  • What kinda mpg you get I am about to buy a 93 f350 7.3idi

  • ozzy

  • Cold start? its 30! thats not COLD!

    Nice truck though

  • 6030diesel... The ford turbos dont suck, they are as good ad any turbo out there. They are designed to only make 10 to 12 lbs of boost because the motors arent designed handle an excessive amount of boost. If you turn the fuel to the idi's they burn valves and blow head gaskets, if you run them like they were intended they are great motors, not super powerful, but reliable

  • an OK start up

  • johnboggs21 has it right. It has had the downpipe replaced, fuel cranked, and wastegate disconnected. It is safe to say that i am making much more power than a stock first gen powerstroke.

  • @sootman73 disconnecting the wastegate? do tell I got a factory turbo i wanna make more power , i got a stock downpipe too

  • the stock ford downpipe and outlet housing were pretty shitty. They didnt want the IDI to make more power than the upcoming powerstroke.

  • idis ever came with stock turbo

  • yes it did starting in 93

  • they did, but u only got 30lbft extra torque and 5 extra bhp according to the figures from ford!

I believe some other types of turbo were fitted as a sort of almost ford fitment.

  • the ford turbo was put on to make them sell better but didnt add much power because ford still wanted their 460 to be the big seller and if the diesel had more power than the 460 and more fuel milage why would anyone want a 460 thats the reason fords turbos sucked

  • @6030diesel no, they detuned the injection pump and put smaller injectors because if they left everything stock and threw the turbo on the truck it would make almost the same or more than the amount of power the first gen 7.3 powerstroke made. They didn't want the old engine to be able to compete with the new

  • @2strokedetroit thats not what they did. look close, the turbo IDI's and the non turbo IDI injector part numbers are the same, the ips are turned up a tad more on the turbo ones to light the turbo. the factory turbo however was very large and laggy, and didnt flow very well. put on a banks turbo, or a ATS performance turbo, and its a totally different animal. ive seen this all first hand.

  • @6030diesel didnt ford use ATS turbos??

  • @2strokedetroit yea, thats why i said ATS PERFORMANCE turbo. ford paid ATS to supply them with a shitty turbo like i said, to keep the 7.3 IDI behind the 460 gas sucker, other wise the 460 wouldnt sell. they didnt give 2 shits about the powerstroke 7.3 as that had quite a bit more power than the 7.3 IDI turbo did.

  • @6030diesel From my expierience when people crank these up with turbos they can't handle the additonal power.

  • @2strokedetroit there were a few 6.9 IDIs ( same as a 7.3 just hasnt been bored out yet) around 1000 horsepower back in the 90's. there was a bunch done to em though. one 7.3 IDI i saw with a bigger turbo, bigger pump, bigger sticks (injectors) run around 350 horsepower on the rear wheels, cant remember the torque though.

  • @6030diesel wow, that is impressive. I might end up with a 7.3 powerstroke for 1500 bucks (truck and all) and I'd like to squeeze 300hp out of her

  • @2strokedetroit gonna need a larger injection pump with .33 plungers at least to fuel that much power.

  • @6030diesel you mean HPOP? I've been looking at stealth HPOP's and Stage 2 injectors that flow 160cc's but the injectors alone for a set of 8 are 1100 bucks, reman.

  • @2strokedetroit no, bigger injectors wont do squat till you get a bigger injection pump.

  • @6030diesel You know I am talkin powerstroke right? The injectors use oil to actuate them, the stealth HPOP will flow 100% more oil to feed the new injectors. Powerstrokes don't have injection pumps.

  • @2strokedetroit no i totally missed that in your one comment sorry lol. yea i know how them 7.3 and 6.0 injectors work, HUEI system (hydraulic unit electronic injection).
