The problem for the IDF in 2006 was that it was overly reliant on the power of its armor while ATGM technology had created a situation where they needed better infantry support than they utilized. This isnt possible unless they want to use a lot more airpower and artillery - which in turn would result in 1000s of collateral Lebanese civilian casualties.

Israel still holds hundreds of Lebanese prisoners without charge in breach of international law and still occupies Lebanese territory (which the Syrians say is Lebanese).
