When all the world recognizes good as good, this in itself is evil. Indeed, the hidden and the manifest give birth to each other." It then has examples of opposite things exhibiting each other, like long and short, difficult and easy, etc. I think the point is that if everything is the same, (continued in next comment)

I'm not sure, but I think Lao Tzu is alluding to the importance of diversity, as well as the fact that we need bad days to appreciate the good; we need ugliness to see beauty. This also reminds me of the Japanese concept of Wabi-sabi (not wasabi), in which beauty is seen in things that are incomplete, imperfect, or decaying. It's not quite the same as Lao Tzu's quote, but it's a similar idea.

Lao Tzu got his wisdom from the nature, as he sees the nature as his mother.There is nothing as "good and bad" concept in the nature.
