  • We don't want taxes, When I work my ass off 45 hours a week, I sure don't want to see half of my paycheck going out to some stupid social program to help the poor widow with 2 kids and no income, she can die in the street i don't care because the gas for my F-150 is expensive and I want a new Ipod for Christmas !

  • Dan Mitchell for President!

  • That Mark Walsh guy definitely belongs on radio. I could totally see him doing the top 40 hits.

I don't really agree with him, but he gets props for being civil.

  • wow, this is so much more civilized than the O'riley show.

  • I love it. The only way to balance a budget is to the tax the F outta everyone, eh Mr. Walsh? So, what happens when the rich aka celebs wake up and leave CA? Britain has a 65% tax rate and they've been sinking for years w/socialized health care etc. Yet Obama talks about the "tired, failed policies of the past" and applies their same formula. Wonder why low tax Ireland is growing so much then? It's not rocket science, libs.

  • What ever normative comments you people want to make. This isn't a balanced perspective. This is the cato institute one of the furthest right groups that exist.

  • The Cato Institute is one of the most PRINCIPLED groups that exist. If only there were more Cato Institutes, America (and the world) would be a much better place.

  • Aren't they more Libertarian?

    Political thought isn't one-dimensional.

The idea that political thought can be split into "left" and "right" is quaint, at best.

  • PBS I went to the tea party, and i make a little more than 100K.

  • The first place to start saving money should be cutting the size of government. Everything they do is a disaster.

  • Health- Octo Mom - My god will they cut her welfare checks, will they stop paying for her artificial insementaion

  • You must have gone to school in California. I think the word you were searching for was "insemination..."

Still...When you're right, you're right. There's something wrong when that sort of selfishness can be given wings to fly by the taxpayer.

  • By heavens ur write i went to public skool in calif. Unlike Obama my parenst could not affor to send me to provate school.

Funny how things work, I mean here Obama thinks the government can do a great job at all kinds of things. But when it comes to educating his own kids he opts out.

  • I tend to think that most people are capable of learning, in SPITE of what school they go to.

You don't need to go to school to learn Calculus, for example. You just pick up a book at a used bookstore. It's how I did it.

No...The reason people go to fancy schools is for status only.

Learning is, and should be, personal. The school could be used as a tool for structure and an objective test of what's been learned.

  • Thanks, you are correct. I guess I am just being lazy.

  • You know, after watching that video, it's hard to understand why AOL isn't a powerhouse today. lol

  • I'm afraid your joke needs to be explained:

The former CEO of the, now-defunct, AOL believes that the rich should be taxed. It makes you wonder how they went out of business.

  • 3:42 Larry is right but that's so very snide and unprofessional.

  • (3) Instead of government cutting its bureaucracy and diminishing the size of the state and its parasitic, special interest, social welfare, and leftist utopian machinery and programs and sticking to the basic legitimate functions of government, the state threatens to impair the education, health, and safety of its citizenry who dare deny it what it wants...more money.

Now, the people must rise up and punish the state for daring to make such threats!!! Rise up and throw out those tyrants!!!

  • "PRISONERS WILL POUR INTO THE STREET!"

    Nice fear-mongering, Walsh.

  • (2)Cut government spending and leave the money with the earners, who will find they have more money, increased purchasing power, and better quality of life.

Instead of cutting spending, government seeks to threaten and punish those who don't agree to allow themselves to be plundered and robbed by government. It threatens to close schools, cut fire and police protection, and teach the public, who are tired of being bled, that they had better submit or suffer.

  • (1)Mark Walsh is neither terrific nor to be appreciated. He is another of the socialist kooks who advocates for the already failed policies of tax and spend, and tax more.

The ONLY solution, as he calls it, is not to tax more. It is to spend less. Taxing more decreases the purchasing power of those taxed and decreases their quality of life. They simply subsist. while government engorges itself and rewards its lackeys.

  • "Raise taxes on the rich?" The rich already pay something like 74% of taxes in the U.S.

In California it's probably more like 85%.

  • I think the crux of the matter was nailed about 5 minutes in: policy makers are using *short term* thinking only. I think the reality is one of two choice:, either they make drastic spending cuts now, or the crashing Cali economy will later cause even more drastic spending cuts for them. (Not to mention civil outrage.)

  • Sell San Francisco to China... It's a double win.

  • Comment removed

  • Where are the liberal hollwood types? Ya know Sean Penn and the gang. Not hearing a peep from any of them. The ones that still live there are packing their bags. Mr. Mitchell, I commend you for keeping a straight face while debating a complete and utter moron.

  • There is no other way than raise taxes?

    IT'S NOT GOVERNMENT'S MONEY!!!

In a business, if the customer doens't want to pay for overpriced crap, he doesn't buy it and the smart business stops selling the crap at high prices. Government should cut programs the taxpayers are not willing to support or that don't work (hmm, public education anyone?). The taxpayers will learn to live without them or demand that the programs are cost effective.

Walsh is the CEO of HOT Air America.

  • Voodoo economics?

    ROFL

Mark Walsh is quoting the God Father of NeoCons... no the ACTUAL father of THE NeoCon that thrashed our economy to begin with!

    LOL

    Oh the irony!

Liberals have resorted to quoting NeoCons!

How long until the pigs walk on hind legs and smoke cigars?

  • FUCK YOU MARK WALSH!

  • I hope Larry Kudlow's optimistic view of California is a true one. It would be nice to see my state get some economic sense.

  • ...Good god..

Mark is spewing so much bullshit I wouldn't even know where to begin.

  • Because he's a douchebag?

  • no other way? heard about cutting spending?

  • "no other way than raising taxes"

That, my friend, is the liberal lack of imagination. These people don't have the spine to make the tough choices to CUT SPENDING and get rid of unnecessary programs. Surely there are at least a few unnecessary agencies out there in California that could be cut, for god sake.

  • funny that I didn't read your comment earlier as you said what I meant to say, just better, lol
