eric buell is still building the motor cycle now it is 1190 rr 187 hp rw I think but I belive it is track only, but I heard he is going to do a few street models. Just a note these are faster than the bikes that one the AMA daytona sieres the first year they came out. just sayin.
i made my own from a 90 degree elbow and a streetrod muffler.
it is so simple i had to try it,and it is way better than the jardine was. i did not like the idea of the stock can just have exhaust dumped into a big tube with a pipe welded in for the exit.mine is directed all the way and sounds good and has great torque.
How hard was that to gut out? And I hope to God someone starts to build Buell again maybe when the econ picks up. -sigh- one can wish i guess. nice sounds good
Nice Bike Nice Note, Thinking about getting once my self, and to the peps below AMA was a joke. I agree, but these bikes are not meant to compete against the "Straight Line Hero's" R1 geez they can't even beat an R6, there all about fun and noize lol
just so u know the bike in this video is not the same one they used in AMA, they used the 1125R which can outrun an R6 with ease and it can walk on an R1.
so much hate goin around. we all ride a certain bike for different reasons. i would never buy an R1 but it doesnt mean i dont love those bikes. i get smoked draggin jap bikes all the time. i dont get mad, i still love my bike. love what you like to ride and give respect to other riders. i ride with ducs and jap bikes all the time in canyon runs, its just as fun and sometimes faster, but i dont care, just enjoy the ride, if your not, you should stop riding.
ohh by all means misternippster I like your bike alot I think it sounds great. I was just referring to 7italiaaaaaa. That's one thing I cant stand about some owners they have small peckers and feel the have to be faster, flashier, or can pop a damn wheelie down the road. Buells are good wholesome american fun... No Jap bike is gonna give you bark like that. I just cant stand when people compare apples to oranges. I love my r1 but I feel it is like an asshole nowadays. Everyone has one.
ok slow as fuck, thats y Buell beat all other competition in AMA this year and won the title, and i mean everyone from Honda to Ducati they all fucking lost to Buell so live with it asshole
you stupid fucks need to look at the stats of a 01 buell most are around 90 horse.. highly modified isnt a stage 1 up grade and if it is to you get a better fucking job homo's..
You're an idiot. You really are. How have I not "backed up" what I said? I flat out told you what I had to do...and it was only a few hundred bucks, a couple days work, and I had the same numbers. It seems from your posts you don't know what the fuck you're talking about...and the only thing I've seen from you is bullshit and name calling, so...until YOU back something YOU say up....fuck off retard.
Alright, here are my pointers for a wheelie for you, if you havent already mastered it. First check the compression of your rear springs, and tighten it down, i think i am on 7 for myself. Then get to 2nd gear at 4000-4500rpm's which should be 45mph,... and then barely pull in on the clutch and release it,.. and give it a little gas at the same time,.. the front wheel will come up fast so be careful,... but then you can ride it out once you have become comfortable with the balance point,...
just wondering is this your stock ECM, and TPS settings, or do you have the race ECM? leaving in your valve would make it ok not to change your ECM right???
ecm was stock at the time but now is the race ecm. tps settings didnt change nor do you need to adapt for this mod. leaving the valve wont chnge anything, you just zip tie the cable that adjusts the valve off to the side. the actual electronics that adjust the cable still operate but you just dont need to attach it to the muffler, hope that makes sense.
so did you ride it before you changed your ECM and did it run bad, and/or did it through a code? cuz im thinking about just doing it and getting the ecm in a few weeks... should i wait and do them at the same time or did it matter???
the ecm was stock for about 4 months, race ecm was just recently put in. no codes cuz the muffler does not effect anything electronic. it ran almost the same just louder. id saay do it, you wont regret it, unless you like a quiet buell.
ran beautiful after ecm and k&n. torque curve felt just like stock but a bit more grunt throunghout the whole rpm. yes its worth it. still havent reset the tpms (you will lose the setting when you disconnect the ecm) but it doesnt matter, i actually like the kick of the unset tpms. its more fun. ill set it when i get time though.
The ECM adjusts the entire map to suit atmospheric conditions...not intake and exhaust mods. That requires remapping or a race ECM if it's a compatible pipe.
What it does is called remapping...as you're adjusting the fuel map of the stock ECM. I've gutted a muffler for a friend. You can use the stock map if you don't mind a midrange lean spot and the corresponding flat spot in the power band. Those who gave me negatives don't know how it works. The ECM adjust the map by use of what is called a correction factor. It adjusts the entire map up and down in closed loop, and only by a limited degree within the parameters factored-in by the factory.
Most non-trained enthusiasts will do more bad than good tuning with ECM Spy by feel...especially if they think gutting their muffler doesn't affect anything...same as all the folks who who've been screwing up their carbs before fuel injection.
a pipe does nothing more than MUFFLE exhaust noise. fibreglass, chambers or baffles in a pipe mainly serve the purpose to quiet down exhaust pulses. yes some backpressure is lost, but not so wild that a stock ecm cant compensate for. most exhaust mods will barely even show an increase in hp or torque so why would you need to "TUNE" your ecm. my buell runs TITS with my almost-free-pipe and stock ecm.
Even stock there's a lot of room for improvement. I guess you've gotta ride a well tuned XB to know what you're missing. Exhaust tuning is a science in and of itself. The factory has the EPA to deal with in terms of design and fueling and thus is compromised. The dyno may only show a few HP gained, but the throttle response and midrange will have a huge improvement that can't be quantified by numbers alone. If you're good with how it runs, so be it. I just don't like settling for that.
do you notice any drop in power? I mean, it sounds unbelieveable...best one i've heard on here but in some bikes the back pressure is needed to maintain the power. You think it increased horsepower and torque??
nothing major that you can feel. it does "feel" slower cuz you hear a lot more VROOM but your only cruising. this bike still pulls almost the same, but with a lil improved top end. also V-twins arent that sensitive to backpressure. WORTH EVERY PENNY for the sound.
i recently had my harley dealer install my DnDslip on race ecm and KnN high performance air filter on my 06 city x and its incredible..more tourqe low and mid and no need to downshift from fifth..sounds second to none.NOT knocking you your bike sounds greatDnD pipe 590.00 ecm 279.00 well worth it
i love the dnd sound. i have a xb12s with a jardine can, race ecm, and k&n. oh the gains are nice but you know any buell has more than enough power, i was lookin for a unique sound with the hackpipe. it being almost free to do was a good bonus too.
Sounds SICK!! I'm gonna do the same thing. Did you do the same thing that pumatsi did in his "how to" video. Did you cut the exhaust tip off? Did you cut the pipe in three sections like he did? Need some more info before I hack mine up.
no, the exhast tip was painted black, didnt want it like that, but it looks better. yupp i got inspiration from pumatsi's vid. only difference was i didnt put any baffles and i left my interactive valve in. i did it the lazyman's way. about 2-3 hours of actual work.
not much, a little less low end...tiny, but then it improves top end about the same amount. but i did it JUST for sound anyways. if your looking for serious horsepower gains, you gotta pay to play son! im cheap and just wanted noise.
no baffles, i was planning to but i got lazy to cut them and it was getting late @ work so i just welded it up. i beleive if i did put the baffles in it would have smoothed out the pulses of the sound and i didnt really want that.
they are some arlen ness chopper mirrors that had adapters to fit into a buell. i got it on ebay for about 50 bucks. it was chrome, i just painted it black.
It's a SPORTSTER motor...when you put pipes on it like that it sounds like a SPORTSTER. lol...alot of people talk crap about Harleys...but then say Buells are cool...I'll never understand it. It's a Sportster Evolution motor with SLIGHT modifications.
Highly modified? My stock '98 1200C was 73HP on it's first dyno run. Headwork, pistons, cams, ignition, and rejet and I'm now at 101. It only costs a few hundred bucks to get the same numbers from a Sportster. Most of the modification is in the heads, which are re-worked 883's (oversized valves and the chambers are reworked). They're not that different at all. Higher performance, yes, HIGHLY modified? Not really. You can get the same numbers easily for next to nothing.
My point being that an 88" Sporty motor is HIGHLY modified...a 90" Sporty motor is HIGHLY modified....but a 1203 with basic headwork and new guts....is not.
I lack the will power to make an intelligent response to that statement... But to please you... Highly modified is a VERY open term with a huge range for variables.... Highly modified to one person might be only slightly to another. "moded" ??? nice attempt at being a smart ass but seems you should get a dictionary next time.
Nice...no real argument....just a quick, brainless, rage-filled response since you have nothing to back it up yourself. Whatever...you're a tool and obviously know jack shit about what you're talking about.
all i did was disconnect the cable and nothing more. when you open up the muffler you wil know what am talking about. there are two pipes on the inlet a big one and a small one. the interective flap is on the small one. it looked like too much work to cut it out and it might have lost too much backpressure, so i left it in. i think it was wise to leave it in.
no i didnt adjust anything. we were going to set the tps but the pipe almosthd no effect othe throttle response. it just gave it a little better mid-top end. so i did nothing but hack my pipe up. it was worth it.
all you need is a hacksaw and/or die grinder to cut the can open and then a hammer and vise grips/pliers to pull the pipes out, then weld it up. if you dont have a welder, a muffler shop would prolly charge around 30 bucks to weld it up.
its just basically cutting the front end and rear end of the pipe, prying the 3 internal tubes out of the muffler and the welding the ends back on. performance wise (xb9) it smoothed out the power delivery, didnt really do much differnce low end. mid range a little less torque but after 4k it feels like it can breathe. the benefits outway the bad. and i think it sounds better than my jardine on my xb12 and the buell reace pipe
If you would post another video maybe of the bike being ridden or run outside of the shop that would be great as I am seriously considering taking this route. Thanks a bunch!

its just basically cutting the front end and rear end of the pipe, prying the 3 internal tubes out of the muffler and the welding the ends back on. performance wise (xb9) it smoothed out the power delivery, didnt really do much differnce low end. mid range a little less torque but after 4k it feels like it can breathe. the benefits outway the bad. and i think it sounds better than my jardine on my xb12 and the buell reace pipe

If you would post another video maybe of the bike being ridden or run outside of the shop that would be great as I am seriously considering taking this route. Thanks a bunch!

What all is involved in gutting your pipe? are there any performance changes for better or worse?
