1. mushrooms drown after 48h dunk 2. >90% huminity is ideal for cakes, and >80% for casing. 3. Perlite is not avaible everywhere, i use LECA + airpump hose in glass and it gives fresh air 24/7 + humidity stays 99% all the time! 4. as simple as this i got 659g fresh from ONE CASING ALONE! 5. keep it simple! 6. do lots of printing ;) 7. cubensis do not need cold shock ideal growth: colonization: 23-27'C fruitting: 21-25'C 8. dunking cakes: 24h casing: 12h
Mushrooms do NOT die after 48 hour dunk, I have left in dunk for over a week and fine results. 95-99% RH is perfect for mushrooms(psilocybe). Cubensis do NOT need cold shock, but as from the Mushroom God himself, RogerRabbit is inclined to believe that cold shocking this type does bring forth a more potent specimen. Please do more research before babbling off bullshit.
Actually the reason RR recommends placing the dunked cakes in the fridge (above 40 F recommended) is to prevent the growth of contaminants. If you are not able to place them in the cold you should replace the water every 8 hours and/or pour some H2O2.
Get yourself a spray bottle with a fine mist setting and mist into the chamber every few hours, or when ever you have time. This will raise humidity and lower temps enough for fruits.
Also, vermiculite on the cakes will help keep moisture levels higher and provide structure for mushrooms to stand on. Go to the shroomery ;)
No. If 24 hours worries you, over night's fine. It's to simulate outside fruiting conditions,(a nice cool summer rain, then the hot day that follows).
There are four conditions that initiate pinning in the psilocybe genus. The first is nutrients, once all used this is the first stage that initiates them into fruiting. Then you want decreased levels of CO2. Next is evaporation(FAE) from the surface of the cake. And lastly and one of most overlooked in this mushroom is sunlight, either diffused natural sunlight or from a 6500 fluoro to really even out those pinsets.. hope this cleared up some of the bullshit from some of these people.. pe@ce
I did the fish pump thing and its working bad ass for me creating tons of humidity and water on the walls but I do air My cakes out Like 2 to 3 times a day depends on how humid it is getting great idea
Just fruiting the cakes generates lousy yields - use a casing layer (look it up).

Um.. your air line should be below your lava rocks geez dude.
Anyway, you could do something much better much easier....

Humidity is too low, should be 95%. Temp should be 84F. Soak the cakes in water for 24 hours, then roll them in vermiculite.

won't 24 hours kill?

what went wrong? it looks like maybe not enough moisture and perhaps the temp was a little bit high.
I like the technique of putting water all in the base of the tub, and keeping the cakes up out of it of course
