In Canada, if you "accidentally" pull the emergency e-prib pin, (or just do it for sh*ts and giggles) it will cost you $10,000.00 to do so as that is the fine you will be levied with for doing it without it actually being an emergency.
Your watch must be 13 minutes fast, because you do know you can only test an ELT within the first five minutes of any hour, and for only three sweeps during the test. Right? lol.
ha sanyone actually pulled the antenna hehehehe? id love to see that when your down the pub... "yeah right, thats not a real beacon. No ones gona rescue you" OH MY GOD... theres a Sea King out the front circling the car park LOL LOL LOL
@myztikal47 per breitling, hte cost of rescue, and half retail of watch, so you COULD be right. specially if aircraft are used to rescue a faker lol. eould love to see someone actually do it. or read about it and see what thefine was. has to be Übersteep
If you google "breitling emergency rescue cost" it brings you to a cigarafficionados page that explains a bit.
The fine from the FAA is $100k for a false emergency, so that + the cost of the false rescue itself = shouldn't try it unless you're rich and bored as hell!
@bigtruckseriesreview that is a tough call. beacon be gone, id choose the omega. that looks to bea nice wearing watch. a tad more slendeder than the breitling. and just as good. both about the same price to be honest
Picked one up for $2,700 OTD at Bailey Banks & Biddle store closing. Nice watch, good conversation piece. I'm not a pilot but I play one when it comes to my timepieces. . . apparently. Call me a poser, I love the watch.
hey i have this kind of watch man it cost me like 15,000 USD lol very expensive but worth it so i suggest this watch is 5/6 :) Good JOb Mate for posting this video
Good luck using that during an emergency in the future, 121.5MHz is dead and everyone is switching to 406MHz for satellite tracking. 121.5 is already completely phased out and unmonitored in many countries.
Good luck trying to dial in 406Mhz on your aircraft radio...121.5 is still used as guard freq in aviation. The Breitling's 121.5 transmitter was NEVER strong enough to be received by satellite to begin with. Also,406 beacons simultaneously transmit on 121.5 so SAR crews can home in on it if need be,as a redundant feature. The Emergency was never intended to be a primary distress beacon, only to supplement the aircraft's ELT.
That's probably the only reason the Breitling Emergency is useful, i.e. as a secondary beacon when someone has to leave the crash site but unable to remove the ELT. I can't really think of this happening except maybe in a ditching and the survivors are drifting away in the ocean currents.
However It still doesn't make much sense to have someone rely on a watch rather than using a proper EPIRB in an emergency . It's not that big or heavy to carry around.
If I had the money I'd get one, It wouldn't be practical for someone like me though haha. Just a cool well made watch. It would be something you would surely want with you at all times if you traveled a lot in the middle of nowhere.
I think you were supposed to run that check within the first five minutes past the hour...that's what avionics technicians do to prevent the Civil Air Patrol from mounting a search party.
No it doesnt. I dont know of an ELT that transmits a morse code after its distress signal. My plane sure doesnt do that. Plus it says right in the manual the B is for Breitling to identify to emergency personnel that the signal is from the watch.
Ah, ok, I read something else in a review somewhere through Google, but hey, if it's indeed stated in the manual, I think that overrules any review ;)
BTW, I'm seriously thinking about purchasing an emergency myself.
@rkampschoer im a search and rescuer the B DOES stand for Bretling. you are correct in saying that the morse code stands for something. the only other device that has a morse code in it is a PLB witch will transmit P once a minute to identify it as a Personal Locator Beacon.
Read your manual again buddy, your only to test until the display on the wath changes ( 1-2) seconds. the sos B is so that search and rescue know its a breitling watch. Just some freindly advice so you dont waste the battery.
4 press gently on the watch. after a short delay a sound indicating that the emergencys transmitter functions normally.
It gives no specific amount of time to test. The reason I did it in the video is so the viewers could hear the B indicating a full cycle of the transmitter.....buddy ;)
The big knob on the watch is an antenna. You pull out the antenna and the watch sends like a distress signa, in case you are on a raft in the ocean. Or if you are lost in the wilderness. It is a search and rescue function.
Cool Breitling, but I find the Navitimer a more useful piece in the cockpit. I like the e6b for IFR work. It would be great to have both... an Emergency on the other wrist just in case. I love it when the antenna is out.. It looks so Cool!!! Breitling is the best!!!!!!!!!!
In response to SuperchargedRS comment. I am a pilot as well, and I own an Emergency. I also have a few friends who have the BE. You dont have to be a pilot to own one. Its a Collectors item. Even to wear one its an amazing piece.
Bear Grillis from Man Vs Wild wears one. As well as a number of Celebrities. Thats like saying. To drive a GT500 you'll look stupid if you arnt a Race car driver.
You dont have to be a pilot, but you also dont have to be a woman to wear a thong and skirt, you just look a little odd doing it if you see what I mean Also saying Bear Grillis wears one isn't really helping your point (as he is one of the fakest people on tv lol) I am just saying it's sad when people try to pretend, it like renting a nice car to pick up dumb blonds, there is nothing wrong with it it's just pathetic and sad...but it's a free country, if you want to play pretend lol
Or you can just switch it on for the first five minutes of any UTC hour for 5 seconds and listen in 121.5 on our radio stack in your plane...and if you don't arnt a pilot you really look silly with that watch!
well if you watch the other videos on my youtube page you would know that I am a pilot....maybe that would make you less silly if you checked those out before commenting.
boooks, I think you've missed the point here. this is a standard distress tone with a punctuating 'B'in morse. this is an internationally recognised alert transmitted on 121.5mhz - these watches save lives. fool

Also the B morse code in the distress signal does NOT stand for Breitling, but has something to do with the various distress signals out there.

2. check light is on and sound is heard
3 place the emergency in its holder
