The guy was pretty good but I was hoping for some complicated examples about sketching contours i.e. when the contours are hyperbolas around a saddle point. I have an exam tomorrow and the hyperbolas are driving me mad.
A few pauses here and there, and you sound a little more interesting in lectures (more enthusiastic), but as far as youtube goes, (and the purpose of the video), you've hit the nail on the head.
Keep it up.
-the guy who laughs at south park references, MATH1231
These videos are a great supplement to the lectures. They are really helping in revising the material, keep them coming! One complaint, the paragraphs that you've taken out of the textbook are a bit hard to read on the screen. Oh, btw I'm doing MATHS1231 this semester.
You're right, Dean - the smaller font from those pics makes them a little more difficult to see. If I select "HQ" and full-screen view on my computer, then the font seems to be legible, but I understand that if you're at home then HQ can chew the download quota!
"The mathematics is not there till we put it there." (Sir Arthur Eddington, The Philosophy of Physical Science)
i saw the meaning of that quote in your lecture and i really enjoy your lectures because ,they are presented in a simple way to explain the complicate things.

Hi Showboy. There are two mics involved: onie for each channel. One mic records what I say and the other is a backup mic just in case the first mic fails.
A video can never replace the atmosphere of a live lecture, but video can do other good things, like be a resource that can be used over an over again as a revision tool, for example.
I'm sure that if there is enough demand then more subjects will have these kinds of videos. It just takes time, effort and a clear need, which can be demonstrated, for example, via CATEI comments.

z=y^2-x^2 in 3-space looks suspiciously like a pringle; those potato hyperbolic paraboloids sure make a tasty snack ,LOL.

Hi Brian - are you at Newcastle Uni? If so, then how are things there? I lived in Newcastle until I was 14 (my Dad was a Econ Prof there too)

i think the videos are pretty good, i like it when you apply the motivation behind problems, rather than just telling us what to do...
Additionally, i would like a text book, so 'MATH131' all the way.... hmmm...
thanks for the videos

Hi Farrow - I don't understand computers either!
I agree with your comment: it's important to know the *why* and not just the *how*
Good luck!
