I don't get why people call this kind of serve garbage and any pro can return it. I see drop shots during rallies all the time and a lot of the time the pros aren't able to get to them. If you're able to master a short serve that barely goes past the net then I can see that as being an excellent way to mix it up. Especially if you're someone like Isner or Karlovic where people are expecting a power serve.

That's what I do as well. I'm almost as tall as Karlovic and people just withdraw to the very back of the court to return my serve. When they return my serve it ends up so short that I have the whole open court to end the point and I just dropshot them

When you return a serve with that speed you only have to get your racquet behind it and block it back. It doesn't take any power because you USE ALL THE PACE of the incoming serve. You don't take a full swing on returns, its basically chipping/blocking and it's not hard to block it back deep. And if you can block Ivo's serve back, and you start a baseline rally there is a big chance of winning the really because Karlovic has very poor groundstrokes.
