when planning to install 2 different OS in a system. for example a windows platform and ubuntu 6.0, which OS will i install first? is it the linux or the windows?
Just got the CD and wanted to install on laptop .. my only hesitation is that I still want/need to play World of Warcraft .... you guys have any thought on how I can get it to run on the new ubuntu platform?
You can download it from a torrent tracker(I think this is the best option) like mininova or through official Ubuntu site and burn it on CD, or you can order to ship you a free CD through official Ubuntu site.
I haven't tried it yet, but the fact is that applications that run with wine are usually slower that on native OS. But you gain nothing above 35 fps in most games. And considering that wc3 is not a new game there shouldn't be a problem. Go to winehq and check it out. As far as I have seen it works fine under OpenGl.
how do you install ubuntu on a pre-made partition... example: ive made 4x 35gb partitions from my 150gb raptor... i have xp installed on c: and vista installed on d:, how do i install it on e:?
Run the live cd. Then start the installation, once you have entered the language options etc you will be shown all the partitions on your hard drive. Select the partition you wish to install Ubuntu and continue.
I've been planning on getting a second hard drive to install ubuntu, will it allow me to choose which hard drive I want to install it on? Because one of the Hard drives will be reserved for Windows XP.
yes you will be able to select another partition, but you will need to manually play about with the masterboot record because it is on a seperate hard disk.
Tryed to install ubuntu 7.04 on my Mac using B.C. Everything went well until I tried to partion my hard drive. I had already done this with bc for ubuntu (5GBs or so). It said that there was no root file found for any of the areas that I choose. I would have use the default option of cleaning the entire harddrive, but I really wanted to be able to dual boot besides, never used linuxs before.
Oh, I just realized that I didn't need to use bootcamp to partiton my hard drive, since ubuntu would do it for me anyway. After re-partitioning the HD, it still worked fine, but I am continually running into the error message about a root file missing. If anyone has an idea of what I'm forgetting, please let me know.
You can ignore my question by this point. Through dumb luck, I stumbled apon a way to get it running. The partition is a tad small, only about 5 or 6 gigs, but assuming that you'll cover on how to expand the partition in your later video's I don't have any immediate questions.
how do u do it without getting the cd? i downloaded it directly to my hard drive (after waiting for download complete for literally a whole day), but its like all distorted, and each file has to be opened seperately, in other words, its the same as putting a pc-only-cd in a mac. Can anyone help me fix this distorted-file-only problem?
You cannot install it in this manner, simply download the ISO File and burn it to disc or order it from Ubuntu. Otherwise you will be complicating the installation.
theres a place where you can choose the connection and i tried every thing including ethernet and it doesn't work, what should i do? and also, do you know how to install beryl or run it? rsvp
Thahks Alot for the video your have such a clear voice and nice background music.
i spend two days and two nite sleepless to install ubunbu but somehow it failed..at last i successed but when it comes to restart i got the error "OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND"
so i am now downloading it again and thinking might be the problem is in the file that i have downloaded..
Ok if I install this program, and dont like it can I uninstall it (cuz I have vista and it was really expensive). Then if I do unInstall it will it earasse all my stuff? Would it be possible to have it just for 1 user on my comp so I could switch between the systems? Plz let me know.
What you can do is Install Virtual PC 2007 on Vista and Install Ubuntu on it. You can mess about with the operating system, without losing Vista. Or you can Dual Boot
Is a comedy... "Oh, wait, that's my name. You use your name please!" LOL

can i still play warcraft with it?
mac10shell 4 years ago
Warcraft 3 works on Ubuntu through wine. Wine is the compatibility layer program for unix(also Ubuntu) like operating systems. Look for winehq.
First install wine(video shows how). Then install warcraft normally.

is it true i loose fps?

Yeah. If you don't have a burner you can also order free cd's from shipit, but they take about a month or so to arrive.
