Fantastic work from, she has lovely confidence that Chinese gymnasts today seem to lack (with the exception of Deng Linlin). Wonderful touches, indeed.
They way she moves on the beam, as though she is on the floor..Such beautiful line, so fluid... Shawn is all tricks and little grace. Yang Yilin does both..
I love the little flourishes in her arm movements after she completes each element. It's so graceful and makes her movement look so precise and polished.
Personally I preferred Yang Yilin's grace over Nastia on balance beam despite Yang has more wobbles, but nobody can match Nastia for the full turn with leg at horizontal.
I used to be distracted by the other Chinese gymnasts because they did a wonderful job in team finals. But after seeing this I'm loving Yang Yilin more. She's more well rounded in skills and really elegant with that slim body figure and smile and to some degree is rather down to earth. Look how she appears on the beam and every act she does- so classy and elegant! Yang is such a valuable athlete, possibly the best China has for now. She'll go far in her career, I'm certain of this.
I didn't say Shawn hasn't a high level of skills, but I still dont like her, that's all... and you arent better! Wanting Nastias career to end with a tragic fall! You can't deny Nastias high level of skills either! Especially her bars routine!^^
I would agree with you wholeheartedly, except for the fact that Nastia was the best performer THAT NIGHT. She was cleaner than anyone else with good difficulty. Yilin had some extremely deep landing in FX, and Yuyuan, let's face it, fell - there is no way she could have medaled. Shawn isn't my favourite gymnast either, but she was cleaner than Yuyuan, and Ksenia just doesn't have the difficulty. So my ranking for that night would be 1) Nastia 2) Yilin 3) Shawn.
That's true, but I just posted my opinion how I would have liked the ranking to be! I LOVE Yilin and so i wanted her to win, but Nastia was close to her and I just enjoy watchingYuyuan orKsenia so I wanted theseGymnasts to medal! It didnt depend on their performence in the final, so I dont say Yuyuan should have medaled with that performence on vault and floor! It's just that I had wanted her to medal!^^ But I agrre with you too! 0,100 points more for Yilin and your ranking would be true
personally, i think the only reason people think nastia have great form is because she is long and lean, but letese be honest, shes not that clean on bars. Her leg splitting and her dismounts drivevs me nuts, in my opnion i think nastia is pretty overated.
I see your point. But there's no doubting Nastia was best that night. Everyone goes crazy about her crossed legs on her twists, but that's only a 0.1, whereas Yilin's double pike on floor is a solid 0.3-0.5 for the deep landing plus 0.1-0.3 for the uncontrolled lunge. Nastia's bent knees past the low bar bug me, since I KNOW she can do it right. But remember, form =/= execution! One can have great form and bad execution (see Ivana Hong) or have great execution but bad form (see Nastia).
I saw the british commentors after beijing and when they analysed nastia's landings everybody noted she used to bounce in those landings which can be deducted as well.
@nodaybuttoday01 i disagree... shaun has much more difficulty than yilin not saying yilin isnt good she is good but i thought that everyone that night got what they diserved.
@ellovestumbling332 Shawn wasn't even close to completing her Amanar. The judges gave her a gift. Her 6.5 A score for VT should have really been a 5.8 with a major lack of precision deduction. She's lucky she didn't drop down to 4th let alone 2nd.
@ellovestumbling332 Plus Shawn didn't even have more difficulty than YYL... YYL definitely had higher A scores than Nastia, and YYL's bars are eons ahead of SJ's.
@nodaybuttoday01 Jiang actually had the highest in the entire AA. I was quite surprised when I found out. I thought it would be Yang. Or maybe Semenova, Johnson, or Liukin.

Shawn didn't deserve a medal at all in the AA. She was all difficulty and no choreography. And I don't think Nastia deserved a medal either, she had choreography, but it was just a bunch of poses. Here's my rankings:
Wow, Nistor? Really? She was probably the most overscored gymnast of this last quad. She had terrible form issues all across the board. I like her choreo on floor but she had no chance whatsoever of medaling at the Olympics. Shawn may have no choreography but does reasonably well at what she does, and Nastia hit every event that night. Why don't either of them deserve medals, especially since choreography isn't a huge part of the code?
@ellovestumbling332 And Nastia can't compete with the chinese clean form and good technic. Judges don't score the grace but the technic and the forms. How come Nastia got first ? Because a lot of people got screwed just to give it to her.
@Missnewyork28 Well, the Chinese have terrible swing, kips, and transitions on bars, as well as very weak floor routines (with the exception of Cheng Fei). Nastia had the best combination of grace, power, flexibility, and form on this night. It's been two-and-a-half years, get over it already.
@QueenieQue Blablabla always the same. Nastia is graceful because she has good body lines. If she was short and less thin, neither the NBC trio or people would find her fabulous. She has no power, she is not that flexible, and she is not that graceful. Chinese are actually the best bar workers, they have kips for sure but it's still much more beautiful than Nastia sloppy legs and cowboyed dismount.
@Missnewyork28 Like I said, it's not just kips, the Chinese really struggle with swing and transitions, too. It makes the entire routine look painfully struggled, which to me is not enjoyable to watch. IN MY OPINION, I would rather watch a routine with a few form errors that flows really smoothly (i.e., Khorkina) than watch a routine with impeccable form that has no swing whatsoever. You're free to disagree with me, but it gets tiring arguing on Youtube.
@QueenieQue I'll get over it once other people get over Gutsu beating Miller. Gutsu was better. People don't get over things easily. I still am super upset about Yang Yun not getting silver in 2000 on bars and Kui Yuanyuan not getting gold in 1997 on beam. Point is, 2 and a half years isn't a long time.
@imshoppaholic Not true. Lots of people have gotten fed up with the Chinese bars, and the horrid lack of choreography on beam. Yilin wasn't so bad, but others on her team were. It's time to bury the hatchet, though.
@alexzjay thats just rude to want someone to fall with a career ending fall... i want that for most of these underage chinese gymnasts but i am not saying anything
and she's so graceful on the beam.. and never fell even once during qualifications, team finals, AA AND event finals!
