some shops they cost over 10 grand here in uk. got knocked off 2 yrs ago but when i get compo gonna get one of these for summer i hope!! i have had 1000 cc superbikes will i find 848 sluggish?
ok, i know nothing about motorcycles so don't harp on my about my question. what are the two cylinders that are full of liquid that are on his handlebars?
so i want to buy my first bike, i've never owned one before, neither has my dad or any relatives that i know of. this is the bike i want, but as alot of you have said, my first bike shouldn't be a ducati, what kind of bike should i start off with, and how much experience do you think i'll need before i can successfully own a ducati?
I recommend kawasaki 250. they are really light. So you will be able to get a lot of experience out of the bike. I said ride it about a year. Ride it like anywhere possible. if you comfortable with it after the year. you can move onto a higher bike. maybe a 600cc. and ride the one for like 2 or three years. and if you feel confidated about riding bikes, you will be ready for a ducati. reply if you have any ?. i riding bikes for ten years. i can help you out.
Now i read a gs500f and im thinking about this bike as my next bike. I often go on little 100 200 mile trips, will i still be able to do this without wanting to kill myself?
it's not just the power of the bike but also the handling. This is a precise handling race bike for the street. Someone without experience is going to tell the bike to do things he shouldn't and it'll go ahead and do it and put him in a shitty spot.
at last a Ducati bike which is an alternative for the Japanese middle weights fans :) good price, 12kg heavier than Japs 600cc's yet looks neat and certainly a keeper. thats my personal opinion with all due respect to the heavy weights ultra fast and extraordinary Jap bikes :)
who the hell would want a Ducati for their first bike? Ive been riding for 6 years on everything from 150s-1000s I personally havent and wont own a 1000. Its not necessary. I am looking forward to buying an 848 when I get back from Iraq. Skin grafts suck.
if you never rode a bike before or even if your buying your first bike never buy a brand new one. like everone said the best bike to buy is ninja 250 don't even buy it new!! it's like when you first drive a car, only a fool would buy a new car!! atleast for a year ride on a used bike, also is good because when you fall and you will you won't feel so bad, if you have a new bike you will cry like a little girl from scratching it.
Your 19, driven a cbr 600 rr? Is this a suitable first bike....? Alot of poeple have said they've ridden bikes. Which normally means gone round the block slowly. This is not a suitble first bike. Try something smaller, alot smaller. At 19 I very much doubt this is in your price range either.
been wanting to ride a Ducati sport bike for years, but never got around to getting a motorcycle license. was always busy with other things. but i am going to make riding my new hobby, the 848 has pushed me over the edge. unfortunately it will be awhile before i am ready to handle any Ducati so i will start with a Ninja 250R and work my way up from there.
iv had a ninja 250 for about a year now and it is a great starter bike i plan on trading it in in a few months to get the 848. it looks and sounds sweet!
I've had mine a week and I love it. With Ducati's though, you either love them or hate them. There is no in between. I've owned several bikes over the years but this one is by far the fastest. Not the fastest bike made, just the fastest I've owned. My "daily" rider is a Yamaha which I love, but there is no comparison. Sure, you could compare a Duc to a zx, gsxr, r6, or cbr. You could, but why would you? They are different breeds, not just different bikes. So go ahead & hate on Duc's if you want.
busas are indeed gay. hilarious to see some guy on a busa at a track day going 170 on straights then 30 mph around 75 mph corners. the ones all painted up in chrome flames with airbag suspension, nitrous etc are really nauseating.
The 848 is equivalant to a gsxr 750 it has about 134 hp. gsxr is a 4- cyl with just about eh same the ducati is only a v twin if you look at the "equals" to ducati models i.e: 1098 wich has an 1100 cc displacement has 165 hp where as a yamaha R1 has a 1000 cc displacement claims 185 hp yamaha has a 4 cyl ducati is a v twin they need that extra displacement to compensate Ducati is geared more fore a racetrack and more technicalo riding not so much go fast in a straight line.
i have a 2007 ninja zx-6r and love it, but i walked in and saw this bike and love it as well, so i think i will buy this one to, i would have to say that i think my 07 zx-6r could take the 848
Roflmao... I'd LOVE to see that happen. The only place like skilled riders on ZX6R's touch me on the track is in the straights...and I race an SV650.. The 848 would run circles around you

MAN! I'd say this is one ball-achingly beautiful bike (in white). And oh... how i'd give one of my kidneys to be in your position, raptorama! Thanks for posting this great vid! Hey, did u say 1098R???
1-0-9-8-R indeed! McWilliams will test it in my place. I'm the back office on this one crossing my fingers and toes for some good onboard video etc...
It's aimed at the 600's and everything in between, but not the 1000's. Check out the 1098R that we'll ride at Jerez in a couple of weeks for a response to the 1000's.
Not really a fan of Ducati's but i'd by this or the 1098 (if i could afford it haha). And i'd definately by a twin before looking at a 4 cylinder. TL1000R 4 life....
The TLR was the very first V-twin superbike that I owned in 99. Much better than what people say. Next test for us are the 1098R... 1198.4cc, 180bhp, 165kg, Traction control and ridiculously expensive.
I had a 99 Tiller. Great bike. Best looking bike ever I think. But handling wise my old RC51 SP2 would kill it. The new Ducatis make my RC look like a pig. You should give one of these a try man. They're incredible.
Beautiful. The first time I have been tempted to upgrade my 06 620 Monster. Ducati twins are much more drivable than small fours. Great torque lower in powerband. And that sound! Bella!
Common Tor, been waiting for your full review for weeks! :). I know youre all nice and stuff and like to wait for all the other Yanks to report on it first... But their reviews and videos suck anyway! Yours are always much better, screw them.
Thank you. They are absolutely standard. They sound really great from certain angles. Notice that from the riders position they sound muffled, but anyone listening from behind you will hear a completely different sound...
Ruben is amazing on this track and it's such a privilege to ride on the same bit of tarmac as him at the same time! The 848 did its bit on keeping it smooth as well.
Thanks for this awesome vid! Loved every moment of it. This bike is intoxicating. I've ridden a Japanese sport bike for a little over a season (it's a 599cc...). I was looking for a great step up, and if a person close to me doesn't sell me their tricked out '07 GSX-R750 (tricked out in a tasteful way, mind you) I'm putting down the $500 security deposit ASAP.
As long as its seat height isn't punishing to sit on (it's high, but if it's thin enough...), I'd like it. It doesn't have as much of a top end scream in comparison to a 750 from what I can see on paper, but it has a lot more torque. A 'Daytona killer' sounds about right...just hope it's more comfortable than a Daytona.

dont get me wrong, its a great bike, i love it...
but i dont excatly get what made ducati build a 848cc bike AND call it a midwheight...
i mean its smack in the middle between a normal midwheight bike (gsxr 750) and a 1000cc bike...
or has putting an extra 100cc or so on top of a category become a ducati fashion?

848 is comparable to 4cyl 600s in power, I'm not sure it would be a step up, not a great one for sure. It's different (being 2cyl), that's it.
