Police responded excellently during the Olympics. They kept order without any undue violence. I even saw a police officer get spit on and stay calm and collected, let's see you all do that. Overall, very professional conduct all around.

From what I've gathered, it seems they were more concerned about the frivolous expenses of the olympic games in the face of a variety of rather prevalent social issues in that very city. That seems to have been the primary message. But there were a lot of other groups, pushing divergent messages, and unfortunately there seems to have been a fairly large violent protest element among them. The overall message did get drowned out almost completely.

I'm one of these "faggot hippies" that fucked shit up. It was the express-purpose of the demonstration that day, we didn't "hijack the demo" as the capitalist media insists.

The olympics became a powerful symbol of everything that's fucked about the priorities of this society.

With that in mind, a bunch of us got together and made a statement that's harder to ignore than a standard peaceful march.

Very unlikely. What most people don't know is that the olympics have been protested for years and because of the violence this was the first time they ever got real mass news coverage. It would make no sense for the cops to stage a riot during what would have been a completely insignificant and ignored protest otherwise.

news boxes were tipped into the streets and a window was broken.... this news clip makes it seem like cars were being smashed and people were being lynched.... they focus on the "dangerous rioters" to take away from the REAL protestors who had a voice that wanted to be heard but of course didnt over the broken window
