Engine went I believe to a Colorado tourist line and is still in storage in pieces. I attempted to buy this engine about 15 years ago from a guy in Michigan ($125K), but after hearing all the potential problems with it I backed out. Would loved to have had it for less money though, if it was to remain static. Beautiful engine nonetheless.
Too many "wasted BTU's" going out the stack with all that black smoke. Nice engine (a little "light" in tractive effort) but they RAN THE GUTS OUT OF IT and it ended up as a piece of JUNK and it hasn't run in over 20 years, though it is still in existence today.
Smoke like that would have gotten the fireman fired on a railroad years ago! Heavy smoke even with soft coal is fuel waste. They must have put oil on the fire for that much smoke. Every old railroader must have rolled their eyes seeing this come down the tracks. The coaches were stillwells, but not just any stillwells. These were air conditioned with running water in the restrooms. The seats were cloth, nice green in color. But still didn't recline. TheTexas State RR has one but it's a open car.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. A friend converted it. I think its terrible. I think all he did was run the film on a screen and video taped it. The quality is bad, it was dark, and the sound volume was way to high. I had to lighten, and adjust the contrast a lot so you can even see it. I may try to have it professionally done, but with 11 400' reels, that could be very expensive. Thanks for looking. Jackmp294
That is wonderful! Of course the Air Resources Board would run that thing right out of California but they don't know a good thing when they see, or hear, it!
Its still around from what I hear, and I think the last I heard, it was up in Michigan somewhere. It was up forsale a few years back. But I don't know if it ever got sold. Thanks for looking. Jackmp294
very nice, love the whistle. And your right, you wouldn't reconize this now, it's 3 tracks, and the road bridge at Collin's curve is close to the curve itself now, but it's still a busy place
