I use a small hose stuck in the airlock hole. I once accidentally pushed the hose too far (it went down into the beer) and left it in the basement. sure enough, the gas couldn't get out and i pretty much turned my bucket into a keg with an open hose! Luckily the hose was only a half inch, so not too much came out.

Nice, I love it when my high OG brews have a blowoff tube and the fermentation takes off strong with big bursts. Hope it finished out well!

My blow-offs with high gravity beers do the same thing...I have a similar setup with a carboy cap and a 1/2" tube. I'm wondering if a larger tube would make the same thing happen, or spread the bubbles out a bit more.
