I'm so glad he kept himself restrained on this song. he kept it simple and let the music speak for itself. but what i love most about this performance was the ease at which he came out on stage and he owned it. didn't look like we were watching a vocal competition at all, looked like he was doing his own concert already. the way he played to the crowd, and fed off their energy, it's rare to see a new performer understand the importance of connecting with the fans, and he did just that. amazing.

I LOVE U2 and I like David Cook a lot. I'm glad he did this one, and wish he'd recorded it as an Idol single. Did he do as good as U2? No! Of course not--it's U2 for goodness sake, but this is a solid performance. The arrangement isn't that great though...it's missing the restrained intensity of the original and sounds more like a hired wedding band is playing it. I don't like the "scoop" at the end, but it works for this situation.

@7skittlesful This season was by far the best. Lee (before I heard beautiful day), Crystal, Casey, Mike, and Siobhan were all great. If any of them were in a different season they would've won. This season saw the most people who were actually looking to become their own artist. Not wanting to sing other people's songs. I hate that David Cook gets all this credit for being original with his Billie Jean performance. He did it exactly the way Chris Cornell did. He was good, but no artist.
