Bawled like a baby when I first heard this and I still do everytime I rewatch buffy and get to becoming part II..The song comes in so perfectly after the end of close your eyes and its just beautiful in the moment. It seems like every Sarah McLachlan song is just perfect from her lyrics to the instruments to her voice:)
I think this song is about loving someone so much you know you have to let them go, even if it makes you miserable in the process, because you know, to quote, "its better this way". Source: experience.
Sarah Mclachlan is beautiful. Music to my heart. brings tears to my eyes. My mother and I listened to her while I was growing up. Brings back so many magnificent memories.
@pinkangelfire137 This album was huge 1998, but as an individual track, this song received notoriety for being played in the season 2 finale of Buffy.
I remember hearing this song played at the end credits of the movie "Moll Flanders"...I loved it before the movie ever came out,and twice as much after.
See, I only just joined the Buffy fanworld, and I was so wrecked by the end of Season 2 that I'm afraid to go on to Season 3 because I'm afraid I'll just end up in this little crying ball of angst...
oh buffy! I'm so sorry!!!!! I miss Angel too!!!!!!! Maybe he'll come back from hell or something like that.... eh, probably not. But we live on a hell mouth anyhthing could happen.
I wish I didn't have to read about buffy everytime I come here to listen to this song. This music is a radiant work of warmth and hope and easily has the class and distinction to be admired for its own beauty, independent of whatever other works that used it.
this song is awesome i dont see how anyone can make such a sad song though. the latse piasode of buffy is so sad. they intentiolly make her loose everything and that plus song = very sad
I been living in the Buffyverse these last days....Season 2 rules SURPREME and this song is SOOOO amzing. And to this day, even though I have watched Buffy kill Angel and leave Sunnydale a lot...I'm crying like a dog each time again and again. LOVE the song so much...

i love this song its so deep, the words and the sound of sarahs voice match my feelings right now at this monent, sad, lost, not of this world and in deep mourning for the lost and the missing, thanku for shareing its very real and comforting to hear a wonderful tune like this one when you feel like your whole world is falling down around you,
I feel kind of bad, everyone here says how this song reminds them of Buffy, I know *of* the show but I never saw it. It's not like I never wanted to see it either, just never got around to it. Sounds good though, I'll check it out... This song is so moving... To me, it always reminded me of the tragic story of Spider-Man's true love Gwen Stacy, and how Peter's complicated life eventually brought about her death in that horrible incident... So haunting and full of melancholy. A versatile song.
@30secondstomarsKandQ I can see how it'd sort of relate to that, but the thing I'm thinking of is different... In Spider-Man, way back in the 70's, Gwen hated him cause she thought he killed her dad, then Goblin found out who Peter was and kidnapped her. He threw her off a bridge, and when Peter tried to save her with his web the stop broke her neck. The tragic irony is, his Uncle Ben died because he wasn't Spider-Man; Gwen died because he was. No matter what he does, he loses his loved ones.
God, the part from 0:56 on reminds me so much of some other song. I've been tearing through my music collection trying to find it but no luck, can't get it off of my mind...
Every time you lose someone you love, no matter how, you feel empty, and like there is no reason for you to live anymore... The one that leaves takes a part of you with him, a part that you will never get back, even if you continue your life. When you truly love, you always come back to him, even if only in a dream...
@andreeaelle True. Same goes for us guys who lose a girl. You're never the same again, IF your level of love was great. I've been there and live in the after to this day.
It is often nearly impossible to get out of that "same old sickly skin". Just try to live life the best that one can.
Every single time I hear this song, it makes me cry so much. The words move my heart. Those of you who have had to let a loved one go know what I'm talking about. Buffy knows...
@aidinharper Yeah coz Joss Whedon and the producers of Buffy just tagged this song on the end of an episode without Sarah McLachlan or her record company knowing or caring.
@LuvMy7Fuzzies "We danced like sparrows within the flames of each other, fluttering and gliding in the currents of our emotions. We celebrated in the great truth I'd learned in her father: all men and women are created equal...we are one being: humankind.
It says something about the power of that final sequence in "Becoming, Part 2" that 12 years later, this song is still associated with it (and will surely be for a long time). Buffy will always be one of the greatest shows and heroines in TV history.
I LOVE watching and listening to this video on a cool summer night gazing at the stars. Its sooo awesome. It makes you feel more alive and reflect on life.
I never watched Buffy during its original run; I thought it was just a silly supernatural action show. I never realized how amazingly well-written it was, nor how each character had their own arc. Joss Whedon is an amazing writer, he knows exactly which heartstrings to pluck.
This song was the perfect choice for the episode, and it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear the song or see this episode. Season two had the best, most dramatic story arc of the whole series, in my opinion.
this song was perfect for the ending of Buffy episode "becoming part 2"
I watched the episode recently and I actually cried when willow said "yeah she'll be here in a while"
I cried not just because of the memories the episode brought but because Buffy is dead and because they'll never make a good show like buffy ever again
wow almost all of these comments are buffy fans:) its funny bc this song was used in buffy in only one episode yet it seems to stick to everyone's mind that its a "buffy song". I only learned about this song from watching buffy hehe. And why do you hate buffy fans thekymberlie?
@car250389 with the saddest ending :( i got all teary when she had to kill Angel instead of Angelus, just like Sarah M.G. i think Buffy and Angel should have been together by the end of the show, the two actors make their characters so great that you can only love them despite their flaws...still one of the best show i've ever seen
im sure that miss mclachan didnt expect this to have the effect it did when released but my god no song could of been better for this episode of buffy! it will always ALWAYS be the song of angel and buffy for me !
I've always loved this song, ever since I first heard it over the final episode of "due SOUTH" in 1998. Keep coming back to it, it's so beautifully haunting!
@oneazariah God bless ya Sir. I salute you :) Buffy's my hero and I don't care who laughs at that. She is one tough human being even if she is ficticious lol
@oneazariah i agree. so many people don't understand how amazing the series really was. it was thought too much as a silly fantasy story but the morals, emotion, and everything behind it was so amazing and i was heartbroken when it ended.
@oneazariah I just watched this episode again, it's been a few years. Buffy is a very inspirational character, and the end of this episode was, in my opinion, the most emotional moment of the entire series.
This song is gorgeous but hard to listen to... my throat tightens up when i hear the lyrics... because I have been there.

Good television is dead, just like Buffy

Perfect song for that Buffy episode. Glad I'm not one of the whiners here who missed out on such a great show, which is why they "don't get it".

wow almost all of these comments are buffy fans:) its funny bc this song was used in buffy in only one episode yet it seems to stick to everyone's mind that its a "buffy song". I only learned about this song from watching buffy hehe. And why do you hate buffy fans thekymberlie?

@ElysianxFields well, it was a potent buffy episode. i remember watching this live and just feeling so depressed, and yet not lost.

car250389 1 year ago 5
@car250389 with the saddest ending :( i got all teary when she had to kill Angel instead of Angelus, just like Sarah M.G. i think Buffy and Angel should have been together by the end of the show, the two actors make their characters so great that you can only love them despite their flaws...still one of the best show i've ever seen

You did a great job with the pictures!
I've always loved this song, ever since I first heard it over the final episode of "due SOUTH" in 1998. Keep coming back to it, it's so beautifully haunting!

That was such a good episode.
"No weapons, no friends, no hope... what do you have left?"
"Me."
Buffy is so empowering to me, even as a male. There's a little bit of Buffy in all of us.

@oneazariah God bless ya Sir. I salute you :) Buffy's my hero and I don't care who laughs at that. She is one tough human being even if she is ficticious lol
Browncoatt22 1 year ago 5
@oneazariah I SO agree! Nice to have a man say that!
Catherine20120 1 year ago
@oneazariah i agree. so many people don't understand how amazing the series really was. it was thought too much as a silly fantasy story but the morals, emotion, and everything behind it was so amazing and i was heartbroken when it ended.
iLyHannahhhx 1 year ago 3
@oneazariah I just watched this episode again, it's been a few years. Buffy is a very inspirational character, and the end of this episode was, in my opinion, the most emotional moment of the entire series.
