Ugh, he was just so yummy in this role, but the role got so little screentime, it makes me frustrated! I mean how long can you play those 3-4 good scenes over and over?! Well, let's find out...
I've never read the book before but I do love the movie & I've seen a few versions of them. Now, I was wondering if they have ever rewritten the classic novel to a more modern english. I have read Jane Austin's novels & they were alittle complicated since they were in british english. Anyways, I still read her novels & thank god they had the meanings in the back. I was just wondering about Wuthering Heights.
@sassylatina808 My version of Wuthering Heights features footnotes in the back, any words thought to be confusing are numbered and well everything Joseph says is translated in the back as well. (XD I always read him out loud!)
As for a novel be rewritten... well I never really heard of that, all classic texts in Britain tend to be in the original writting now days (if an English language of course!) for example my Catcher in the Rye text is all American English (I'm British)
Ralph is much better.Wuthering Heights of 1992 is wonderful.Juliette Binoche e Ralph Fiennes are better actors. The actress of this film (1998) is ridiculous.
He was loyal to Heathcliff but yeah he was a good guy... I don't really think there was a clear distinction between goodies and baddies in this story actually. The characters were complicated like that but if there was one Hareton is definitely good...
Funny how everyone thinks that it is such a great love poem. It's basically a man trying to get a woman to sleep with him. And then he starts talking about worms. Very romantic. ;-)
hahaha exactly! We had to read this in my English class and I just couldn't stop laughing.... "my vegetable love will grow" was definitely the best line
sERIOUSLY WHATEVER HE SAYS IS BEAUTIFUL EVEN IN MY FATHERS DEN WHEN HE SAYS FUCK YOU ITSS BEAUTICUL LOL HE HAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICE EVER LOVE YOU MATTHEW MACFADYEN
Yes that voice.. :D It's truly the kind of voice that you could listen to all day long no matter what it was that he'd be saying - reciting poems, novels, the english encyclopedia etc..
I think the 1939 version, with Laurence Olivier is the best there is, even though many things from the book were left out. I think it was the most authentic in the description of the love between cathy and heathcliff!
he realy does fit in the pre 20th cen adaptations hes in little dorrit as well in real life hes a prat in his interviews but with that voice and eyes he pull off a good as a good actor
I really recommend watching it.. :) And not just because of Matthew (even though he's absolutely gorgeous and wonderful in it) but because it's a great movie and loyal to the book..
I just finished watching this movie last night, and I absolutely loved it. Matthew, like I said before,is the most beautiful man I have ever seen;I couldn't take my eyes off of him,he is just mesmerizing.
He's astonished everyone as far as I know.. At least I've never heard that people hadn't loved him after seeing his films.. Not once.. :) Which films of his have you seen?
Unfortunately, i´ve only seen Pride and Prejudice movie. In my country most of the films come from the USA industry. I´ve seen parts of Matthew´s works here in Youtube. He has betwitched me since the first time I saw him and i pray for being affortunate to see him in more different films. He is not only a "Beautiful man", but he is an excellent artist. If he´d work in the USA he would be the sexiest man in the world and for sure win an Oscar Award.
Yeah mine too.. :) This scene was my favorite of the whole movie cos of Macfadyen! My heart mealts at the sight of him.. And don't you just love his voice!? I'd have him read to me anytime...
hi!!!i love this story!!!i've read the book and i think it's incredible!!!but...i've never seen the film because it's hard to find it here...in argentina...i've look everywhere but i just can't find it...

The only good bits from this particular adaptation are the bits with Matthew. Otherwise, the movie sucks.

Oh dear... I'd sooo love to hear him reading the whole poem...
"An hundred years should go to praise
Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;
Two hundred to adore each breast,
But thirty thousand to the rest..."
Ahhh... can you imagine that?!?
