  • I spoke with Jesse Mae Robinson many years ago, when I was working on my demo. She told me that she had given Johnny the credits for some minor changes to the lyric. Boy they were far from minor. It is one of the sweetest songs I know. I still sing it.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I became a fan of Johnny many decades ago on my own. My mother never cared for him much. I have always been out of step with my taste in music. There isn't a song that he can't sing well. Thanks. This song really made my day..

  • @whisperofwind1 You're welcome. I'm so happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by. You have great taste. : )

  • @whisperofwind1 Johnny Mathis and Karen Carpenter are all I need for the rest of my life.

  • Perfect..just perfection....just when I think I have heard the most beautiful song...byJohnny..I find another one...all are ..just perfect.. TY

  • Johnny always works with winners. Jessie Mae Robinson (10-1919 to 10-1966) was an African-American songwriter who wrote popular songs for many blues and R & B singers. In 1953 she became the first female African-American member of the American Society Of Composers, Authors And Publishers (ASCAP) to have three songs in the Lucky Strike Hit Parade at the same time. They were "I Went To Your Wedding" by Patti Page, "Keep It A Secret" by Jo Stafford and "Just A Poor Bachelor" by Franie Laine.

  • Sends chills through me......my mum got me into Johnny, she loves him, i have grown up listening to him and i always take a moment each week to sit quietly and play his wonderful songs.......they relax me and take me back to when i was a little girl.

  • @SuzieEyes Thanks for coming by and sharing. He does attract from generation to generation.

  • I got this cd for my parents, just for Yellow Roses on her Gown as their record player broke! Nice song, beautiful voice x

  • I would like to dedicate this song to the lovely lady who has captivated my heart

  • Hi Loyd....I hope you're not working too hard. Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad he could help you relax a bit.

  • As a big Mathis fan i don't ever recall him doing a bad song. There are so many favorites of mine that it would be hard for me to choose. Your songs are very well put together by him.

  • Thank you. I appreciate your comment very much.

  • The Mrs. Robinson behind this song is Jessie Mae Robinson, also responsible for such songs as Wanda Jackson's rockabilly classic "Let's Have a Party" and Patti Page's "I Went to Your Wedding."

  • Thank you so much. Of course, I went and double-checked but now I can put her full name up top. Very kind of you to come by and give this woman credit for a beautiful song. Thanks, again.

  • Sorry - lost a msg I was trying to send right in the middle! Angela, have you thought about "When I Am With You" for a video? I have it on one of my albums and it is so lovely. What a gift you have! Thank you for sharing.

  • You know I don't know why I haven't made a video of that song. It's one of my top 10 favorite JM songs. Thank you, I willl do that one in a few weeks. I'll try anyway.

Thank you for the nice words too. : )

  • What a lovely labor of love with these videos! Well done, Angela. Thank you. It's an awesome feeling for me to know what it truly means to say "my heart sings". And it does - for the one I love.

  • Thank you. What a lovely comment.

The one you love is a lucky person. : )

  • Hi, Have just grabbed this song, beautiful.

I am still looking for the other one.....

    Kindest regards, Elli x

  • What song are you looking for?

  • Just a second note. As im listening to this video, I just realized it must be an alternate take, because the phrasing is totally different from any version that I have.

  • Many of JM's song are repeated on CDs. Redone. I have a few versions of songs that are like that. For example: I have a version of "It Could Happen to You" in my videos that is different than others have. My version is an LP version. Different than a CD version of the song I'm talking about now.

  • True, I also have an alternate take of "Can't Get Out Of This Mood". Back to this alternate take on "I Look At You" At 2:02 where he sings - sweet embrace - I can just hear Randy from American Idol, saying Doggggg, that was just a little pitchy...lol.

  • The story as I heard it on Johnny's name being added to the song writing credits was, the song writer was in the studio and was asked to come up with a song fast. So she penned this one really quick, but got stuck for one line, which Johnny offered up, she completed writing the song and to Johnny's surprise, she had added his name as a song writing credit.

  • I don't know the story. My father used to say, believe none of what you read and half of what you see. LOL! It must have been one heck of a one liner for her to give him half credit for the song and all of the residuals that go with it.

  • Beautiful song. The lyrics is absolutely perfect. The voice gets you in the heart.

JM you are one great artist of our time!!

  • Thanks for coming by and commenting. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. He really is the best of the best.

    Angela

  • One of my all-time favourites of Johnny's recordings. I could listen to this over and over ... it really touches my heart too.

  • I know what you mean. I've been listening to him for 50 years and I never get tired of hearing him. Thanks for coming by and commenting.

  • NIce video. One of my top 5 Johhny Mathis songs. "I long to know...!" Ah.....

  • WONDERFUL

    MUSIC

    AND

    VOICE

    *****TANKS

  • this is a nice calm song

  • I think the lyrics are just beauiful too. Thank yo so much for stopping by and commenting.

  • Thank you for posting this- it's beautiful and the pictures add, not detract, from it. I've searched many times for songs that Johnny may have written-but never found one-he's often called a singer/songwriter- . Great.

  • So far, this is the only song that he's sung I've found that he also had a part in writing. If I find any others, I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks for the comment on the video too. I was worried it may have been distracting. What a relief. Thank you.
