Also, there is a logical explanation to why you can just walk on the water. It might be just a puddle instead of water you can swim in.

I agree that the game sucks but it isn't that hard. I've managed to beat it on numerous occasions, though it took me forever the first time.
Also, you shouldn't compare Genesis graphics to N64 and PlayStation graphics. Genesis is 16-bit while PS and N64 are 32-bit and 64-bit, respectively.
