The Caucasian countries belong to the Caucasus only. They are somewhere in between Europe and the Middle East culturally, politically, and geographically ... but they are not European. Geographically they are too far from Europe. Racially they are related to Iranians.
I know that Armenians feel more connected to European countries than to Middle Eastern countries, but they're still not European. I consider them almost European.

Armenia looks to the west.It has surely got cultural facts that are related to the Middle-East, like Iran as you said, but its relationships from the ancient times had to do with nations like Russia and Greece, which brought european "air" to Armenia.

The Soviet euro. border was in fact that one of the Caucasian republics. Caucasus isn't Middle-East. Ur proximity theory made me laf.. Spain just a few miles away from Africa so? Anyway, Armenia & Georgia considered as Euro. countries by the EU, those are christian ones and have always had very close ties -cultural, historical etc with Europe.

Europe is not really a continent. It is a section of the Eurasian continent. So Europe's border is completely arbitrary and there several different opinions. In my opinion the Caucasus region is its own distinct region separate from Europe and the Mid East.
