  • Honda is the best.

  • @breakdance1441 Lol.. Honda doesn't even have a reason to exist anymore.

  • @chevycrazykid wellll, come on now, i have a honda accord ex '98 and its a really great car. :D Honda is in my genes.

  • @breakdance1441 I agree older Hondas are really good cars. It seems to me they just have no inspiration to make good looking cars that perform well and impress consumers in any aspect besides reliability; and even that is going down the drain.

  • @chevycrazykid yeah, older honda versions are the best, but now when it comes to new generatioons, i dont like, there ok but nahh, i like the 2011 accords too. But im thinking of getting the new BMW 382i or the new Acura TL.

  • @breakdance1441 I'd get the 382i just because I'm more partial to German than Japanese, but that's just my bias. I don't know too much about the Acura, but the 382i has a reasonable reputation for what I know of.

  • @chevycrazykid yeah, thats what im getting for my birthday

  • @chevycrazykid yeah, thats what im getting for my birthday

  • @chevycrazykid yeah thats what im gonna get for my birthday

  • Honda has lost its mojo and everyone knows it. This is a company flailing about with no clue in sight, fumbling though evolution after evolution when they should be reinventing the proverbial wheel. Honda better step to the fore and soon with some mainstream vehicles worth talking about or they will find themselves teetering on becoming an afterthought.

  • "This car would have trouble eliciting emotion from a group of Justin Bieber fans." ahahah!

  • This car is fantastic, just bought the 2012 civic ex l

  • i find it a little ugly from the back

  • Honda took even an extra year to release this damn car and this was the outcome? rarrrrrrrrrrrr

  • I don't understand why Honda decides to just be on par and not beyond the competition. Putting a 5 speed where everybody is going at least 6? Id honda would have put the 6 speed, the Civic would have easily beat Elantra in terms of MPG.

  • I dont understand why this guy is saying 2012 civic is sucks. it has all the electronic features that others have. Did not even mention about the imid and all standard safety features

  • The more I look at it, the more I appreciate its design.... because it's really unoffensive in a way.... unlike the lines and creases in the Elantra and Focus. It doesn't scream "look at me", shame on the interior though... it looks like a mess.

  • @jsiszero Because you would want a car that just looks, "okay."

  • The back looks like first generation toyota prius

  • comsumer report just listed 2012 civic as not recommended lol

  • No hatchback again on this side of the pond.

  • Please someone tell me when is the 2012 civic coming to india ?

ive been waiting for this car a long time now and there are no better options

and i desperately need a new car .

  • honda and toyota could learn a thing or two from kia and hundai

  • Unadventurous?

  • this car also has something very appealing to new car buyers: high residual values. Sure, it might be "boring" to drive and look at, but when it comes to resale value and fuel economy, this thing delivers.

  • Never was a fan of the dustbuster inspired styling and awkward dash design. Very disappointed the new model seems to have moved sideways rather than forward. I'd rather spend less and get more with the Elantra. Better warranty and higher MPGs too. Dare I call it "sexy".

  • This civic will reward u in the long run! Great fuel economy resale value reliability etc...enough said!

  • @tepeke88 Actually, ConsumerRepots doesn't recomend this car. LOOOOL.

  • @Seadgaranovic LOL you are such a die hard honda fan boy! I know two honda fans, hondaft1234 and xoquixxoqafxo that hate the new civic, honda slacked here.

  • It is a ridiculously overpriced little Honda, $21K + tax is the price of an Accord

  • The cruze LTZ has a nice sound system and remote start but doesnt have great gas mileage like the elantra.

  • @flipfloplogic Have you checked out the new Ford Focus? You won''t be disappointed.

  • I'm considering an elantra limited but it doesn't come with a premium sound system with a subwoofer and remote start. The remote start provided for the civic is very nice and comes with multifunction capability.

  • I think the tail lights of the 2011 civics look better.. The 2012 tail lights kinda look like a Toyota Camry.. That's just me :)

  • i want a focus review

  • 21k for a civic, hmm, could have gone with base Accord for 22k

  • @kalargyi Yeah, unfortunately, they seem to have pulled a bit of a bait-and-switch with this Civic.

  • It is interesting to see that Honda and Toyota have now the same philosophy that GM, Ford and Chrysler had 5 years ago: We are not going to make cars you want to buy because of what they are, but because of who we are. This is pretty sad, yet not surprising.

  • I parked next to one yesterday and my intial perception on what i saw was 2003 camry, no big deal. Looked again and it was the 2012 civic. That clearly says something.

  • @sexyboi142

it says something to you- but not many other people. Styling is subjective and constantly changing and evolving. Funny how the last generation Hyundai Sonata looked just like the 2003-2004 Accord sedan from the rear- hence why Honda changed its Accord rear design in 2005 and 2006 to differentiate itself from the copying Hyundai.

  • @accordguy0325 Uhhh honda does a model refresh 2yrs before a redesign. I have a 2005 honda accord sedan, to me it looks nothing like a hyundai sonota from the rear. Thats clearly a poor copy. Honda im sure doens't mind copying since they too have also copied. Every car manufacture has stolen some design element from another. The current gen maxima and mercedes SLS look alike in the front. The 2012 C class coupe looks like a current gen accord coupe..honda could care less

  • Definitely a car for someone with no soul...

  • @stanbernadino The Toyota Corollaa is even worse! that said I agree, both these cars are for traditionalist and the elderly. I wouldn't touch either one.

  • 5 types of civics for 5 degrees of woman car status.

    1. The bad driver.

    2. The conformist.

    3. The "I think know know what I am doing but in reality I don't even know how many cylinders my engine has" driver.

    4. The driver with regrets.

    5. The driver who never test drove another car.

  • @SoriaListic Two types for the Hyundai Elantra a) the couldn't afford anything better b) I want to pretend I have money and know about cars with my SUPERIOR torsion beam suspension

  • @MusicMan0007 Hi there, Elantra is much better than the Civic, Accord, or any Honda/Toyota car. Elantra's design (inside and outside) are amazing and better then Honda and Toyota's. Elantra's are VERY nice and with the sales Hyundai is getting, prices are going to increase on all models.

  • Honda has reached a plateau in car designs, they can't make the Civic any bigger without being a midsize car and they tried to play it safe.

  • Everyone missed the point, this is not a Dodge Viper nor is it priced like one either. Honda engineers are the brainiest of the bunch and they provide all of the technical work such as chassis dynamics which makes the civic a great platform to make your own custom car out of.

  • lame car

  • Dumb Honda.

  • It doesn't look all that new, but then again it doesn't look boring or ugly as some of the meat heads here make it out to be. Don't know, but the Elantra looks good at the moment and is somewhat of a decent car, but it's a car that might not be able to age well with time. Hyundai will quickly bury it with an even more over the top body. Their car styling jumped boat way too quickly. Honda on the other hand, always overcomes the odds and plays it smart. I think every Civic stands out on its own.

  • It doesn't look new.

  • Honda Civic 2 door looks amazing. The back looks more appealing compared to the bubble butt back. The inside is still fine but hey "why fix what isnt broken".

  • Steve you must test the 2012 Focus, preferably in an SEL or Titanium trim level. It is a pretty awesome vehicle.

  • Excellent review btw. Agree with every word you said :)

  • Civic is roomier than the Elantra... especially head room.

  • STEVE you're awesome,,,,,,,,,i always trust your opinions on all your reviews, after watching this review i will purchase the new 2012 hyundai elantra limited next month ,,, steve hammes is like the jeremy clarkson {top gear} in the states ,,,,,,,,,,, he's really really good , thanks again

  • I feel like the new Civic gets a lot of flak on paper, having "only" 140 hp and a 5 speed auto. Yet, in the real world, Civic seems to get equal or better fuel economy than the competition, and is not slow, either. So, the criticisms on paper does not translate into the real world.

  • @motormusique The Civic's drivability is right at the top of the segment, for sure. The Elantra does get better mileage, however. The Elantra is also larger and more powerful.

  • @stevehammes it gets better mileage on paper but look at real tests and the Civic beats it. Also, the Elantra has more room on paper, but the rear seat is cramped compared to the Civic.

  • @stevehammes Studies have proved otherwise. The Elanrta and Civic were both tested and the Civic got an average of 2-3 mpg more then the Elantra. Just because the epa ratings say the Elantra gets more doesnt mean anything.

  • @stevehammes The Elantra is also a Hyundai.

  • @stevehammes That's actually incorrect Steve. The Elantra gets better mileage once again, on paper. If you check sites like Fuelly.com, where actual owners report their mileage, the 2012 Civic is handily beating the Elantra. By several miles per gallon. The EPA numbers are not always the gospel truth.

  • @motormusique Sure you can buy that shit Swiss fake cheese in the grocery store in the ghetto but that same Swiss cheese bought at the town where old tradition still makes it with homemade kind of care and attention. From the outside the two types of Swiss cheese look the same but one of them was crafted with more attention and care. From the weight and outer appearance, the average Joe doesn't care.

  • The brake light on the '12 civic looks like that from the pre-gen Camry.

  • Steve raises very valid points in this video. This design has gotten old, most people would be looking for a new eye catching interior and exterior that could compete with cars in its class, especially considering the fact that the once slept on competition is really stepping up to the plate. But no Honda decided to play it safe.

  • "Hyundai is the new Honda"... in a couple years everyone will be running back to Honda. The new Civic actually gets better mileage than the Focus, but not as good as the Elantra's solid 40mpg. Focus gets about 37 or 38mpg... check consumer reports video.

  • It's nice. :-D

  • It's a Honda, so I'm sure it will be thzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    z.

  • Hyundai is the new Honda. Sad that Honda lost their sporty heritage for a more bland Toyota marshmallow.

  • @igeekone

I disagree. Hyundai is the new Hyundai. They are successful because they have good packaging and value, not because they are sporty. Most reviews I read still puts the Civic/Accord higher in driving dynamics than Elantra/Sonata

  • With a long list of luxury features available on those cars in same price bracket, Honda need to pull it together and modernize or they will become the "Crown Victoria - old man's cars" of the future.

  • I own a '01 Accord EX and it is a great car, for the most part. I have suffered from the obligatory transmission issues inherent to this model year. Before that I inherited my father's '99 Civic EX. As a car enthusiast, I too am seeing the rising of the Sun in the lands of KIA, Hyundai and even Chevy.

  • Comment removed

  • the correct term for justin beiber fans are tweens. haha, jb fans.

  • well, the styling itself is "bland" because it would be hard to design something that satisfies a wide demographic, so the best approach for Honda is to go conservative... if you want something more "youthful" or sporty then get the Si trim.

  • UKDM Honda Civic looks better.

  • agreed the car is boring, but will last forever....its a trade off. ill admit its a bit lazy on Honda's part but its a rock solid auto. the Cruze will look sharp on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck tho.

  • @shocktrooper1000 Exactly. I would never buy another American vehicle. Honda or Toyota for me.

  • @shocktrooper1000 and u kno this because......

  • This car is boring but provides bullet-proof reliability and excellent fuel economy. Steve Hammes forgot to mention that. Does Hyundai and Chevy have the same legendary reliability- Nope and Nope. I test drove this Civic- exact model in the same color even. Excellent car for the money.

I just bought a 2011 Honda Insight which gets 40/43 mpg, real world I have been getting 46/51 mpg for the same exact price as this Civic.

  • @Jferrari427 Not so...the word 'reliable' is in the first sentence of my script.

  • @stevehammes Good concise car reviews.

  • @Jferrari427 Thanks, my friend. You make some very valid points, btw.

  • @stevehammes as much as I am ashamed of hondas redesign, you did have a very good solid review, good job Steve!

  • @stevehammes steve, you did great on the car review. And actually hyundai and chevy reliability has gone alot better. Just wanted to point out in your review, don't say justin bieber. You are targeting towards adults and if you mention justin bieber they are going to scratch their head. Other than that, good review.

  • @hangene92 he said justin bieber to make a point. leave him alone, you are an adult learn to take the humor in what he is saying and move on.

  • @simplyadiktive are you getting offended by what I said??? Dude I'm not hating on him. Im just saying to stay professional. You really need to have more social live in order to tell the difference.

  • I agree with you. Honda's got a mode of if it has worked, don't need to fix it. However, I think Honda's stubbed their toe when it comes to a wow factor; they're never brash unless you get the Civic Si with Turbo VTEC engine with 205 hp and available only in a 6-speed manual.

Also, Honda whiffed when it comes to the transmission; most of the competition has 6-speed automatics; Honda has 5-speed autos.

  • @76carmel The only automatic worth getting over the manual contuerpart is the golf GTI, Double clutch gearbox is the only one worth getting. Other than that, not really. Most sporty cars and all out sports cars are better when they have a manual... and last longer with spirited driving. Auto boxes are very delicate.

  • @Jferrari427 Do you work for Honda? lol your statements seem to be something that Honda expected to hear from their loyal fan base when they put out this car that in my opinion is too much money for the lackluster experience you are getting. I LOVE Honda, but they are getting old... fast

  • @simplyadiktive No I dont work for them. I agree styling needs to be more aggressive. Dollar for dollar this is a pretty damn competitive car for real world use.

  • @Jferrari427 hondas engine reliabiliy might be good, but who wants to drive a reliable engine with breaking interior parts. the interiors of hondas are lacking and have been lacking. you pull on the dor handles and they make a horrible screech and they literally move when you pull them, they come with you when you pull the doors, i dont see a hyundai and a chevy doing that.

  • Honda has failed for the first time with their Civic.

  • @rforracing I dont think so. This car is rock solid in terms of reliability and fuel mileage. Bland, yes.

  • @Jferrari427 Elantra and Focus do better fuel mileage. Civic days are gone.

  • @rforracing Focus fan boys been saying that since 98 how much you want to bet the 9th gen Civic will outsell the new Focus and Elantra Worldwide?

  • @rforracing not even by far better wut r u sayin go do ur research at fuel economy dot gov site

  • @petmam Elantra 29 city 40 highway

    2012 Civic 28 city 39 highway

EPA fuel economy. Do your research.

  • @rforracing yeah so why did you say the elantra does better then the civic on gas milage ..... dude your not makin any sense its off by 1 and civic is a better lookin car then the elantra .... on the elantra the headlights and tail lights are shade so ugly compared to the civic

  • @petmam Elantra does 1 MPG BETTER. Whats so fuckin hard to understand? Do you need math classes?

Civic looks the same piece of shit as its last generation 2011 model. Ricer fag.

  • @rforracing wow, so that 1 mgp makes it so much better then a honda .... still will never get a ugly elanta over the honda and ok its not a big change compare to the elantra but at less they didn't make the whole new look ugly like the elantra ... that shit looks like a piece of shit ..... you must be the type of people that like ugly looking cars but i ain't going to judge you because of that .... sorry to say

  • @petmam HA!! Elantra and Focus were just picked for 2012 North American Car of the Year Finalists.

Your shitty Civic wasnt. That should shut you up for good.

  • Honda is following toyotas footsteps, what a shame, this car is so boring.
