I was stationed in Nellingen Baracks back in the mid 80's, and spent a lot of time in Esslingen. I absolutely love the place, and miss it...will get back there one of these days
Ah cool! I'm spending a week in Munich (München) for a trip with my school's German program in December 2010! (We get to visit Schloss Neuschwanstein!) I hope it snows because we never ever get snow here in Texas, but my German teacher says that the snowing season doesn't happen until around February. I hope we get lucky and get some snow!
@JayBellBooks Looks like a nice little town.Do you see very many foreign tourists here? I like finding the more off the beaten track places, that the more "local" (European) tourists go to rather than folks from the States or Japan flock to. I have a screen saver of Esslingens beautiful two spire church and would love to see the place in person some time. Alles Gute.
Kind of? There's a little artsy club that had a gay night last year, and there was a week of gay films at a small theater. I'll see gay couples walking around on rare occasions too.
Too bad that is going to be a muslim state by 2030-50. When Carlos Magnum stopped the mouros in the Pirineus at 741, and the Turks were stopped at Vienna gates in Sep 11 1683, we the westerners knew what was worth fighting for. Now comes Sharia Law :(
It's not me who says it, it's the eurostat and Germany census office. You see one generation equals a period of 25 years. To one generation replicate itself in equal number so that in 25 years there will be the same working as of today, a fertility rate of 2.11 children per woman is required. Germany's around 1.3. No civilization reversed from this number. So Germany imports lots of work force from muslim countries. And accordingly, 79% of them wish to change laws to live under the Sharia.
@JayBellBooks I met my wife in the Orsay store in Esslingen. She worked in Orsay. She now lives with me in Canada. I love Esslingen. We use to go to the Gasthause in the large castle. Do you ever see any sprinters with the logo Boos Courier drive through the stadtmit strasse?
Danke.
I find it hilariously funny that the spellchecker in Firefox didn't recognize any of the above text. Ach, liebes Feuerfuechschen.
Ich war neulich in Tübingen. Eine sehr schöne Stadt! Esslingen ist nicht so weit von da. Ich konnte vorstellen da zu wohnen, aber ich bin voll zufrieden mit Leben in Esslingen.
Your German seems better than mine which makes me jealous. I need to practice more! =)
Frankly, I need, too, to practice more. I've found that I'm having a tough time understanding rapidly spoken German the way I used to when I was living there. I just need to get back to Germany. I think my boyfriend has designs to travel to Europe sometime in the nearish future, but we'll see.
Wonderful vid, really scenic and a beautiful place, i am really jelous right now, wish i lived somewhere that beautiful! Great summery song as well, really fitted. Thanx :-) XX
It looks so beautiful there. I really wouldn't mind moving to someplace like that save for two small detail: I don't speak German and I have no idea how I'd support myself once I got there.
Ah, Europe - how I miss thee! (I lived in Paris for a month or so, not anything like Esslingen, really, but the overall 'feel' of Europe is still somehow there) :)

You're going to love Munich. It's a gorgeous city. It's not too far away from Esslingen either. I'll be sure to wish you up some snow. =)

@karkamp13
there is a quite active gay community in stuttgart itself, which is about 20km away and easy accesible through S-Bahn and normal trains.

Are you saying Germany will be a Muslim state in the future? I didn't really understand this comment.

No gay man should have German beavers in his video. Still, good effort over all.

LOL I promise you that's the closest I'll ever get to any beaver.
