you could throw a little bit of the metal putty from a muffler repair kit into the hole that you drilled out to large. You should be able to find it at an auto parts store.

Check out the auto part store , they sell hela-coil, bad spelling, it just looks like a spring, you set it in the hole then you got new treading.
