I would appreciate that very much, I have been searching Since May for plans for QE2 and have been able to find Nothing. I appreciate your assistance and your time Thank You.
It is a beautiful model, very crisp looking and really nice to see the QE2 as built with the smoke stack and sports deck. How do you find it is for sailing... as in the size determined by the scale? In hindsight would you go bigger or smaller in terms of the model handling in the water(or is it just right)? It does look great sailing .. I'm just trying to work out how 'N-scale' (2mm / foot) will work as r/c models.
You are completely right, it is an absolute stunning model! Gerold, who built it is a real model master. I do believe that he is quite happy with the scale (by the way it is 'his' scale, so all his models are 1/200). As far as I recall 'N' scale is 1/160 which would result in a model of approx. 1.83m. That would be very nice for shure and the overall sailing behaviour would probably be even better as the physics with water does not scale (therefore the bigger the more realistic).
Thanks for your kind comment. But I don't want to take credit for this model as it is built by Gerold, a club mate from us. Therefore the laurels winning belong to him ;-).
Well, it is a scale model (1/200) what makes a final length of 146.75 cm (approx. 58 inches). As it is a scratch build model it is hard to say how much money went into it (let's say 'a lot').
Her original look was amazing. The original thin funnel had to be replaced/re-worked in 1987 when the ship was re-engined and additional exhaust pipes were required. After the penthouses were added (and later extended) the original thin funnel may have looked out of proportion. The new massive funnel is certainly impressive and carries the Cunard colors very well.
That's the tug 'Jan' as showed in the our channel. Of course on a model show case where lot's of modelers show their boats not all of them are in the same scale. Therefore you are right: compared to the "QE2" "Jan" is completely out of scale.
This video, as well as all the others in your channel are truly inspirational. Recently I've expanded my hobby in shipbuilding. It started with a two masted schooner when I was younger. Recently I acquired another sail boat, as well as a steam launch. I am also constructing a 5'2" model of the SS France, so detailed models of ocean liners have been helpful.
Great ship and great video, pass along my compliments.
Wow, a beautiful model indeed! I still think she looked most beautiful like this, in her original 'as built' state - that funnel particularly was so slender and streamlined, much nicer than the chunky one they replaced it with in 1987!
That model is of QE2 in 1969. She had that basic look until 1972 when the first penthouse suites were added aft of the bridge. The funnel was painted 'Cunard Red' in 1982 and the hull painted in a light grey. The light grey hull lasted a few years until it was re-painted charcoal/black. A new larger funnel was installed in the mid-1980s after QE2 was re-engined and changed from a steamship to a diesel powered ship.
Thanks for the replies, I am really wanting to model a 1/96 scale R/C version of my own of the proud lady. I will check the sources you sent. Thanks Again, I appreciate the help.
Look for the seller called 'plans'n things' on ebay. He's got a quite a collection. Not all of them are very good quality and many are in rather small scale. But it's a start.
Also MRB (Model Reduit Bateaux) might be a place to look for it. They run an online shop under mrb-boutique '.' com.

posted your video on the munroe mansion wordpress along with photos and other videos of the RMS Queen Elizabeth which I write about in my fictional novels as a means of transportation from canada to england in 1942.
You are absolutely right! The speed is far too high even so it looks not as fast when watching it in reality. The speed in videos always looks faster than it is. Fortunatelly Gerold (the builder and owner) is cruising her normally at a much more moderate speed and we plan to past another vid showing her a in a slower cruise. Thanks for watching!
I am very sorry but she is not for sale at the moment. But way you are not going to give model boating a try? Maybe you should not start with a project like RMS QE II but there are several really nice kits to build. And they are not that difficult. With some training you might go for something more complicated.
It is like everywhere: it's the training what makes the difference!
Thanks for your comment! As a matter of fact I am not the builder and owner but it is a colleague from our social club. I will check that out and post the answer as soon as possible.
You are completely right! The speed is unfortunatelly above scale. But it is funny because in real it seems not to be the same as in the video. In the video speed always seems faster.
It is made from scratch so you might not buy it somewhere (at least not in this quality). But it is much more fun in doing it by yourself than just go an buy it out of the shelf. Just try it, really!
Great detail on the QE2! Must have been hard to make because the water line on these ships are so low, so adding ballast to prevent it from capsizing might make the ship too heavy and have water above the line... great job!
Hello, I'm a fan of model boats like you. I'm looking for a radio controlled model of an ocean liner at a good price. You tell me a good brand that produces radio-controlled models of ocean liner?
Hi Bruno. I perfectly understand why you are a fan for such ships ;-).
Anyway the only RC ocean liner I know what is to buy as a kit is the "Hanseatic" from ROBBE. I have no knowledge about Ready-to-Run models. But I would recommend to build an ocean liner from scratch if you are already exerienced in modelling. And if not, there is always time to begin and try. We do it the same way - every project is an adventure. Just go for it!

Well spotted! The color scheme of QE2 has changed over the years where as there was a period where the funnel was black and white. Later on as well as at present the coloring is black and red.
Anyhow I will check that with the owner and builder of the model and correct this comment if I should be wrong. Thx for your comment!
Maybe some good RC ocean liners can be found as Ready-to-Run models even so a real eye catcher has still to be done from scratch. But this is lot more fun anyway. Please be inspired!
did this use to be a modle kit
lyman2129 2 months ago
@lyman2129 No, it is built completely from scratch. Gerold based his model on plans, which he bought approx. 40 years ago.
