Just wanted to say "Thank you!" for the two excellent films on steaming up the Märklin 16051. I'm sure they're going to help save me from making any disastrous mistakes when having a go with mine. Doesn't the machine look great!?
I've given up running it on meths. The burner that came with machine is downright dangerous. For some reason Märklin decided to fit the vapour relief tube on the wrong end of the burner.
By fitting the tube at the opposite end of the burner, instead of the handle end, the tube is located deep inside the firebox and any fumes ignite immediately. I had two fires started this way, even with the burner half-filled.
aloha from California, it was because of your great video that I went out and found one of these terrific Marklins... check out my video to see how I modified the burner set-up to run it longer... thanks again!
Found mine locally, here in Switzerland. They do appear for sale on eBay from time to time and go for about $2,000. These were 2004 reproductions of the old Märklin 4158 compound engines, which were made in about the 1930s I believe. The 2004 production run was relatively small.
The 16051 was produced by Märklin in 2004. It was a limited production run, so finding one today is quite difficult, although not impossible. The retail price in 2004 was 1,000 Euros.

It does. Especially running slow.

I now run the machine on gas.
