  • Why the illegal riding on the pavement when there are bicycle lanes? And more important, when pedestrians are making an attempt to cross over (even not on an official pedestrian crossing) you have make way for them. This Dutch traffic rule is to protect the vulnerable pedestrian in traffic. The fact that you seldom see a cyclist do it in A'dam, is no excuse.

  • @jhcfight Because my bicycle can travel safely and in control at both pedestrian and bicycle speeds. In Amsterdam, if you are not riding a bicycle safely you will be squashed, period. If you pass a pedestrian on a bicycle and are not "right" you will be jabbed with an elbow. Thats why I love Amsterdam. As long as I rode near pedestrains at pedestrian speed, it's ok. Once a man punched me for being too close. what could I do, he just wanted to punch someone. :-)

  • when i go to the city

  • thats why i only cycle when i go to the mall i always go with public transport and walk

  • @Thelittlestarful You may like to walk or ride the trolley....thats Ok. But when I am ANYWHERE in N. Europe, especially The Netherlands, germany and Switzerland, if I do not have a bicycle, i am wasting my time and space. I am not afraid of getting slammed down by one of those huge Dutch bicycles. Me and my nibble Chinese bicycle do OK on those streets :-)

  • heey that's my neighbour xD

  • 4:29 my sister's in that book about down syndrome :)

  • in the beginning you say; '34 seconds till I can go.. That's too long. Why should I wait?' That's very simple. There was a police car across the street XD Otherwise; GO AHEAD!!

  • @jellomarshmello Thats good eyes! I didn't notice that. Lol, I wouldn't have jumped out in traffic, though I saw many who, rightfully, crossed a red light because it was totally safe. I miss the Netherlands!

  • @jellomarshmello Ha ha - I was just joking. Obviously a busy intersection. And yes, the police in AMsterdam are fair, and if I would have crossed the police would have been right to stop and fine me.

  • ahhaha typical how foreigners ride their bike here. Scared to hit someone and to get hit. Don't worry just keep going.

  • It's a big deal for me, because I live in Seattle and bicycle is my primary transportation, Being on MY bicycle in Amsterdam is such a wonderful feeling.

  • @mariojragucci2 Don't have to much fear ;) Mostly when you collide, or almost collide with someone, you apologize, look for damage, and when damage is little, you just continue biking ;)

But please... don't bike so much on the pavements... Even in Amsterdam you will get some people angry or annoyed with that.

  • @weeardguy Thanks...I miss riding in Amsterdam so much. You know that. Here in America, if you ride a bicycle near pedestrians they attempt to strike you or they flinch way too much.
