@fredericfranc Lol. You didn't have to type like an essay to put that, "DickKnowsBest," guy down. Geez don't you have anything else in your life to do besides giving lectures to people who just trolls on the internet?
@fredericfranc Aha. Why put down someone who has unique talent? Seriously... everyone has their own opinions but I don't recommend expressing it and putting down Yundi Li.
@G00PG00PIE ...Yundi does have "unique talent" and so on, nevertheless in this case he did deserve to be "put down". Why and how I went about it, read my "essay"...the later "colorful" parts of it I deleted...
@fredericfranc "Nevertheless in this case he did deserve to be put down." Nobody deserves to be put down. All you are doing is hating. I'm leaving this conversation. If you want to go on writing why he should be deserved to be put down ok waste your time.
@DickKnowsBest ...the "genius" continuation of this argument got shredded by the YT software...but, anyway, given the horrible "audience environment" Yundi is facing, the "worst in history ever" type situation he has on his hands, whatever he does as a musician "just to survive" should be OK with me...for classical music this is "like living under the NAZIS", actually vastly worse than that, today's audience much worse than Hitler ever dreamed of even trying to to be...
@DickKnowsBest ...in classical music, the problem is always, how to survive, while resisting the commercial pressures. The environment, right now, for a classical performer, is the WORST EVER in recorded history, by this I mean since pre-Shakespearean time in England. Mozart WAS hated in his own time, so was Beethoven, Chopin was so hated in his own country, Poland (MY country, too), he escaped to France...BUT the current times are still the WORST EVER for the classical arts...
@DickKnowsBest ...concentrate on the focus of what I am saying here...it is about Yundi's sense of taste and what kind of pianist he is trying to be (no, not his technique either). I am saying that he should have better sense than playing this foolishness in public because pianists who should be the role models for him would not play pieces like this. THAT is the point. YOU learn from others, your betters, probably. What THEY would do, etc..But he does not have to, obviously...
@DickKnowsBest ...in my original comment I am "condemning" Yundi for being a sort of a cocktail lounge pianist, and choosing to play "junk" pieces rather than something more "pianistically substantial"...after all, he did win the Chopin Comp., and could be expected to show "better taste"...can you imagine Zimerman or Argerich showing interest in playing such rank pianistic bon-bons or trifles in public?...does he need the money THAT bad?..
@DickKnowsBest ...had to fish for my comment of 7 months ago...Liszt operatic paraphrases are often seen as junk music by pianists, Liszt himself probably thought so because this is a rather sloppy piece of work...but it fits Yundi Li's purposes here...
@xBleach4Eva It depends. A piece like La Campanella will take a normal player a full year to (nearly) complete it well. Piano pieces can't ever be perfected. There's always more you can do...
These are my favorite 20-21st century pianists: Wilhelm Kempff, Evgeny Kissin, Yundi Li, Vladimir Horowitz, maybe Lisitsa (her interpretations are funny).
..our boy "shortens" his name to...Yundi, wears these white jackets on stage, plays junk...like this, and works his face like that too...what is happening to the guy?...hitting the skids?...
Yundi Li has, in my humble opinion, one of the best versions of all 3 songs played here. I don't know why people argue who's better than who; if they're all good, what's the difference? And since some people are going to be frowned upon, don't mention them. Relax and enjoy the music.
For those of you who disrespect Lang Lang for Yundi, Lang does one huge thing better: technique. Musically I take Yundi over Lang any day but Yundi's way of playing puts so much stress in his body it's absurd how he can finish those passages. All those shoulder lifts and finger curls, without them imagine how much better Yundi still could be. La Campanella was BEAUTIFULLY played and yet he hit wrong notes even at a reduced tempo.Somewhat a pity. I still would go to his concert over Lang's though
Also, if I remember correctly, sunflower was performed as an encore piece, along with a ton of others, since the crowd just didn't stop applauding until it was literally like an hour after the performance was scheduled to finish.
@TheNoralein this is the last time i hear this. Cmon, they're different in so many ways. Yundi is young, Lang Lang is experienced, Lang lang is proffesional, Yundi isn't. Lang lang has emotion, Yundi, much less noticeable. Comparing apples to oranges is stupid. And besides, these are artists/interpretors, not celebrities.
haha dude i really dont like lang lang. yes lang lang is good but i believe that he solely has more marketing power which makes him more popular than LI YUNDI
His interpretations however seem to be inferior to LI YUNDI
@123mazeppa Beautiful piece that I've been meaning to learn for a while, but then I went and found the sheet music. Difficulty-wise, it's on par at least with his concert etudes - which is to say, damn difficult. T_T
12 pages of so many notes........ >_> Looks pretty much impossible/really painful for a person with a small hand, too, since everything is in octaves.
And yeah, his Campanella is absolutely amazing. The clarity of tone, and his TOUCH. OMG. AND he looks really unhurried doing it.
@elrdamir actually Justin Bieber has some classica background: he plays the flute and the piano. he composes a lot of his songs by himself. and, guess what, he is a big admirer of chopin!!! so please be more respectful to J.B..
@sexyLASTninja trust me justin beiber doesnt compose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he just picks 3 chords that sound good to him and the producer, then voala for some weird fxxd up reason its a hit!!!!!
@mattssecrets yes the hit singles. please listen to the album!! the complexity of his songs is overwhleming- and he is a chopin follower indeed. he can play the flute, too!!
@sexyLASTninja By composing you mean "to use just 2 chords in orther to get more songs? justin Bieber is a faggot....and a big admirer of chopin? my balls...sexylastninja, (dude or gal) U are just plain stupid, more respect to chopin Yundi LI and the REAL musicians!
If you are a true, from-the-heart pianist (or really any other kind of musician, for that matter), you won't play for the sheer enjoyment of being applauded or commended for your talent. Instead, you'll find an escape through music; you'll feel every bit of it; you'll get caught up in the whole atmosphere of a piece. -Not just mindlessly play it out (regardless of how 'good' your dynamics, tempo, or technique sounds/appears). :)
@Classic1940s That's exactly right. I live my life entirely drawn to/by music. Pianist and Bassist primarily, I've learned a lot of Chopin, Liszt, Mozart etc.etc. and it's all about escaping into the vast wilderness of joy that music brings.
This may sound odd, but I play for a metal band as well as sing for one. (I find that metal/classical share a lot in common) and I play/write entirely from the heart.
I honestly hate people like Beiber who abuse music just to make quick money.
@KiaOra53 chopin was a genius, yes. yundi li is a master of the art of interpreting chopin's genius. but a genius, he is not. in fact, i'd have a hard time calling any master pianist a genius. not even liszt. great craftsmen, great artists, but geniuses, no. genius is a word that gets thrown around too easily in the realm of the subjective.
There are different ways to interpret each piece depending on the enthusiasm and feeling each pianist give to them, they are all great and they are all blessed with this gift of God: to play the piano and express their emotions and to share it with us.
He plays the most juycy musik I have ever heard..... When I saw this at first time i fellt like I fellt like having shower bath with light and switness//... He is ancomparable... Thank you Yundi Li for being as good as it's impossible to be..... I here your soul
If you really want to compare, Lang Lang likes to show - a trait of an entertainer - and express his own interpretation, while we see Yundi continuing to improve and perfect his music like a true artist.
Still, Lang lang worked very hard to get to where he is today, and just because hes a little unorthodox people refuse to give him credit. Imagine a white guy trying to gain recognition in China doing Peking Opera.
@iSpoonyBard I would not call playing like a buffoon and looking like he is getting blowjob while doing it as 'unorthodox'. His playing is downright atrocious. And the worst part is, people like you who doesn't know head from asshole call him 'non-traditional' playing.
@jefftam1234 i don't want to argue like a grade schooler. you may know more and you may be correct, but the use of euphemism and diffidence is a good habit in preventing making yourself looking like a narrow minded fool.
@grinner76 I agree we should just enjoy the gifts they share with us. I think the comparisons come from that they r both Chinese and very young. Both offer incredible enjoyment for myself and many many others around the world.
@Malodorok its called expressing music and emotions....
if u just see a pianist play like a robot w/o any major movements then why even bother having artists? we would just listen to the automatic computer all day :P

Hats off gentleem - a genius.
KiaOra53 1 year ago
@KiaOra53 chopin was a genius, yes. yundi li is a master of the art of interpreting chopin's genius. but a genius, he is not. in fact, i'd have a hard time calling any master pianist a genius. not even liszt. great craftsmen, great artists, but geniuses, no. genius is a word that gets thrown around too easily in the realm of the subjective.

Shit 11:02 his hands must be burning with fire, and probably sore. XD but if he enjoys it, Yundi go play till your fingers brake off. XD

There are different ways to interpret each piece depending on the enthusiasm and feeling each pianist give to them, they are all great and they are all blessed with this gift of God: to play the piano and express their emotions and to share it with us.

Bravo!! but, why this version of sun flower is not complete?

If you really want to compare, Lang Lang likes to show - a trait of an entertainer - and express his own interpretation, while we see Yundi continuing to improve and perfect his music like a true artist.
Still, Lang lang worked very hard to get to where he is today, and just because hes a little unorthodox people refuse to give him credit. Imagine a white guy trying to gain recognition in China doing Peking Opera.
iSpoonyBard 1 year ago
@iSpoonyBard I would not call playing like a buffoon and looking like he is getting blowjob while doing it as 'unorthodox'. His playing is downright atrocious. And the worst part is, people like you who doesn't know head from asshole call him 'non-traditional' playing.

@jefftam1234 i don't want to argue like a grade schooler. you may know more and you may be correct, but the use of euphemism and diffidence is a good habit in preventing making yourself looking like a narrow minded fool.

Why do people keep comparing him to Lang Lang?
grinner76 1 year ago 4
@grinner76 I agree we should just enjoy the gifts they share with us. I think the comparisons come from that they r both Chinese and very young. Both offer incredible enjoyment for myself and many many others around the world.
dopeywonder 1 year ago
@grinner76 Because he's Asian.
PanzerFrog 1 year ago
@grinner76 their both Chinese, and yundi &langlang are apparently the only two Asian pianist people know.

the best interpretation of la campanella.

1. State you're amazed at his superlative playing
2. State that lang lang is nowhere as good as he is etc. etc.
3. ???
4. Profit!!!! (more thumbs up)
Seriously, they all have their styles whether it's lang lang or whoever.
Nanotech11 1 year ago
@khami231234 No, it doesn't. Pianists play with their fingers, hands and arms, not with their face.
Malodorok 1 year ago
@Malodorok its called expressing music and emotions....
if u just see a pianist play like a robot w/o any major movements then why even bother having artists? we would just listen to the automatic computer all day :P
^^ just speaking my mind
