windowsvista5472 you just made some really uninformed and general statements. Please stop before you humiliate yourself. I hope you don't think that everything that has graphics runs on opengl. Plus, other operating systems such as linux weren't built so much for entertainment. But uh, freaxxx, it would be hard to tell what hardware they used. The only thing that looks really demanding is the textures.
Well obviously it is supported my most hardware now. I wasn't arguing about is being used or not, that guy was making it sound like every game uses openGL, and they magically work in linux and windows. Even though he said "oh yeah, the reason mac os x and linux doesn't support games because they are written for windows." Contradicting himself now? hah.
"Even though he said "oh yeah, the reason mac os x and linux doesn't support games because they are written for windows." Contradicting himself now? hah."
But OSX and Linux do support games. Games that are written for them.
It is the developers that aren't supporting OSX and Linux.
Neither Apple nor Linux users are capable of forcing developers to make anything for their platforms. On the same note, they aren't standing in any developers way.
oh yeah, the reason mac os x and linux doesn't support games because they are written for windows. id tech uses opengl so it is fairly easy to port games to macs and linux.
tudormarcu1, almost any os will run this because it uses opengl, which is available in almost every system. so linux runs games better than windows and windows machines will be more expensive than linux ones and mac os x will be the most expensive
If you're asking which OS will run games better, then it's windows. I'm not being opinionated here either, the mac can run games pretty well, but so far they cost much more and do not support all the games. I don't know that much about Linux though...I would stick with windows if you want games.
linux is kinda weird with games. for example my linux runs doom3 way faster and more stable than my windows, but quake4 (which yould expected to be fairly the same) doesn't even install. technically the mac is a little stronger than a windows PC, but it lacks suport by the gaming companies. but watching the process one can see: both, mac an linux get more support for more games day after day.
seeing as it runs on all, it boils down to stability, so i guess osx would run it more stable than windows, and ps3 and xbox 360, being a closed platform, should run it flawless. for performance though, PC windows is the way to go if you don't have a monster Mac Pro. :)
it'll run the most stable on linux, fastest on mac osx, an for linux: you'll never know before you tried. since linux has no standarts or schemes the programmers can orient their work on, little changes in hard- or software configuration can make it run anywhere between fucking fast to not-starting.
120K pixel textures.... Wow.

I believe the engine scales to 4 cores efficiently.

Unlimited use of textures, it sounds almost too good to be true.

Open GL is supported by most graphics Hardware.
Plus, this game is OpenGL, which is a good thing.

Question.
Which OS will run it better, OSX, Windows, or Linux?
caseybritton 4 years ago
Supposedly the engine will run equally well on everything.
