  • I wonder what they guy who decided to divorce JK is thinking right now...

  • @camilok7: What the hell was i thinking... i'm broke and im ex wife is richer than Opera and the Queen of England herself... why aren't i smart?

  • Too bad YATES ruined the whole series and they let him do it.

  • It(He,She) makes me remember(remind) this story of the Caperucita ROja (Rowling) speaking to him(her) to the Fierce Wolf (The decrepit old men of Harvard and his(her, your) perverse children) commenting on him " Grandmother what so big Teeth you have? " And The fierce Wolf answers " to eat up (the world) better ".

  • She's so right, it hurts...

  • love her!

  • She is my true inspiration. She has achieved more then anyone could have anticipated (not only the harry potter books), and yet, she continues to suprise us. It is my opinion that - if you really really want something and you give it all your effort - you will be succesful.

  • Mrs. Murray! Hurray!

  • Comment removed

  • FEARLESS!!

  • didnt know she was so hot ;d

  • go joanne! haha. such an inspiration. i wanted to be a writer someday. and I'm telling you, my work is largely influenced by HP and I'm having a hard time going to a different league.

  • oh my god! I want that speech at my graduation! she's beautiful inside out.

  • I love her. She's such an inspiration.

  • A true, true, true inspiration. I have been watching this speech over and over again since I saw it first...

  • I really admire J.K. Rowling, she is an icon of our generation. She never seeks the limelight, and yet writes wonderful books which will last for many generations.

  • Patetic!!!

  • Learn to spell before you try to flame people.. it's 'Pathetic' not 'Patetic'.. LMAO

The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits. J.K.Rowling is a genius.. have guess which you are?

  • I do not care about your views of "Gringa" hypocrite too LMAO + WTF

  • die in a hole. ill eat ure cat.

  • some of the commonwealth believe that everyone needs a burger tasteless and ill-prepared, do not understand that in this world there are cultures that eat not only dogs but cats, rodents, insects, viscera, skin and the appendages, not my case for eating a cat, but do not hurt. Wow

  • you MORON! look past the fantasy and you'll c how brilliant it is.

  • Your intitled to your own opinion, and I apologize for calling you a moron. But I have to disagree, I wonder, and you may as well have and disliked it, but did you read the series? Because I thought exactly like you before my sibling convinced me to read it and up untill then I had no idea of the metaphors that engaged the series. And I also enjoy reading Edgar Allan Poe for the record.

  • Ms Rowling was married to a Portuguese man, who mistreated her in every level possible. I am Portuguese, I know Portuguese men, and I know what she went through... thank god she escaped it... I respect Ms Rowling deeply, I know what she went through... She deserves every bit of happiness she has. It is not Shakespeare, but it is a story that touches our hearts... She made herself... :-) Namaste

  • i love her, such a perfect woman

  • i love her!!great writer ,open-minded woman!!

  • are you a toastmaster?!

  • dlanthoney89: your comment reads as if you bear a grudge. You talk as if your observations are self-evident when this is clearly not the case. Something is troubling you; come share with us what is eating at you, why the bitterness, the suppressed anger?

  • I'm glad you weren't there. If you're going to criticize someone that badly because they don't live up to your standards, you don't deserve to get to be at such an inspiring event.

  • dlanthoney89

Contd. And what do you mean by "...the brittish (I think you mean British) accent just isn't convincing me either." Are you suggesting that she's actually American? If so, I can assure you you are wrong. She's English. Why would you doubt it???

  • She isn't English, she is Scotish. From Edinburgh. A woman to be respected, regardless of nationality.

  • biguglyandy

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. She IS English, it is just that she now lives in Edinburgh. She was born and brought upin England. She came to Edinburgh in the early 90's after her marriage to a Portuguese man ended. The reason was that her sister had married an Edinburgh restaurateur and cafe owner and JK needed family around her to help her get through her marriage breakdown. She fell in love with the city and decided to settle here (I also live in the city). But she is English.

  • She's English, born in Yate, Gloucestershire.

  • dlanthoney89: a sad and bitter comment - is this the face that you want to present to the world? Who benefits?

  • dlanthoney89

What is your problem???JK Rowling is the first to admit she's had plenty of failure in her life - like most of us. Only most of us don't go on to become phenomenally successful writers, something she has always expressed astonishment at herself. So I say again, what is your problem? Why the bitterness? Why the anger?

  • I like her smile, so sweet :)

  • just wow..

    shes such an inspiration

  • Slag off JK all you want but my God, what did full stops and commas ever do to you?

  • Look in the mirror first and study basic grammar since you feel like such an authority on the subject. Try reading on the topic of run-on sentences, will ya?

And FYI, her main purpose initially was to directly cater to children. What will children do with allegory and such, you pompous jerk.

  • shut the fuck up!

    her book is a classic!

  • omg i want to get with her.. just to get into that mind.. damn

    and im a woman

  • lmao.

  • I adore this woman and the wonderful world she created. J.K. Rowling is an icon of our generation.

  • I adore her too. She is fantastic and such an inspiration.

  • She reminds me of Lynette Scavo from Desperate Housewives here!

  • Wow! What a powerful speech. Part 2 and 3 are even more impressive.

This women is going down in history books.

  • The interesting thing about her is that she makes even dumb people feel good about themselves, probably why she's a billionaire

  • YOU'RE FUCKING SHIT!!!

  • perhaps you should read a few books and expand your vocabulary, as you obviously dont have the intelligence to understand what she's saying!

  • Perhaps you should spend less time trying to sound smart in your comments!

  • I was there! I was there!

  • Hang on...I think I have a medal hanging around here somewhere.

  • J.K. Rowling: What an interesting person. Her speech was amusing which means she has an interesting mind.

  • you didnt pick that up from the harry potter series? ....

  • and just to let you know, if youre really 24, you've been arguing with a group of people 8 years younger than you.

  • so stop messing with people. people talk and share things. and they also like to laugh lol.

  • think whatcha want. unlike you, people have friends

  • wow you are pretty dumb gaud123..

  • OMG bptalla/Theisforto0022 that is so sad! lol

  • her sense of humor was strongly implied in her books..

  • how old are you?

  • Well you said something obviously shallow and ignorant. unless you can get harvard to hire you to do the commencement speech, unless youre face is so much better than Rowlings, i suggest you not say a thing. otherwise, you're inviting such replies.

  • go back and READ. many start out defending her, and then you have no other defenses for yourself but to make a big deal out of such petty things as typos.

  • nope, look at the plenty of others who've defended jk rowling. and look at the number of insults you've made about her, not just today, but days on end. so you obviously keep coming back to this video to watch it while you criticize her appearance.

  • do you just sit on here all day, continually insulting JK rowling? you've gotten a lot of negative responses and yet you keep doing it.

  • hahaaa.. nope, idiot. but thanks for another chance to show your idiocy. look at my response time compared to yours. but since you brought that up, seems you're refreshing this page every 2 seconds.

  • LAUGHING MY ASS OFF. that wasn't a typo. your thick, mindless head just never learned how to spell the word.

  • right. took you a little longer to reply there, and yet all you reply with is a bunch of gibberish defenses. i suggest you get a life and stop sitting on youtube all day, everyday, awaiting for any form of human contact through youre "outlook" and by the way-- because is spelled B-E-C-A-U-S-E. ironic, that's a short and simple, preschool-learned word to spell.

  • your little petty remarks are pretty funny, because its obvious to anyone who reads them that you seem to have a knack for making false statements about those much more successful than yourself, does that boost your ego? how does it feel for ya?

  • wow, your reply was in an instant wasn't it? paste a photograph of yourself on here before you criticize people, you wimp. assuming that you don't get the shit beat of you, then go ahead and say things like that about people more intelligent than you. since i seem to matter to you so much that you study my messages intensely, study this: get off of your ass and get a life.

  • lol you're a dumb shit. obviously, i don't care about going back to fix typos for idiots like you.

  • well, gaud123, im agreeying to f1zZy that someone needs to beat your face for saying that about JK rowling. so it is you who should try it. try to write speak better than her before you criticize her looks.

  • youtube definately does deserve someone to beat your face.

  • she made so many jokes! just cause she was too nervous to smile doesn't mean she's not good enough, it just means she's human! :)

  • youtube deserves someone to beat your face

  • i agree

  • ive never read harry potter (generation thing i guess), and i never thought much of Ms rowling until this. Poise ...

  • my sister goes to harvard, and she was really impressed

  • i love joe. she changed many people lives including mine in a one way or other

  • Please search TheRachoEiloShow and leave a comment and rating and tell your friends, even if you hate it!

  • Nah, I was wrong: It is THE best and most inspiring speech I have heard in years (referring to parts 2&3 as well).

  • Then you should listen to Clinton's Harvard speech. It's as good, if not better, than Rowling's.

  • I already have. Clinton's speech was a fine one too, but it was a politician's speech, even if quite original. A man's actions speak more eloquently than his words. Clinton emphasized on the fact that we have more that connect us than divide us as humans, yet he did not hesitate to order the bombing of Serbia. I cannot know whether he was justified to do that as a leader, but where was the tolerance he speaks about then?

  • This is one of the best and most inspiring speeches I've heard in years. Cheers, Joan.

  • JK Rowling has done more for illiteracy in this world than any one person in has...I forget who said that but its true....Any author that can get children excited about reading in such a way she has is simply brilliant....Im sure there were many 9 and 10 year old kids who had never picked up a book in their life before the Harry Potter craze came about and they decided they ought to see what all the fuss was about...Maybe those kids are avid readers today....Thats why JK Rowling is important...

  • so true,i read it 1st time bcoz of all d fuss and after seeing d movie, now i'm hooked 2 it

  • Here, here. I was not into reading until Harry potter came along, and now it's my favorite hobby. Probably many Harvard graduates grew up with Harry, and I know I would be touched by her speaking than by any other person.

  • hehehe

  • you are absolutely right! gaud123 . . . .i wish i could have a discussion with you about harry potter books, but defenitely forgetting j k rowling herself and all the good she has done.

  • just as good as Randy Pasch

  • Gosh I LOVE this woman! XXX JK Rules.

  • But that is what she has to do to 'promote' the books. And in the whole thing she smiled at least a few times, cracking jokes and whatnot. This was a Harvard Graduation Ceremony as well, what do you expect from her? She's not miserable. I know that much; if she can joke about things she's said in the past, then she's not that miserable. *shakes head8 Don't know why anybody has to analyze something that's shouldn't even be analyzed.

  • aw I love Jo :D

  • Argument went out of context.

anyway, Rowling is truly a magnificent woman.

Thank You for posting, really inspirational,

TRY TO FINISH THE SPEECH, its really beautiful,

  • Maybe she looks really ugly when she smiles?

  • I'm not denying the truth of your statement, but what it has to do with any of this is beyond me.

  • That is far and away the dumbest reply you've given so far.

  • Actually, he has a point. In all the interviews I've seen her on. I've hardly ever seen her happy. I mean, it's not like she has anything to be miserable about. She's got a stable income and a family. What more does she want?

  • It's been pretty clear that she's not a fan of giving interviews. I think they make her nervous. And it's very, very clear during this speech that she was beyond nervous here. Just because she doesn't seem to particularly enjoy interviews or public speaking, it doesn't mean she's miserable.

  • I'm sure she's just nervous. She's one of those people who love her privacy greatly. I know if I had a million people looking at me just because I came up with a story that became huge, I'd run away and hide too. :)

  • I don't see why, in this instance, you have to. They didn't ask the books to speak at the commencement. They asked Rowling.

  • No. You seem to be suggesting that intelligent people are unable to enjoy a good story. Anyone with half a brain can see the merit of Harry Potter and all the good J.K. has done for the world, as well as admire all of the success she has had, and the fact that she is very charitable and gives away vast sums of her money to charities. And also, anyone with half a brain can look beyond their snobbish tendencies to see that this was a very good speech.

  • I'd guess almost all of them. This may shock you, but intelligent people read Harry Potter.

  • There are 5 or 6 different 'flows' 'in' each page 'in' average? "I'm not that much intelligent"? Well, you're right about that. Like I'm really going to trust you to tell me where grammar mistakes are.

  • best speach, ever.

  • JK Rowling? After spending thousands of dollars on Harvard education and SHE gets invited to speak on Graduation day?

  • WHAT A STANDING OVATION...!!!!!!WOW

  • so brave to open up like that. well done

  • everything a speech should be

  • not gonna lie she's kinda hot

  • She was incredible. Her speech was inspiring and well put. She is a woman that should be respected and adored. Thank you Harvard for inviting her to speak.

  • she is so awesome

my uncle was the limo driver when she was at harvard. its true!

  • sweet speech P.E.R.F.E.C.T i usually dun likes speeches but this one really inspired me man shes a great book writer!

  • I absolutely love this woman. She is an insperation to the whole world, and I just wish that I would have been there to see her in person!

  • She is incredibly brilliant, unfortunately there are so many other heroic people in our world that go unrewarded financially and unpraised every day who deserve just as much if not more accolades as she does.

  • she's a legend!!!!!

  • I wish I could marry her... or maybe not because I'd be worshiping her. I LOVE HER SO MUCH.

  • That was a great speech! I just wish the audience did not laugh so much when Jo was giving it.

  • Be careful here. Just because it is Harvard does not mean that you need to place them high on a pedestal. Ivy Leaguers are just like anyone else. And trust me, Harry Potter was in very high demand on campus. The true power that this woman has is to communicate such a difficult message with such ease and eloquence. Truly a fantastic speech.

  • I was there, and it was an EXCELLENT speech from the heart which had a tremendous impact on a not-easily-impressed crowd.

  • Probably a considerable amount. People were cherring.

  • I loved it. I think the message was great for students entering the "real world"

Her advice was practical & relatable to most peoples lives.

  • true, but i think part of the commencement speech is also entertaining those listening (i mean in a humourous way) and hp gives more room for that i guess? and anyways, the speech should apply to the entire crowd, not just those who are applied in English or Literature...

  • i'm excited to see who harvard invites for the next years.. cuz they've gone through at least: will ferrell, bill gates, ali g, seth macfarlane, jk rowling...

does anyone know if rowling got invited to be an honourary member of the graduating class of 2008? i think they did that with bill gates and maybe seth macfarlane...

  • Yes, Harvard always give an honoary Doctorate Degree to the guest speaker. JK Rowling is now considered an honorary aulmni of Harvard. She will be posted in all future alumni directories

  • Yes, Harvard always give an honoary Doctorate Degree to the guest speaker. JK Rowling is now considered an honorary aulmni of Harvard. She will be posted in all future alumni directories

  • well, i'd say that jk rowling is probably more relatable than margaret atwood, as i'm guessing that harry potter may be more widely read than margaret atwood's works.. i'm not saying one is better than the other, just saying that people are probably more familiar with rowling

  • Have you ever been to a graduation ceremony? If you have you'd know they're BORING unless they have good speakers. This woman is a damn fine speaker and FUNNY to boot. Would you rather she droned on as opposed to making a few really good jokes?

"Take a stroll" through our world? Did you even watch the rest of the speech? She talks about her work at Amnesty International. That's about as much "our world" as you can get.

  • Did you even listen to the whole speach? She only mentions Harry Potter a few times. This is a brilliant speach.

  • you become a billionaire book writer and then you can criticize her.
