Just got this album for my birthday yesterday. One The Best Gifts I've Gotten!!! The only problem I have with this album is that I can't get past this track with out repeating it a few hundred times or so since it's not 8-10 minutes. :D
If you take a step back from the history of Opeth, this album is of top quality. I'm sure many bands would kill to be able to produce such music. On the other hand...Somehow I feel that if the album resembled more the sort of Blackwater Park/Ghost Reveries, I'd be more happy to hear it...
@ArvanitisWarrior I figure it's about time they moved on. I mean, they've essentially been playing the same thing since Still Life. And while Ghost Reveries was a pretty damn awesome album (almost as good as My Arms.. imo), it still felt like they were a bit stuck in the routine, know what I mean? I think this album is definately a step in the right direction.
luckly for me, I enjoy a wide range of music. and i have found opeth to be the most creative progressive ( in the right manner) authentic metal, rock n roll of my day. havin no growl vocals isnt the in of the world. this album still shows their talent. and most importantly.. the OPETH SOUND!!
This song is absolutely amazing! especially the last minute and a half his soaring gals and voice are crazy!!! Was never into Opeth due to the death metal vocals which is fine but he has such a great voice I'm glad they made an album like this, shows their true potential diversity and skill. These guys are all sick players and I hope they continue on this road. I'll probably get backlash from hardcore Opeth fans, but it's just my personal preference, to each their own.
@Illuminatus1978 You'll only get backlash by the flake fans. Anyone whos really into Opeth are into what they do, not what genre they're playing. By fate i got introduced to them when a friend played Blackwater Park in 2003. I was kinda laughing at the growling, but I noticed they masterfully fused death metal with jazzy/harmonic tones. It's because of bands like them, I've widen my ears to more easy going lounge beats as well as other indie groups. Just by liking them, you have good taste :D
My favorite on the album

Yeah, I'll have to agree...To me is the most Opeth tune on the CD.

Great song, and along with Nepenthe, is the best on the album, in my not-so-humble opinion.

0:35 sounds like it could be in one of the first 3 Spyro soundtracks.

@lethalcurrent This is prog rock at it's finest.

@lethalcurrent I find this hilarious, all of the TR00 Metal fans are seeing this as a worse sin than Saint Anger.
Meanwhile all of the Prog/jazz forums I frequent see this as being better than the second coming of Jesus.
