  • Is six pronounced... Rok or RokU? I have heard people say it both ways.

  • so which one do they use more shi or yon/ nana or shichi

  • hello tom i was wondering about something i know this video is old but still the number 7 wich is shichi some also refer to it as nana do u know any reason for that ?

  • the number 7 in japanese can also be: nana right??

  • @uglybasterds Corecto Mundo

  • I think you should make videos on the Japanese language based on your own experiences. I know you've already talked about your study methods in general, but what about specific words and sentence structures? Do you have any anecdotes about how you mastered some of these items?

  • yus.

  • nice!^^

  • Arigato gozaimasu for the video! it was very helpful.

  • i thought 7 in japanese is nana is there a difference

  • You can count 7 both nana and shichi when you count from 1 up to 10.

But,... If you want to count 10 to 1, then you must say nana and not shichi!

You can also count 4 both yon and shi.

Again, if you want to count from 10 to 1, you must say yon.

    I don't think, there isn't any reason...

    日本語頑張って!!

  • thanks im learning japanese from a video game helpful but fully. arigato gozaimasu.

  • u say nana wen its after 10

  • Umm, what?

  • There is only one word that can describe your entire channel:

    GODLINESS

Thank you so much for this!

  • So how did you learn the language? Did you teach yourself or get a tutor or somthing?

    =O

  • I was taking notes all the time .....thanks it really helped me =P

  • nice tags rofl! "short skirts"

  • Is shichi and nana both the number seven? If so, what are the differences, if I may ask. ^^;

  • Yes, both shichi and nana mean seven.

The difference is when you use it.

Like shichi would be used for time and nana for quantities.

I'm sorry if this is not 100% accurate, I'm studying Japanese but I am nowhere near fluent :]

  • very infomative

  • nice video

  • THANKS!!!!....

  • lol im takin notes ty very much ily

  • Thank you very much for your lesson! Since my highschool got rid of Japanese class the year I started, I am now taking notes <333 Domo arigato gozaimasu!

  • dude i'm taking notes thanks 4 the lessons

  • I'm learning Japanese myself, sadly I have no class I can go to, but I am looking into it at the moment.. anyway, thanks for the lesson on the basics, its always good to get back to them. :)

  • Love your video's. How have you gained all your knowledge on Japanese? I'm a noobie to this language and would love to learn it, I'm thinking about it for University.

  • Uhh.. talking to people, my ex-girlfriend, japanese classes, a little bit of self study, anime and japanese movies :)

  • Nice video! I knew A-I-E-U-O from LEts Learn Japanese Basics I that I am taking but takes for the Number System of 1 - 10.

  • "Kanji are the Chinese characters that the Japanese have "barrowed"." Trying to keep Pandora's Box closed Tom?

Good video. Nice and simple for the first timer.

I think the thing that throws most people off when you tell them that you are studying Japanese is when you say, "Oh it is really fun and actually "pretty easy". Only 3 alphebets." And all of the sudden they are like, "3!". Then you have to point out 2 of them are the same and the other is a bunch of pictographs. Isn't Japanese great?

  • He meant borrowed. :)

  • Haha, exactly.. i went there once before and don't want to go back to it again. And yeah.. Japanese sounds very daunting :P

  • Thanks! please make more videos.

  • you can also say Yon(よん=四)for Four aside from Shi, and Nana(なな=七)for Seven aside from Shichi:) but all depends on the usage. Hope that helps:) all in all u've done a great job Tom! keep it comin'

  • correct, but i didnm't really want to start getting into that on the first lesson :P

  • thanks!keep it up

  • heh I knew japanese lessons would get you alot of views ;D. I love yours tags too lol rabies short skirts.

  • it would be so cool if you made some more, akitatom ! ^^

i think you should try making a japanese vlog.

since your japanese is so good i would love to hear it!

  • Thanks ^^ I want to learn more!=)

  • ty keep it up

  • watashi wa jouzuni nihongo hanasemasen, demo kore wa (this is as far as my japanese reach) was very easy. Keep up the good work ^^

How long time did you spend to learn all the hiragana ang katakana ?

TIPS:well I think it would have a lot more viewers if you put ooshida in thesee lessons xD

  • XD Yeah like one ooshida...two ooshida....ooshida is taking a walk XD

  • Yeah ^^, and little ooshida ninjas who are illustrating

  • I WOULD LOVE IF YOU MADE MORE!!!!!!!

  • That would be awesome if you can make more. It would be nice to learn more languages. Thanks! ^.^

  • I really like the idea of a tutorial video series. That would be very nice. :D Maybe next you can teach basic manners for when you meet someone new, at dinner etc. :)

    ja ne!

  • yaaaaaaay!!!!!!! i can count to ten!! and say my voels (those are the voels right?) o_O lol^^ lv it keep em comming tom^^

  • Yay! Now I just need to practice O.o!

    Keep 'em coming! ^-^

  • Great job! I'm sure you're video will be helpful to many people. It is a bit basic, though, but I'm sure it will be helpful with giving people a better understanding of the appropriate pronunciation. What about doing a video where you ask your host family/classmates about what they think students wanting to learn Japanese should do to get better at Japanese?

  • Cool lesson, i've actually started to teach myself japanese from a book since i started watching your videos and maybe it would be better you went over the sentence structure early on? They have that stuff like wa and o to identify subject predicet and topic and such... something most english speakers arent used to. But great so far, i haven't even began to dip into hiragana, wanna get a good start in vocab and grammar first. ~Great as always~

  • That was the mistake I made. Get a chart of Hiragana, and at least look at them even if you don't practice writing. It will help you a lot more in the long run as you will be able to identify words and phrases that you know. Like I said don't make the same mistake I did.

  • good tip.. ima gonna get me a chart^^

  • Good vid Tom, at least i liked. I remember few years back i started to study by myself so the first lesson you thought was easy:D

I think you should continue these lesson videos. Just don't update them too constantly, then you will become somewhat a teacher for us :P

  • Excellent tom,,, I liked this one so keep these simple lessons coming.

I think the simple layout of the lesson is great and made to "get stuck" quite easy.

    *back slap* good boy...

  • Tom, how I are speaks Japanese?

kirei na hitomi da ne >_>

    lolololololo----sigh.

    元気 です か。

  • AkiraTom、

    いい発音ですよ!何時から日本語を勉強しますか?

  • 何時か?日本で?ここであまり勉強しってないよ。それとAkitaTomはは、あきらトムじゃないです。

    コッメントありがとうございます。

  • AkitaTom :)

    何時から=いつから、 それとも何歳からですか?

  • そうだね・・・本当にかんじ大嫌い。

    9ヶ月勉強しました。だから・・・17歳から^^。

    ころくさんは?

  • 漢字は難しいですよね。少しずつ本とか雑誌とか新聞を読んだら早くたくさん漢字を覚えると思います。

    僕は4年かんか5年かん日本語を勉強します :/

  • Maybe you could provide a translation other than babbelfish for us fellow gaijin? :]

  • What the hell is babbelfish :| haha

  • Babbelfish is just a translator :]. Thought most gaijin have had the experience of just pasting strings of japanese into it due to lack of kanji skill. You google babblefish and it should be the first one.

  • HEY TOM!!! the long awaited 29th video has finally been uploaded! yay! thanks for the pretty basic lesson. keep up the great videos! good luck!!!

    bye~~
