  • what year was this video recorded? lke in 2004 or something?

  • nice getup buddy!

  • love thomas, and love drums, but do you know if there's a way to get this track, or the whole rewind that cd with no drums on it? i like the chill feel in some of the songs, like this one, and feel they don't need/need much smoother or quieter percussion

  • Sweet

  • Died and woke up in heaven and this was playing. Salvation! Just amazing.

  • Wow! I came home Friday evening. I was checking out youtube, and I saw Christian Scott. I thought he was Jean Pierre, the trumpet player with Marcus Miller. I saw where he had won some Emmy awards, etc. So, I searched youtube and found this video. This song is soo sweet. I've heard it on radio before, but I thought it was Chris Botti. Not! Good stuff. I am going to DL this to my ipod. Nice change from listening to Kind of Blue and Tutu stuff over and over. I will DL Rewind cd later.

  • wheres the album version?

  • THIS IS MELLOW.. LOVIN THE VIBE OF THE MISICIANSHIP IN THIS GROOVE..

  • i gotta try and play this

  • thomas is a well rounded drummer

  • kingkarolus222:

I do see what you're saying, however I'd have to say that with today's day in age... this is whats hot. You can never forget every legend that's been in all the era's of jazz, but this is christian scott's style and he does it well. Its not enjoying the fact that he's shredding a be bop chart at 210 bpm; It's enjoying the subtlety of the band and christian scott's voice through a trumpet.

  • this song is so nasty.... amazing

  • @KingKarolus222 are you a musician?

  • @KingKarolus222 have you even heard his new album or seen him live? he doesnt sound like this at all anymore

  • i've got this song on "a new generation goes back to cool".

  • Thomas wearing a shirt? Whoa.

    lol, jk

  • @Santi2c why the fuck u listening to it then? why don't you stop dissecting the shit, just shut the fuck up, and just listen!

  • The time feels SO good...I keep coming back to it again and again

  • Jazz at it's finest......gotta love that Christian sound Pridgen banging beat. Amazing!!!!!

  • inspiring!

  • it's great to hear Pridgen make use of his "softer" side...as someone who doesn't listen to too much of his stuff, it's a great change of pace.

    Christian Scott amazing as always!

  • nicely said.

  • oh!!!! and there is another video with christian scott and thomas bt its not on youtube. one needs to google it and i think its on the third page of results. its a little more upbeat of a song but cool none the less.

  • yeah, i found vids of "rewind that" and "say it", both on the same album. thanks!

  • forsure man!

  • i enjoy this video. its the lesser known side of pridgen's drumming(to the fan that is). real peaceful song.

  • @zachrhea3 yeah dude listen to bedlam in goiath. its my favorite volta album. thomas will be one of your favorite drummers after you listen to the album.

  • sick sick sick & sweet sweet sweet

  • A little boring for me. Too much church in it. Has some potential though. And I really don't see why everyone makes such a big deal about Thomas Prigden. Yeah, he's good but I haven't seen him do anything yet that hasn't been done already.

  • Dude, just listen to The Mars Volta and you'll hear shit that hasn't been done before. Also check out the 2008 Modern Drummer Festival....Amazing

  • That's what I'm saying. I've listened to all of that. He's not special. He's just fast and his hair flaps around while he plays. I don't hear anything that unique about him. He's got chops but he just doesn't have a real recognizable sound and what's the point in playing if you sound like everyone else. I dunno, it may just be me. Also, I think if you're gonna play this style, just stop, because there is nothing you can do as long as Chris Dave is around.

  • Your straight jealous dude....

Thomas' sound is EXTREMELY recognizable and distinct.

You don't know what the hell your talking about

  • Well there ya go. Just glad to hear that I'm straight. Maybe, one of these days I'll be enlightened like you.

  • Thats good. Although I think that at your intellect, that goal is nearly impossible

  • lol thats the dumbest shit i've heard in a long time. should everyone else have stopped playing because charlie parker was around?

  • I'll give ya that one Spencer.

  • Are you kidding? Pridgen with an undistinct sound? That rapid fire single kick? The awesome sauce use of just snare and high hat bass drum? You can tell a musician is great when they have a distinct sound. You should listen to more of his recordings so you can get an idea for that "Pridgen" sound.

  • first of he grooves sooo well on this track. secondly why can't you be more positive? what good will come from demeaning his talent?

  • I never demeaned his talent. I clearly said "he has chops" and "he's good", but I think that people are making him out to be a lot better than he really is. I like listening to unattainable sounds. Stuff that is unique to the player. He just sounds to me like every other jazz/gospel drummer. Which is cool and all, but not my cup of tea. I find it a little boring. It's all personal preference. Get over the fact that someone made a comment about something you like. It will be OK.

  • "Unattainable sounds"... first of that makes absolutely no sense... how can you listen to something that is "unattainable". Secondly he is extremely creative, and if you have ears you should be able to tell. Listen to any of his videos and your most likely not going to hear him copying Brian Blade, Matt Wilson, Jeff Ballard, or any of the other great modern drummers. I'm not saying he's the best drummer of the century, but to call him uncreative is flat out wrong.

  • @GuitarCriti01 aggred

  • @AfroDrumChild i think you mean "agreed"

  • @zachrhea3, Have you ever listened to The Bedlam in Goliath!?

  • @pecKrotica No please direct me in how to do so.

  • It's an album by The Mars Volta that Pridgen drums on. If you listen to that album all the way through then you'll know he's not like every other gospel/jazz drummer.

  • @pecKrotica I dunno if I can fish through all of the Mars Volta lameness to try and listen to the drums. All my friends dig them though so maybe I'll give it a listen next time I'm around someone who has it. Thanks.

  • This is nice. Great way to start off or end a peaceful day.

  • Reminds me of Denzel Washington in 'Mo Better Blues'

  • let it roll, keep it comin!

  • Cool to see Pridgen hangin back kinda...like it

  • I don't know what the hell "wes" is talkin about, but I very well may be the blackest person you'll ever see; and i LOOOOOVVVE jazz. Christian gives jazz a feeling of rejuvenation as well. Rewind That is my favorite album of his. It's so raw! Keep it up!

  • I'm lovin christian scott these days. So smooth, all about the pocket. He reminds me of my boy a wall, great phrasing.

  • All doubters should check the album or CD first.

  • wow this is the reason we love jazz cause its smooth and calm u must be a kid cause a fully mature person would know good music when they hear it

  • great sounding drum kit...it always helps to have a kit that "can play itself" it makes you sound even better, not that Pridgen needs it or anything XD

  • Is it just me, or is the bassist out of tune almost every time he plays that lick with the double stop. On the album it sounds perfect, and the song is brilliant, but it sounds so bad in this video. Maybe it's the camera

  • naw your right its off but I'm guessing that its an artist thing lol

  • The smooth balance of relaxation and funk is rare in music these days, so I suggest you check this album out. It is unlike anything out there - I'm sure of it.

  • did he play with christian scott for a whole album or is this just featuring him? reply back to me. I want to get more stuff with Thomas Pridgen on it

  • Thomas Plays on the whole album.

  • he's on all of 'rewind that'

  • he reminds me of young Miles

  • this is so soulful

  • This is very lazy and relaxing grove.

  • that beginning drum beat reminds me of Erykah Badu's On & On

  • he says chris dave is one of his biggest influences i heard that too

  • this track is off the hook and Pridgen is mad : )

  • My God! The pocket! It's.... so... deeeeeeeeeppp...

  • oh yeah

  • smooooooooooth!

  • I'm seeing Christian this Saturday. Too bad Thomas isn't joining him. But of course I've seen Thomas with the Mars Volta so I guess it's all good :)

  • jamire williams is also brilliant =)

  • He's a beast! Just pure energy

  • playing jazz and gospel lets him be able to play like he does in the volta

  • wow, he's drumming with his shirt on for once, lol

  • You beat me to the punch. I was going to say the same thing. LOL!!!

  • dang its a shame dat no one seems to know that hes first a jazz gospel drummer...thats what he does and he applys that with alot of energy to mars volta

  • Its good to see that Thomas is a versatile drummer. But his drumming in The Mars Volta is when he's at the top of his game. Cedric and Omar really brought out the demon in him (in a good way).

  • actually you should read more.. thomas brought out the demon in omar. which is almost a quote verbatim from omar in a mag i read.

  • thats interesting. i could see how that could work. but nonetheless, adding him to the group changed and progressed their sound drastically. i love it. Christian scott is a bad ass too

  • first album i've bought in months.

  • the guitar player looks like morrisey :P

  • Yeah Thomas! Yeah...subtle and groove...first time I've heard him play like this!

  • It's indeed very refreshing to see him not "just" sheding around. :)

And it shows that hes good at both grooving and sheding.

    He's dangerous. :)

  • Truest. :)

  • yea definetly i've been wanting to see this for a while. 2:30-2:34 is really good.

  • i got an idea ... if u think thomas is so awesome ... by this cd and support him as a musician ... just a thought ...

  • scott has such a nice tone, and you gotta luv pridgen...

  • Someone needs to make a torrent of this CD i ephpod'd it from my friend but it didnt work AHHH i need it so bad thomas pridgen is the SHIT

  • yo i got this album from itunes get it from there homie...rewind that

  • nice

  • Video Incrível, muito boa dinâmica, entre eles, e arranjos ótimos...Adorei...

    Thomas só no groove...

  • what cd is this on

  • Rewind that

  • ya i saw that after but thanks anyways

  • this is truly one of the very few videos that does thomas pridgen justice. great vid.

  • this proves everyone who ever said Thomas can't play a solid groove wrong. great video!

  • puro groove

  • you have the best vids man thanks

  • this hasnt been here for a minute thanks for adding it
