Interestingly, Phoebe had a underswing tuck release transition to the low bar just before the Olympics ( she did it at the 88 american cup, and it was really nice) bvt she took it out here at Seoul, She needed that originality to get a higher score, imagine with the stock junky routine here she got almost a 10, that originality would have moved her up in all phASES OF the competition. And for the assholes who put thumbs down on my comments, suck my ass please.

An exceedingly generous and inexplicable 9.95. The USA was fortunate to perform in the last session of the compulsories and optionals. That explains the questionably high scores given to them.
This routine was undeserving of a spot in EF. Melissa Marlowe would have been better or one of the Chinese gymnast.
The scoring in that final was ridiculous; I think every gymnast scored above 9.95!!!!!
Chill....The US compulsory scores were deserved, and evidence shows they were marked down by Eastern Bloc judges on balance beam and vault. It wouldnt have mattered, because the three leaders were so solidly ahead that no one could have broken into the medals, I mean SHIT even they gave Kersten a fucking 10 to keep her on the podium. Wake up~

9.95 was generous, probably worth a solid 9.70 or 9.80, nice crossed hands though, and not too many people were doing more original or difficult dismounts back then, a double tuck was high level.

this isnt a very well choreographed routine, although she has nice extension and form on the hechts. She needed more slater work, a sharper full turn, and a more exciting dismount. 9.95 was too high for this routine,
Nobody really did stalder work in 1988. For this quad, that was an excellent choreographed routine. Also, exciting dismounts are hard to do as the bars were set at an akward angle that quad.
Look at those perfect handstands LONG before people it really mattered. Such a simple dismount by today's standards though.

Yeah, actually quite a few gymnasts were still doing Stalder work at this time, and clear hips as well.
