also very effective as an instrumental over communion,I have played it a couple of times. I just use quiet string stops on the organ. No need for the oboe stop when you have an oboe player stood next to the console.
we're playing this in my orchestra and I have never seen the mission (yes I know I'm missing out) but I fell in love with this as soon as we played it and that's saying something (taking into account it's only an arrangement and it was the first time we'd played it) :) <3
Ennio Morricone was entirely screwed by the academy awards in 87. Granted Herbie Hancock's win is well deserved but this piece alone should have brought the academy voters to tears. It's been 25 years and this soundtrack still moves the soul.
my goal is to be able to play this piece on my oboe by the time i leave school so that gives me about 5 years, i have already been playing for 1 year :)
The Mission score is one of Ennio Morricone's best works he has ever done, along with the scores of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and "Once Upon a Time in America"
I miss playing the oboe can't wait for school to start back so I can keep playing I feel lost without it and for solo ensemble I wish I could play this song-3
hermosa melodia y musica, ennio supo conocer nuestra america profunda, sus dolores y hermosuras, soy americano, orgulloso de serlo, pero arrepentido de las atrocidades q hicimos
I have never seen The Mission, I never heard of it until my orchestra teacher had us play Gabriel's Oboe. I would love to see it. I'm only thirteen, I have no clue what it's about or what the rating is. But this song is beautiful. Although I played first violin for this song and did not try out for the solo, I know the solo by heart and play it more than anything else:)
one of the "wow..." *drools* kind of feeling type of music. amazing...why cant the world be so peaceful, graceful and beautiful like this piece of music explains to me? close your eyes and listen. you will not want to open your eyes again.
@kleineschutter Don't apologize for being rude, if you are blatantly going to be rude. You know nothing about my attitude or my technique. But the rudeness of your comment tells me alot about yours.
@mermerchar guess you missed the point of my comment, but you're right I was a bit rude myself.
couldn't help getting a bit annoyed seeing the very same comment of yours everywhere where it says "the MIssion". Hope you understand this kind of advertising is not the way of real music. Use your time and energy more wisely. Sorry if I cannot be more clear, but you're young and you still can learn a lot (make use of that!)
Beautiful, played this on piano many a time. Fighting or having God on your side, didn't make much difference to these people. When Robert De Niro, was dying after been shot, his last hoping vision was the priest Jeremy Irons wcarrying the cross would survived, he didn't.(Heartbraking seen) Might or righteousness didn't work. They guy who narrating this, summed it up, it would have been better if we had just left them alone
@westsarebest The point was - the exploiters weren't leaving them alone. They were being enslaved anyway, when caught. At least they died as martyrs, having known God. This is what mission is about, introducing everyone to Jesus, as He told us to. No innocent blood is shed in vain.
@VenusElectricRecords it doesnt matter that it didnt win. the important thing is how many lives and hearts this song had touched. true it should have won, but it all in all, it doesnt matter.
I love this, it was played at my my dads wedding, my step mum looked amazing! me and my sisters were bridesmades and this song will always remind me of that magical day
When my Father died, I knew that on the day we meet again this will play, the sun will shine and I will feel his arms around me once more. Sleep well Dad, I miss you so much
This is the world's sadest movie. It was absolutely amazing of course, but this is the only film that has made me sob. Did you know that in Argentina, one of the most vulgar phrases was spoken by the conquistadors? He told them to "Go out" . They then went, and raped and killed the women. The conquistadors were nothing short of evil.
They played this when we left Primary School (in 2007). The other day my String Group were doing a concert in a church. There was also a woodwind band there, and they played this. My old Primary School teacher was in the audience and she started crying! It was such an emotional day when we left St Wilfrids C Of E Primary. But i love this music =]
Actually, your message may stop me from doing that...'cause you have been the only one who has answered me back. I still have a question though...Do you think there will be hope for a better tomorrow?
The beginning of the film asks a very subtle but very relevant question - why mess with another culture by trying to enforce ones faith/religion on that people ?? had they been left alone, the natives wud have probably defended themselves well - all over the world, these jokers spreading the word of god whom none can see, speak to or hear in PERSON, have created mayhem and continue to do so!
overall, a brilliant film! and an even more brilliant score!
Missionars are people like everyone so they make mistakes. At the begining of the movie you see a missionar get killed maybe couse he did not find the right way to speak the words from the Bible. Even if they are wrong, I believe they do this only to help those people, so not trying to enforce their faith/religion. However this is my opinion. If you try you will be able to see, hear and speak to Him. Peace be with you.
"If you try you will be able to see, hear and speak to Him." !! there is a certain definite, often subtle patronising, condescending attitude at the center of most missionary activity - it has this moral self-righteousness "we know something that you dont know, either u follow what we tell you, or be damned" - it gets worser as one goes across towards the other end of the extreme right wing spectrum, transforming into something ugly - outright hatred for others not following their 'faith'!
