true definition of “marriage”—warrants special attention within our faith communities and throughout society as a whole. For this reason, we come together with one voice in this letter.

  • @omiolo One voice in a time of crisis is important.

  • Another account: "In the evening, they met for the endowment. The fast was then broken by eating light wheat bread, and drinking as much wine as they saw proper. Smith knew well how to infuse the spirit which they expected to receive; so he encouraged the brethren to drink freely, telling them that the wine was consecrated, and would not make them drunk.....they began to prophecy, pronounce blessings upon their friends, and curses on their enemies. . . . " William Harris

  • @Doesthetruthmatter I want you to know that God loves you.

  • @Doesthetruthmatter "Smith knew well how to infuse the spirit which they expected to receive; so he encouraged the brethren to drink freely"

NICE quote mine! You ignore 99% of what was written and find some OBSCURE quote! One day I will need to introduce you to INTEGRITY.

  • @omiolo Quotes that support LDS beliefs are welcomed & accepted. Quotes that don't support LDS beliefs are labeled "quote mining", "fabricated" and are ridiculed & dismissed. If its the truth that matters, a look at what all witnesses to the event have said should be relevant for consideration. If it's just bolstering the institution that matters, then of course anything that detracts can be dismissed outright & not considered. And you call that integrity.

  • @Doesthetruthmatter "Quotes that don't support LDS beliefs are labeled "quote mining"

STOP your whining. The problem is that you are NOT smart enough to actually know what is going on. So you have to take that stance. You speak in GENERALITIES and peruse the ANTImormon propaganda and then think you should take you serious.

  • @omiolo Not only am I not smart enough to know what is going on, I'm NOT smart enough in caps! Yes, the old call your opponent stupid play. Devastating stuff.

Actual quotations are deemed generalities but your diatribe & failure to speak to an actual issue IS to be taken seriously? A written statement by a Book of Mormon witness who is endlessly paraded by the church in support of the BoM you now dismiss as AntiMormon propaganda. Somehow it must make sense in your world. Enjoy yourself there.

  • @Doesthetruthmatter "the old call your opponent stupid play. "

MORE ANTImormon games. I did NOT call you STUPID, I said you were NOT smart enough. I can tell you have a FLAIR for the dramatic and hyperbole. I guess that is how you become an ANTImormon!

  • Consider: “The great heavenly ‘visitation,’ which was alleged to have taken place in the temple at Kirtland, was a grand fizzle. The elders were assembled on the appointed day, which was promised would be a veritable day of Pentecost, but there was no visitation. . . . . ‘I was in my seat on that occasion, ‘and I know that the story sensationally circulated, and which is now on the records of the Utah Mormons as an actual happening, was nothing but a trumped up yarn...” David Whitmer

  • @Doesthetruthmatter Nice repeating of FABRICATED quotes. You spend your time QUOTE mining and the rest of us will spend our time learning the TRUTH!

  • @omiolo We all search for someone to love.

  • Dear teachers, you are one of the great miracles of this Church. You have a sacred trust. We love you and have confidence in you. I know that if we will search the scriptures and live so that we are worthy to have the companionship of the Holy Ghost,

  • @omiolo I agree.

  • It is only fitting that we—like the Wise Men, shepherds, and angels—take time to rejoice and celebrate that glorious first Christmas Day.

  • The immigrant woman, just months into her life in Waynesboro, came from an ugly place.

Hometown gang violence in the Mexican state of Chihuahua drove her to leave. Faith carried her.

"If we don't have faith, we have nothing," she said in Spanish to two Mormon missionaries invited into her plain but newly furnished home.

  • The roads were horrible at that time (consider the mid-50s), and it was a rough six-hour ride. The weather was cold and rainy. I remember it being a much more strenuous trip than I ever hoped for, but it was great. We finally arrived and experienced again this warm, overwhelming feeling of goodness that comes from just being close to the temple, and when you are in the House of the Lord."

  • As the program begins, as he welcomes both audience and viewers to the "Crossroads of the West, to Temple Square in Salt Lake City," he speaks some words that have been used for decades and also presents messages that are as timely as tomorrow. "I know we are touching lives. We get so many letters about how a song or a message made a difference to someone, gave someone else a reason to keep going. It adds to the resolve to do your very best."

  • Renowned Mormon artist Arnold Friberg has died at age 96, his family confirms.

The painter and illustrator, known for his heroic depiction of Book of Mormon characters and patriotic-themed works, passed away Wednesday at a Salt Lake City rehabilitation facility following hip replacement surgery. Among his most famous non-religious works is a 1975 painting of George Washington praying at Valley Forge.

  • In 2000, he was involved in the Freedman's Bank Project, a service provided by inmates at the prison to help compile what is now one of the richest databases for African-American research. A plaque on the wall at the family history center commemorates the work they performed.

  • William Thomas has been doing family history research in prison since 1996. "At the time, no one was there to teach me, so I just jumped in," he said. He eventually got his father's line back to the 1600s.

  • One of the nice things about being LDS is that our God is the same yesterday today and forever. God continues to bless His people.

  • @awolLDSasap I would say that this comment is BIZARRE but I have grown to expect that from your types. Thanks for the consistency.

  • @omiolo2 you're very welcome.

  • @awolLDSasap see, you do NOT have to be bitter and disagreeable ALL the time. A polite attitude could go a LONG way for your types.
