The "PIC" is the intertwining of profit motives with correctional facilities as embodied by obscenely high rates of incarceration, prison labor contractors, the privatization of prisons, etc. The Act became a tool of this complex, and we must fight this entrenched system in order to gain back our civil rights.

This bill was presented shortly after 911 and passed in 33 days from 9/11 which means it was written prior to 9/11 and never read prior to signing into law.

Well as far as I know there are no Libertarians in our congress so that point is moot and I need no correction. I agree that the Libertarian Party in general was not for the patriot act, I should of excluded them from that statement. Although, a good number of you supported the war. I support third parties so I'll refrain from calling out the Libritarians until I know more about them. I'm Independent and voted for Nader so I have little in common with either of the three parties.

Nothing really has changed about the Patriot Act. The fact is it's been reported Obama will keep 3 parts to the Patriot Act. I can't remember which specific parts, but they involve letting Obama Continue to have authority for things like unauthorized wiretap. 3 parts which you'd really hoped Obama would've been against.

Now local authorities are allowed to use secret spies in the most trivial of suspected infringements of the law such as overfilling your trashcan repeatedly or lying about your home address in order to get your kids into a good school.

The "PIC" is the intertwining of profit motives with correctional facilities as embodied by obscenely high rates of incarceration, prison labor contractors, the privatization of prisons, etc. The Act became a tool of this complex, and we must fight this entrenched system in order to gain back our civil rights.

4th amendment? Try 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10... I am not the sharpest tool in the shed and it is very clear to me that the Patriot Act violates 6 amendments. This bill was presented shortly after 911 and passed in 33 days from 9/11 which means it was written prior to 9/11 and never read prior to signing into law.
They have been working on health care reform since 1943...

Little correction there: the libertarian party of the us of a never supported the patriot act... In fact, they oppose it and actually ask a reform on the patriot act and other Domestic Intelligence Authorities... In fact, on this point, they seem to agree with the ACLU (on this point).They also ask McCain "what if fucking wrong with habeas corpus?" (that off microphone, when it is on it is more like "what is so wrong with that").

Well as far as I know there are no Libertarians in our congress so that point is moot and I need no correction. I agree that the Libertarian Party in general was not for the patriot act, I should of excluded them from that statement. Although, a good number of you supported the war. I support third parties so I'll refrain from calling out the Libritarians until I know more about them. I'm Independent and voted for Nader so I have little in common with either of the three parties.

I'm having more respect for the Libertarian party everyday. I'm forced to listen to AM talk radio at work, and it's 3 hours of Beck, 1 hour local, then 5 hours of Hannity and some Michael guy. All three of these guys had callers from the Libritarian party this week and each one was against the wars, and each one got an earful from these neo-cons about how wrong they were. The "Patriot Act" is the worst piece of legislation probably in the history of the United States. It's a travesty of Orwellian double speak, preaching safety and security while being used for anything but national security or counter terrorism, including spying on political opponents and journalists.

ok,why is this news ?? where has congress been since Oct 26, 2001 ? it is common knowledge that the vast majority of cases these supposed terrorist laws were used in non-terrorist cases.. for the Bush administration to have drafted this massive redrawing of the US legal codes in the time limit from Sept 11-Oct 26th when he signed it would require a huge staff.. this was in the works long before 9/11.. when it was renewed in 2006 the civil liberty concerns were ignored again
