  • too bad they cant eat snails

  • Where can I buy one

  • Only good skeeter is a dead skeeter.

  • there is a humantrap.. its called gypsies robbing manhole covers

  • it must have been a death knight :P

  • ive thinking about growing one of these,

do you know if they will grow well under a PLANT LIGHT??

    vs regular sun?

  • fuck you mosquito, go shit in hell with satan

  • It should be Ponty Mython if it is Monty Python backwards not Panty.

  • would if be ok to cut the heads off and let them grow back? mine are all messed up when i bought it the traps stay half open and are mangled....would it be possible just to cut them off and the plant will grow new ones????

  • Head lock. lol

  • if there was venus human traps., Id be scared shitless. Probably big as a tv.

  • We so need one of these in our cafeterias. :|

  • that mosquito is freaking huge

  • If chuck norris would be a plant, this is what he would be

  • i can't wait to have one of these little bastards for myself!!! i love this plant

  • normally that flap will decay due to the over sized insect it catch...

  • My first Venus fly trap was exactly like yours. Bloomrite brand. Luckily it survived it's first dormancy.

  • THAT VENIS FLYTRAP IS A SPY!!

  • My Flytraps are so healthy now that I've transplanted them into a mix of Sphagnum Moss and Pearlite. They not only don't need soil, the minerals in soil can KILL them by blocking the roots. Mine never looked happy in Peat Moss. Yesterday watching mine for only about 20 minutes, I saw 2 flies get caught (got it on video) and one fly set off 3 traps without getting caught. Once he beat it, twice he found a gap small enough to squeeze through.

  • Cool end of video.

  • I wonder if you set a finger near it, if the venus trap'll close. o_o

  • @SonnytheArcticFox it will but it wont be dangerous only if you keep it in for like 15 mins yes because the inzins or i forgot how to spell it starting working then it will

  • O_o... the insect doesn't respond much with its bright colors, but that the Venus Flytrap (Much like other common plants) secrete a sweet smell that the bugs are attracted to. Mostly Flies.

  • DAMN NATURE YOU SCARY!

  • I guess with "mosquito hawk" you mean "daddy long-legs", a.k.a. crane fly. Despite they look like a mosquito, they are very harmless.

  • @1Henry15 No!

After the trap closes it releases acids from glands on the inside which sucks out the liquid from the bug

7-10 days later trap the re-opens and all that remains is a dried out bug

  • @1LegoStudio then what in the world does it do with it? kill it for fun?

  • @joejosephi Once the acids are in the chamber, in works like a stomach. The acids suck all the proteins and liquids from the bug, and are sucked back into the plant.

  • Lol this is so fucked!

  • does it swallow it?

  • I win

  • It really is amazing how many idiots feed them meat. Even when I bought my first one (I was 10) I wasn't that stupid! As a result within three months it outgrew its pot.

  • lol u got this venus fly trap in home depot

  • whats the music?

  • when you put a fly in a venus fly trap does the skin stay there cause ive got 1 and when they open the fly skin is still there!

  • I bet that there are going to be venus human traps luring humans with beer

  • What happens is that when the insect lands on the venus flytrap, it is attracted by the vibrant colors, and the nectar that the venus flytrap makes. When a small fiber of hair is touched within the trap, a timer sarts. If another or the same hair is touched again, the trap clamps shut. After that, digestive enzymes are realeased, and eat the insect alive. 10 days later, the plant opens up, ready for its next meal.

  • rofl... behind it says: Crunch!

    OMNOMNOMNOM

  • feed me semoar

  • In World of Warcraft, Death Grip....

  • @Bloodsoldr haha death knights rule

  • @Bloodsoldr Hell Yeah Death Knights FTW!!!

  • ummmm t his is late but that isnt a hawk thats a mosquito eater...............still it got owned

  • lol what a nerdy explanation, and i understoood it

  • to bad that wasnt justin bieber

  • OMG i bought the exact same kind of flytrap and i dont really know what to do with it :// for the first couple days i thought it woulld catch enough being in my room and im not sure....sould i go outside and catch ants? What about when all the ants go marching home? am i expected to catch a mosquitoe to bring to him D:

:// i dont want to put him outside just yet but i really want him to live and gets enough humidity and stuff....any hellp? -Confused

  • @Xxuniqueusername1000 ants will kill the trap that eats it

  • @Xxuniqueusername1000 I have one also. I simply jus catch moths or spiders that enter the house I see on occasion and feed them to my plant. There are tiny hairs inside the trap that triggers it to close. Feeding it once a month a couple of times is enough.

  • I wonder how strong the grip is. I just saw a damn video where it ate a frog. thats insane.

  • lol that vunes fly trap looks weak :o its all brown and wimpy looken

  • wow thats just gross and scarey. that mosquito has huggeee legs and its creepy how it moves.

  • I GOT to have that plant!

  • If I had to choose a way to die it would not be this way, slow acid digestion ow!

  • Venus Fly Trap: ahhahaha YES oh yes HELL YA

    You can suck it

you can suck it you can suck it you can all suck it! LIVE WELL AND SUCK IT

  • the bugs arent attracted to the colors their attracted to the feast of nectar. then the 6 trigger hairs 3 on each side one touch of one sets off a timer another touch within the 20 second timer and the trap snaps shut.

  • @tylertehman The bugs are attracted to the colors and nectar

  • Wow I was just teaching using an article about these plants! (I teach ESL, btw.)

  • If you stand there for a week with your pinky finger in the trap it might get digested lol

  • I put a piece of a hotdog in one before and the hotdog turned all black. It was pretty cool.

  • It Died a couple months ago....it lived since I was in Grade 4...now its 2 years later...RIP

  • nasty

  • I'm pretty fuckin happy there aren't VENUS HUMANTRAPS!!!

  • Would be awesome ^^

  • @TheLenism ROTFLMAO! YOU AND ME BOTH!

  • @TheLenism Who cares? after a few deaths we'd realize they're dangerous..

  • @TheLenism my friend , I am fuckin sad for that SAME REASON... (he he just kiddin but believe me , some people are worse than the worst poisonous insects )

  • @TheLenism with a magazine bait?

  • @TheLenism

    KILL IT WITH FIRE!!

  • @TheLenism Admiral akbar: ITS A TRAP.

  • @zombibrainlover lol He posted that like a year ago...

  • @TheLenism How would venus lure humans to the trap? Sex and Money?

  • @TheLenism sure this is...it's called "Debt"

  • @TheLenism Those wouldn't work anyway. We're too fuckn smart.

  • @TheLenism I stuck my finger in there one time though R.I.P. right pinky

  • Mine bit my finger :D

  • Cool! But fly traps are not attracted to the red spot, They are attracted to it because of the smell of it, It has sugar and nectar on it and when an insect touches two trigger hairs in a row the trap shuts.

  • venus:nomnomnom tastes like chicken! =)

  • he he he. sucks for the fly!

  • Lol... awesome video. The music makes it interestingly attractive.

  • @maxhappyface it did make the video better nice!

  • When the screen blured I expected to see "YOU DIED" for some reason. lol

  • Your not getting outta there pal

  • wait how could it capture soething that big?

  • i have 7 sundew plants if anyone needs help or info on them i can help you.

  • EEEEEE :P

  • try to insert ur finger

  • that will kill it if done to much

  • a good way to keep your plants from getting eaten by bugs, would be to surround your garden, or sections of your garden with Venus fly traps

  • No, it wouldn't.

  • If these things ever do grow to life size, a way to escape it would be not to struggle. The more you struggle, the more it closes

  • SO just stay not to move whilst in panic? Highly unlikely.

  • Or get a knife and cut your self out lol

  • or just carrie a lawn mower :)

  • That comment is the sort of thing dwight from the office would say.

  • its not a mosquito its a mosquito hawk they look like giant mosquitos but they eat them

  • hmmm, thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

  • @ummmkewler its a cranefly

  • @ummmkewler actually its a hawk mosquito......not mosquito hawk

  • @ummmkewler That Is A Fish Fly, They Only Live A Day :P A Mosquito Hawk I Think You Are Talking About Are Like, Two Hands In Length. They Are VERY Sensative But Are Very Rare. One Got Suck In My Bathroom Before So We Put It In A Container And It's Legs Started To Fall Off, It Had 4 Left When We Let It Go :l

  • @Frogzisdabitch mosquito hawks are index finger size they are everywhere near me

  • @ummmkewler Then What Was That Huge Mosquito Thing In My House D:

  • @Frogzisdabitch mutant mosquito or an abnormality personally id guess the first one

  • @ummmkewler They actually don't eat mosquitos, and they're called crane flys.

  • @ummmkewler Who cares?

  • put a dollar in it's mouth when it shuts u can slide it right out its funny

  • hmm, thats interesting

  • its recommended you don't make there mouths shut with nothing in them as it can kill them if done enough

  • who would give you a negative on that comment?..thats just silly.

  • i agree, what i said was true

  • I am ashamed to say i saw one here in Japan..and i put a pencil in one to se it if it would really close...and of course it did..so i did it a bunch of times ..finally my girl says youre probably hurting it...not thinking that he could EVER be right about anything...i smirked it off...but i have been watching some vids and reading..and since it emits an enzyme after it thinks it has a bug...it expects to eat..and it may use it up...and not be able to digest something later....so yeah.

  • don't worry, the more heads the plant has, the less likely it will die from catching nothing. I accidently set my Grandmas one of once by getting my hair in it. It made it all sticky.

  • Also, a trap can only close a certain number of time before rotting off and having a new one grown, b/c when the trap close its actually growing rapidly as well and one trap can have this down about 4 times before needing to be replaced.

  • Really? Very cool to know. I had one that every one in the dorm room, while I was back in Chicago one weekend, fed it and all the pods closed. S/he didn'thave any more pods and just before s/he died I new pod showed up but never reached maturity and it (a baby, my baby) died. That's good information to know. However, i vowed my next one will NOT be fed. S/he can catch his her own food!!

  • It also takes too much energy wasted w/out having anything caught in it the energy is wasted and the plant can die from stress.

  • thanks...as i had mentioned, im sorry, and i wont do it again cuz i didnt know any better.

  • @slgnss Will a five work? Or does it have to be a dollar?

I just got one today and want to try that, but don't want to wait to go to the bank tomorrow. :(

  • @slgnss thats mean

  • @slgnss that weakens it.

  • Well plants respond to music not because they hear it, but because of the soundwaves which the plants feel. Trap will stay shut until flytrap is ready to feed again.

  • wow, that's cool!

  • Having owned flytraps I can say with some certainty that a bug that large would have had to be put there by the owner of the plant.

  • You own one?

Is there a way to know if the fly trap is over fed, or does it just get bigger without any health problems to the plant?

(Also do flytraps grow better to music? Maybe the soundtrack to "Little Shop of Horrors"?)

  • I didn't put it in there. I put the plant outside for a few hours because I noticed I didn't have a lot of insects hanging out inside the house. I went out to check on it, and that was caught in there, I eas surprised myself! That's why I had to do the footage.

  • i want one tose so i can put it in my sis kitchen so they can trap cockroach

  • not a bad idea, but roach colonies usually number in the hundreds or thousands, so it would serve no purpose other than the satisfaction of those little bastards biting the dust one by one.

  • i noe lol anywise i still want to buy this flytrap 4 my sis Bday

  • lmao..for her birthday?

  • i live in minnesota could i have one one of these live in my house? i had one before but it said it needs to be kept humid and wet... could i just water it offen?

  • It doen't need to be humid but it need to wet a little just don't let the soil dry out.

  • thats a crane fly.. you can get em around lights? at night ? lol

  • where do you get these

  • mess with its genes, make it 2m tall and feed it a pig.

  • :)))) great one!!

  • haha thanks!

  • @Carlsarv that would be sick ass hell lol i would pay to watch it feed hahaah

  • @Carlsarv i love you.

  • @JerryAshotyan Haha ^^

  • Here is a cool experiment for people living in the Netherlands. Grow this plant next to a weed plant (since it's legal here). The Dionaea Muscipula (Venus FT) plant will become much, much bigger (size of your hand) by some chemical reaction I guess.. But don't forget to use distilled or rain water.

  • cool

  • 6 hours sunlight, 1/2 peat 1/2 perlite soil, distilled water. Dormant during winter no temps below 15 degrees. NO TERRARIUM. how to grow one.

  • hi

you vft owners should join the flytrapcare . com community. we can answer all your questions and help you care properly for your vft!! we also have a great section of other Carnivorous Plants.

  • Thisis great! Expertvillage has SHITTY AS Videos so dont watch them

  • It's a crain fly.. D:

  • Thank you so much for saying this, I live where there are a lot of crain flies and it seems to me that everyone calls them giant mosquitos. Its ridiculous.

  • Lol. :P

  • I once had a venus fly trap named Kermit. We tried to put him in a bigger pot, but we didn't compact the soil enough and his roots rotted. Dangit, I loved Kermit, he ate all of the fruit flies in our kitchen

  • thats great, I think Kermit is an awesome name for a Venus FlyTrap!!!

  • I'm gonna get one and name it Zetsu. :3

  • Haha~ are you going to paint one half white and the other black?

  • my Flytrap is named Anus lol :D

  • Really now? xD

  • Yea =D

  • Haha. Well, I haven't been able to feed mine for like 2 months. ._. I can't find any bugs..It's horrible..There's like..No bugs around. D:

  • Mine is getting alot of food at the moment :D 100000's of flys everywhere :P

  • You talking to a bug that's crawling up your flytrap: C'mon now, crawl up my anus! :D

  • haha xD!!! good one :D

  • roflmao

  • mine is called trapper from mash

  • are venus fly traps conscious beings?

  • I don't think so, It's a carnivorous plant. I think it's really freaky. thanks for the comment and for watching@

  • No. They do not have brains and you can't really have a conscience without a brain.

  • i read carnivorous plants for about a year a i really want all of the plants

  • that's not a mosquito its probably Tipula oleracea. It just resembles a mosquito but it cant bite you.

oh and a nice plant u've got there =)

  • thats good, cuz I hate mosquitos. Tipula Oleracea, huh? cool!

  • I want one!

    Fer

  • hah fail

  • hahaha..Tessie this is my favourite!!! 5 stars for amazing close up :))

  • Thats a freaky plant. So surreal.

    Gar

  • WOW!! Just like Sarlaac in Star Wars!! Very Cool Tessie thanks for posting it! Did you name it??? How about Audrey 3?

  • o crap scary! wherd u get those plants i wont one! dont they have like sencers so they know somthing iz in there and then they trap them? whats the point is it like food 4 them? kool video!

  • Yes, they eat insects only. They have little hairs inside their mouths that feel when something lands in them. When this happens, the mouths close and trap the insect. They don't eat the whole thing, they hold on to it, absorbing the nutrients from the insect, and then release it, but it's dead by then.

I got it at the grocery store!

  • kool! thats one cool plant!! ima get one! mauhahaha!

  • Cool video. That is awesome to watch.

  • If I could give this ten stars I would! Totally awesome!

  • Awesome, how big do they grow?

all im saying is be careful!!

you may check on it one day and see Mr Capo hanging out of it lol.

    : )

    great editing!!

  • Thats really cool! I cant believe how a plant can move like that and eat bugs. Great vid Panty! PEace

  • Lasts a lot longer than flyspray :D

  • cool, I love venus flytraps. :) Great footage.

  • Yayyyy, one less mosquito in this world to bit me!!!

  • make that bite

  • Wow, those are amazing to watch! I hope the plants will grow larger and you document them after a few bug meals!

  • I love carnivorous plants!
