Always loved this song. I always forget about it too. Every so often it springs to mind and i put it on and wow..... it brings a nice bit of clarity to things.
Nice vid and always loved that song and most of their material I've ever heard. They really are that quirky iconic indie band hovering on the periphary that you always dreamed of. Stadiums, schmadiums, just go to their gigs. Occasionally too cosy for some apparently but ESP obviously just love making music, including this incredibly hooky little classic...sorry JohnSmith37 but what is so 'deceiving' about that? Do you think they're trying to trick you into buying a great song?
What were NME thinking with their recent album review (of course in the same issue a Sony-BMG band gets elevated onto a pedestal) Just makes me think certain strings may have been pulled. You can't choose your label, they choose you and thank god Truck & Better Looking have good taste (unlike the NME)
I often wonder what would have happened if they hadn't been dropped, would they have full page adverts in NME and be playing stadiums by now. Who knows but they mean as much as ever to their fans.
I don't think any band can make a whole album everyone will love, it's impossible. Their latest album was recorded as quickly as possible for no money and as one DJ said, they've achieved a big production sound without a similar budget. ESP are loved by many and often harshly judged by others. People say they play standard British pop as if that doesn't mean anything but if their music means something to you that's all that matters.
I started off being a fan of ESP because of Tom's drumming, especially in this video. Strange thing is now I'm more a fan of his guitar playing (in Brakes too)

"The American Adventures" was such an awesome album but what they did lately ( incl. that song ) is really deceiving. :(

Which song? The American Adventure?
I like No Need To Be Downhearted; all their albums are very good.
