Wait, did you use the happy ending from the movie instead of the play's ending? MTI doesn't allow unauthorized changes. Did you have authorization for this?
WHAT THE HECK IS WITH THIS PLAY SEYMOURS FAT! (or atleast fatter than the movie seymour!) WHERES THE GUN AND STUFF HES SUPOSE TO TRY TO SHOOT THE PLANT AND THEN NEARLY GET SHOOT! AND ITS SUPPOSE TO BE LIKE HIS VINES SHOULD BE TRYING TO TAKE THE BUILDING DOWN!!!!!!! AND NO GURLS AS THE BUDS!!!! SEREOUSLY!!!!! they could have done ALOT better on this play. WHO AGREES!
at 2:42 its supposed to be and you got me fightin' mad not your in trouble now. we had to delete this song from our production. but a girl played as audrey II and she rocked!
@spartamixfan well i bet your play was ALOT better than this. and also there is no part saying about king con stuff!!!! and seymour is suposed to be pinned to the wall, his pants pulled down and then he runs behind the desk! and i could do this play by myself! jeez
Whoa, how did you guys do this song? This song was written specifically for the movie. Did you have some sort of edited version where they put this song in?
Why add "Mean Green Mother" if the actor providing the voice of Audrey II doesn't have the range for it? This is a full octave too low.
At any rate, as I'm sure you know by now, adding material to any theatrical contract is a legal violation and opens your school to litigation. I'm not trying to be obnoxious; I've worked for the company that licenses "Little Shop" and I'm just telling you that it's happened before. You may want to take this down before the wrong person sees it and follows up.
@acewpk i kinda get what you mean about the singing of that song. i'd rather his voice crack by just going all the way, instead of holding back. but who knows, maybe they had their reasons. as a girl, i would love to play the plant on stage, even if im not an aspiring actor or anything, lol it's just such a great character.
I'm not gonna say this is bad, but I will say I would have done a few things different. Actually, If I did do a play of Little shop of Horrors I would have made it a whole unique ending. That in spirit to the original ending of the movie...
But anyways, For mean Green mother, I would have done this:
1. In the beginning, Not have the Audrey II-ettes come out all at once, but have them comes out from the shadows, as they do the "pushing back" bit like Audreydid in the movie, different though
Jesus fucking christ WTF is this shit? "Only the people who saw the movie will be let down?" are you on fucking crack? Why did no one watch 1 full fucking run of this and say," wow that ending looks like shit lets work on it"
There are two questions here... one of legality and one of artistic morality. On the first subject there can be no debate, to add or take away entire numbers without permission from either the author or the copyright holder is illegal and could lead to fines or the withdrawal of the contract. On the second subject, well that's a bit more nebulous. I personally would love to do a production that adds in the song for several reasons.
wtf, i just finished a run of this show and yes we did the movie ending which i dont agree with and in this song seymour killled the plant but seriously there is no energy, our choreography was all partners and livley with lifts , spins and most importantley energy. we were in blakcs with masks and green braclets for leaves and the girls had a green vest on as the focus is the plant. im the last persson to cricies others as i know how much work goes into it all but the plants voice is boringwtf
No no, not a Dick. The director of this show? Which broke the law, deviated from what the writers wanted their message to be, and tampered with copywrighted work? Now that person is a dick. Changing the ending of this show negates the Entire Faustian attitude of the story' telling. You make a deal with the Devil, you pay. You don't get a happy ending. (infact based on the fact that you did the ending from the movie I question wether you all had permission for this at all)
@chaddirects Your assertion that the show was tampered with is correct but from an audience point of view, Mean Green Mother, although not in the original stage production, is, to a large extent, expected. The vast majority will only have seen the movie and if that expectation is unfulfilled, there can be a certain disappointment, if not confusion, on the part of the audience at the end of the show. These are teenagers doing it for fun, not for profit after all.
@stevemacirl Profit or no Profit is moot----Changing the Ending of the show changes the integrity of the Piece. Just because the movie was a done a certain way Most certainly does NOT make it canon. Nobody ever said anywhere that Alice in a blonde girl in a blue dress, yet because "thats how the movie did it" people seem to think she is. Seymore is not supposed to Literally get away with Murder, The show ended a certain way for a reason. Changing it because of the Movie is cowardly, at best.
@stevemacirl I accept your point, but as I didn't direct the production, I can only relay what I know of the director's motivation for the change. I wouldn't call it cowardly as, by that standard, any director of interprets a work and changes it, for whatever reason or motivation, would be classified as a coward. Many would argue that the braver route is the route that challenges, both the director and the audience. I think our discussion has strayed beyond this production though
I think I've been spoiled by Levi Stubbs' towering performance as Audrey II. This just wasn't the same... which, oddly enough, is also its greatest strength. Can't go wrong with making a performance your own, after all :)
Not for nothing but this is SUCH a violation to what you agree to do when you produce a musical. NO ONE licences the movie music. The production itself looks good but its terrible when people deviate from script.
wow it just came to me watching all these mean green mother from out space vids. i have a game not many people seem to know about that is called gast the greatest little ghost.
there is a plant just like audrey 2 in it and i should use it to make a vid.
this is pretty good. I honestly think they should have had someone with a much deeper voice to play Audrey II, since that seems like the main voice for it, especially in the movies. Just some constructive critism.
Wasn't the ironic karma that made the play SO GOOD? And wasn't it the ending change that ruined the film? Why the hell did you decide to ruin the play?
It's too bad this person only uploaded these three songs. They're good songs, but I would have liked to see more, especially Dentist and Suddenly Seymour.
I think maybe if they got a horn or two in it and the audrey 2 guy learned to put a lot more passion in it it would be better. Still, It's pretty good i guess =]
o_o......oh my god. this is pathetic compared to the movie. least they have the same words, guy who plays Seymour seems ok. but the guy who is the "Audrey 2" needs to learn form the movie...badly.
Wow, you know you're right, I never thought about it but of course the 15 year old student playing Audrey 2 should sound like Levi Stubbs. Very astute of you.
@stevemacirl at my high school they did little shop of horrors, the kid who played audrey 2 in my schools play could actually sing and sounded just like levi stubbs. this was just painful to watch,i mean really, the voices are god awful they keep screwing up the lyrics and it was choreographed horribly.
@stevemacirl After listening to this, I've noticed Audrey II's voice isn't as entertaining as I had hoped. In my opinion, it sounds more as if he's just going through the motions more than owning the part himself. Of course, I myself don't expect the person playing Audrey II's voice to sound like Levi Stubbs, but I feel he should have just had fun with the part for that song. As for koiboi, it's understandable to compare with the movie, but focus on interpretation more than comparison.
The remake movie ending was actually reshot. They did shoot and ending in black were Seymour and Audrey died. But the test audience people said it was too depressing. So rather than risk the movie flopping they reshot it a month later for 2 million additional dollars. They had a lot of complications with that movie because the cage was non existent back then. Including when rick and levi sing there first song.
WHY are all the dancing plants smiling?! They should look angry or something...to actually MAKE Seymour scared and the dance they do? This is not some cheery teenage eistedford - it's a song about taking over the world, destorying it and stuff...they needed to do more movement like they do at 3.50. THAT was ok. The rest was sort of like "Ok...we're doing this because it shows our dancing talent!"...chracterisation needs to be taken into account!
Those are some big bad open throat singers in the ensemble...keep teachin' them the wrong way to sing, and after a year or two, they won't have that problem anymore.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't like the way that seymour just sits there in the fetal position. He didn't even do anything to fight back, what y'all couldn't even give him a cap gun revolver and let him shoot that at the plant?
the octave lower thing would be just fine if it was consistent throughout the song, but they switched a few times in between. but you're right it fails to do justice to the song.
I have the soundtrack. Listen to the back up singers. WRONG LYRICS! And even so, this is what the Audrey II sings Wrong!: "Wanna save you're skin, son?" Better take a tip son!" "I'm just a Mean Green mother from outer space, and you're in trouble mad!" "Don't talk to me about old King Kong, you think he's worst, you're thinking wrong!" "I got worn style! major moves! I got the stuff and I think that grooves!" I'm just a mean green mother, a real hard kick! and you got me fighting mad!" FALIURE!!
i dont think this ending is very bad, i think it would be better if the plant was better singer and more convicing, but the show itself looks pretty good, i doing a production of this next year and i hope ours looks as good as this!
Well I'm in the show as Seymour, I like the alternative ending to the movie more where the plant doesn't die, and I'm trying to find a good example so we can do that ending and this way no good. Sorry.
Ease up dudes! The song totally works in the context of the show with the original ending - watch the alternate/original movie ending with this song here on Youtube. I hate it when Audrey/Seymour survive. It diminishes the drama/tragedy. Standing by and letting someone die is a crime. Seymour brings about his own demise because of human weakness, greed and desire. I had a real moral problem with the film. In the play, he makes the wrong decisions and loses everything. That's the point.
wow, sorry this is bad. This show is NOT a dancing kinda show, so having a bunch of random people come out dressed in green trying to look like plants doesnt work sorry
I disagree with most of the comments here; I think it was a good attempt on stage. If only the voice of Audrey II was a little better and Seymour was doing some things differently, and they included more instruments into the song. It sounded and looked overall decent, though.
ok ummm:no emotion, wtf with the dancers,no emotion, aren't you supposed to do don't feed the plants?,no emotion, did not make sense,i hate the plant,no emotion
Wow....get some people that dont suck, and what the fuck was up with "Aww shit?". I know its in the song, buts thats cause Audrey 2 is dieng. In this he just says it for no reason. And the song was played intirely with a piano. HELLO!?!? Did you even watch the movie?
Ok, the plant barely dose anything but sing, the plant girls didn't really sing too good, and seymour...all seymour dose is sit around sticking his ass up to the audience! And I agree with dgkl3, all they need was an electric guitar and bass guitar and the music would've sounded better.
TELL ME ABOUT IT! It sounds like whoever is doing the voice is putting no emotion WHATSOEVER into their acting, almost like they're not enjoying themselves
How were you able to do this? Aren't you supposed to do "Don't Feed The Plants"? or did your school just arrange this number themselves and put it in?
well, pretty much wut this tells me is u guys have a school filled with great stage crew people, but no actors, dancers, or singers. i mean the setting and stuff was good, but the back up dancers didint do so hot, Seymour didnt relle do anything, and Audrey II was too monotone and didnt relle add any character to the part......... damn that was longer than i thot
This is the first time I've seen "Mean Green Mother From Outer Space" on a stage. And apparently this is the version when Audrey and Seymour live. Interesting...I like it. I'm guessing the girls in green are the vines in the 1986 version. I guess that's one way to do it.
Aw geez, they used the happy ending for this? Though it was nice to feature the song in an off-broadway production, just make sure WB doesn't find out.
umm it's sue darling, if WB was going to "sew his ass" they would need needle and thread as opposed to a legal team to do it.
as for the song, I actually like it and am very surprised to see it in the stage version, it's just too bad that your audrey II can't sing it properly :-/

I agree. I could do better by myself playing EVERYBODY! (without the music) Also, WRONG LYRICS MAN! YOU'RE CRUCIFING THE NAME OF LEVI STUBBS!
XReaperBlade 2 years ago
Stubbs actually sang these different lyrics on the soundtrack.
captainrice13 2 years ago
I have the soundtrack. Listen to the back up singers. WRONG LYRICS! And even so, this is what the Audrey II sings Wrong!: "Wanna save you're skin, son?" Better take a tip son!" "I'm just a Mean Green mother from outer space, and you're in trouble mad!" "Don't talk to me about old King Kong, you think he's worst, you're thinking wrong!" "I got worn style! major moves! I got the stuff and I think that grooves!" I'm just a mean green mother, a real hard kick! and you got me fighting mad!" FALIURE!!
XReaperBlade 2 years ago
they did the "happy" movie ending lol, but we are doing the "sad" ending
kunami13sora 2 years ago
I think that it would be neat to see Mean Green Mother incorperated with the stage ending and the singers were actually good.
Solachinx 3 years ago 3
set props and costumes are awsome! but the music sucks
AbbyStern413 3 years ago 5
the puppeter doesn't sing, or isn't meant to, you have 2 seperate people performing!
littlecookchocolate 3 years ago
i fink ur all being mean i wud like to see u try to operate the plant and sing!
00LeopoldBloom00 3 years ago
i agree, i did that and it turned out great!
kunami13sora 2 years ago
The singers are terrible, the pupppeter and voice coordination need to be worked on and why cant seymour move about more often?
littlecookchocolate 3 years ago 2
aint a better ending good if seymore uses a genade lancher then BOOM if that dosent count if evil plants destroy america
Tonytambe 3 years ago
i thought it was ok, i acctually think the orchestration let it down, not the actual performers.
FlyingScotsgirl 3 years ago
the singer isnt very good
amybrun 3 years ago
mehh. He tried.
38DODGE 3 years ago
i dont think this ending is very bad, i think it would be better if the plant was better singer and more convicing, but the show itself looks pretty good, i doing a production of this next year and i hope ours looks as good as this!
jsellmachine 3 years ago
this song wasn't written for the stage show, and every time i see people try and do it on stage, it just doesn't work.
jazzmantrey 3 years ago
Pretty sad...and bad.
epic507 3 years ago
It's not awful...maybe Seymour could do more though instead of just curling up into a ball often.
greengreen31 3 years ago
just awful...
jofarrand 3 years ago
and your qualification to judge is... what, exactly?
stevemacirl 3 years ago
Well I'm in the show as Seymour, I like the alternative ending to the movie more where the plant doesn't die, and I'm trying to find a good example so we can do that ending and this way no good. Sorry.
o0mofo0o 3 years ago
wat this performance needed was more of a jazz organ piano and audrey II gotta put SOME soul in his voice. then it would've been perfect
TheSoch99 3 years ago
This has got to be the most emotionless audrey II I have ever heard

I love this song.
VideoGuy18 3 years ago
It's like "Mean Green Mother" in ragtime version... I like it. Oh you guys used the soundtrack version of it. Nice
itsokimouttamymind 3 years ago
However...the Twoey here is rather flat...I can imitate it without effort ._0
And the Seymour seems to have trouble pronouncing his words...
itsokimouttamymind 3 years ago
God, people! Would you not give the performers a brake?! They did their best and they weren't that bad!
madcowjemz 3 years ago
Break, not brake...
madcowjemz 3 years ago
seymour cant act and neither can the voice of the plant
bumbledown08 3 years ago 3
ya the movies Audrey2 is 100x's better.
odin557 3 years ago 5
this version sucks,
the movie one is much better.
huipuipui 3 years ago
you said it.
odin557 3 years ago
Ease up dudes! The song totally works in the context of the show with the original ending - watch the alternate/original movie ending with this song here on Youtube. I hate it when Audrey/Seymour survive. It diminishes the drama/tragedy. Standing by and letting someone die is a crime. Seymour brings about his own demise because of human weakness, greed and desire. I had a real moral problem with the film. In the play, he makes the wrong decisions and loses everything. That's the point.
FUNCHOMCLALA 3 years ago
that's interesting you used a happy ending similar to the movie.
We were thinking of doing
this at first too.
I much rather Audrey and Seymour surviving.
Do they give this option now or did you copy straight from the movie?
muppetspuppets 3 years ago 5
5 things about this video
1.If your gonna use the song in the play atleast keep the original lyrics
2.self elpanitory"Don't you thearten me son, You got alotta gaw" what the heck is gaw! it's gold
3. what the heck do the dancing green people do. what r they
4.the plant talking about hurting him but he's not doing anything and seymour's hides when nothings going on
5.the plant won't let you just put a bomb down it's throat.very original the bomb didn't kill him, he just heard himself singing
shenron204 3 years ago
#2... eh, it's actually 'gall'. If you are going to criticise, at least get your facts right!
stevemacirl 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Well it too hard to understand what he's singing
shenron204 3 years ago
to me this version of audry2 helped me figuer out some lyrics for the movie
bryboy321 3 years ago
the green girls are the pods that audry2 gets naer the end of the movie
bryboy321 3 years ago
Um No offense but is the guy doing the voice of Audrey 2 tone deaf? He doesn't sound like the plant and can't sing
shenron204 3 years ago 3
I love the song but this Audrey II does not have that much soul when he is singing
Matkaizer07 3 years ago 3
Yeah, very uninspired and boring.
bolt777 3 years ago 2
OMG! Yeesh, I had to turn this off. What the frig? Did the director talk to you about this? There's no emotion with the dancers nor with Audrey II.
familyguyluver689 3 years ago 2
wow, sorry this is bad. This show is NOT a dancing kinda show, so having a bunch of random people come out dressed in green trying to look like plants doesnt work sorry
degeorgetitanic 3 years ago
I hate it when people use this song.
theatrenerd10 3 years ago
Too many plants
legomovieinc 3 years ago 3
the movie does not work at all here...
the idea of a bunch of dancing plant people makes me uneasy...
Oziad 3 years ago 3
Our school did this just today. They did great, I wish they would upload it on YouTube but I doubt they will.
nocturnshado 3 years ago 2
good plant, okay dancing, bad vocals, nice idea for an ending, but stick to the original
cbgbs93 3 years ago
I disagree with most of the comments here; I think it was a good attempt on stage. If only the voice of Audrey II was a little better and Seymour was doing some things differently, and they included more instruments into the song. It sounded and looked overall decent, though.
TwinNarutoRPG 3 years ago 2
ok ummm:no emotion, wtf with the dancers,no emotion, aren't you supposed to do don't feed the plants?,no emotion, did not make sense,i hate the plant,no emotion
ConcorX 3 years ago
Interesting attempt. However, this song was written SPECIFICALLY for the MOVIE. and also, only ONE person can sing this song. LONG LIVE LEVI STUBBS!
FieryDinoPirahna3294 3 years ago
I love the puppet it's so realistic!
MANEATINGWREATH 4 years ago
Its meant to be a rock and roll song with an electric guitar and base. 1/5, and thats only because the person playing Audrey 2 was somewhat good.
Orochiha 4 years ago 6
Wow....get some people that dont suck, and what the fuck was up with "Aww shit?". I know its in the song, buts thats cause Audrey 2 is dieng. In this he just says it for no reason. And the song was played intirely with a piano. HELLO!?!? Did you even watch the movie?
Orochiha 4 years ago 2
Ok, the plant barely dose anything but sing, the plant girls didn't really sing too good, and seymour...all seymour dose is sit around sticking his ass up to the audience! And I agree with dgkl3, all they need was an electric guitar and bass guitar and the music would've sounded better.
MrFigi 4 years ago
All they would of needed was a electrick and bass guitar and it would have sounded better
dgkl3 4 years ago
GOD THIS SUCKS
zetsuTYTY 4 years ago 7
uh, the plant's voice isnt that great in this song
Oziad 4 years ago 6
TELL ME ABOUT IT! It sounds like whoever is doing the voice is putting no emotion WHATSOEVER into their acting, almost like they're not enjoying themselves
AndooPandoo 3 years ago 4
This song wasn't made for the stage better luck next time.
MANEATINGWREATH 4 years ago 2
How were you able to do this? Aren't you supposed to do "Don't Feed The Plants"? or did your school just arrange this number themselves and put it in?
Flashkidgotsuspended 4 years ago
well, pretty much wut this tells me is u guys have a school filled with great stage crew people, but no actors, dancers, or singers. i mean the setting and stuff was good, but the back up dancers didint do so hot, Seymour didnt relle do anything, and Audrey II was too monotone and didnt relle add any character to the part......... damn that was longer than i thot
Skablam0793 4 years ago 2
BOO!!!! the true ending is better
dantvman 4 years ago
uhhhhh...... it was ...ok?

The actors sometimes doesn't seem to know what they're doing, I think the play could need a little workover.

This is the first time I've seen "Mean Green Mother From Outer Space" on a stage. And apparently this is the version when Audrey and Seymour live. Interesting...I like it. I'm guessing the girls in green are the vines in the 1986 version. I guess that's one way to do it.
lightening816 4 years ago
Aw geez, they used the happy ending for this? Though it was nice to feature the song in an off-broadway production, just make sure WB doesn't find out.
noqa 4 years ago
oh, and the little green unitard clad chrous TOTALLY ruins this btw.
mdpr3 4 years ago
Better hope that Wanner Brothers doesn't see this cause they will sew you ASS!
Romtf 4 years ago
umm it's sue darling, if WB was going to "sew his ass" they would need needle and thread as opposed to a legal team to do it.
as for the song, I actually like it and am very surprised to see it in the stage version, it's just too bad that your audrey II can't sing it properly :-/
mdpr3 4 years ago
Not if they bought rights.
