Remember that line in the show when the reporter says to Grace's mother, "There are pictures of you committing the crime!"
And she simply says sacarcastically, "Please." That was pretty amazing prediction back then, as pictures couldn't be so easily faked. Now you have people who can fake all kinds of things in their basement using cheap programs.
This series deals a lot with scientology. As for the soundtrack, compare the Wild Palms-theme with the composition Clouds (Nuages) by french composer Claude Debussy. You´ll be astonished...
Wild Palms was one of the best and most underrated mini-series (or series for that matter) that has ever been aired. Way ahead of its time and story being too brilliant for most critics to like and too complicated to short-attention-span mass to follow...pure jadarite you don´t see on TV anymore...
Undoubtedly one of the most flawless bits of soundtrack usage I have ever seen. I have always remembered this, the pause on the beach and the cry of his son's name...perfect, absolutely perfect.
Totally agree. "House of the Rising Sun" has been used in a number of movies and TV shows, but I always remember the anguished cry of "Chickie!" whenever I hear this song.
I agree totally, this song is why i remembered the movie all these years and have been searching for it ever since. thanks to the guy who posted this clip!!!!
i think he means, since it was a network tv miniseries, the writing style has the elements of a soap opera, if only for the sake of commercial time, and getting the viewer to watch all 4 nights the story aired.
I'm from France and i like Wild Palms. But the dvd-box is in Zone 1...I hope that the dvd-box will in Zone 2. (Sorry for my english...^^).
But in the dvd-box in Zone 1, there is French language ? I like Original Version but in the dvd-box in Zone 1 i believe there is not french-subtitles...
Author Bruce Wagner is probably connected to Illuminati through birth or marriage, and apparently conceived this story as a fantasy about what would happen if some Illuminati "bloodlines" decided to use Illuminati techniques to oppose the totalitarian goals of their fellows.

Kathryn Bigelow directed this episode, by the way. (The hotly hot director who won the Oscar this year.)

I have never forgotten this scene since the first time I saw it. It has stood out as a great combination of music and story telling.

Kidnapped by the sinister Fathers. If you can track down a copy (it's available on DVD) I'd highly recommend watching.

@KakunoBuddha
We ordered it off of Ebay awhile back. Nice professional 2 disc copy, still in the wrapper. :-D
Great film. Back from before Oliver Stone sold out. (Assuming of course he wasn't always sold out.)

travis082185 4 years ago
You assume correctly.
KakunoBuddha 4 years ago
Exactly. It's a mix of sci-fi and soap opera.

Dude! He slit his own fucking throat! That's some crazy shit.

Another example is when a mother punches her daughter in the belly, and calls her "weak dog" - perhaps the ultimate insult among Illuminati.
JestRight 4 years ago
For example, he casually shows everyone as a dead shot with a submachine gun. Illuminati kids get gun training, and are expected to excel.

This is a fantastic post, THANK YOU. Perhaps the most emotionally moving scene in an incredible TV series. Yes, a great choice of music.

Wish I could help, I don't know much about obtaining Region 2 DVDs. It's a little too obscure to find a torrent, either.
