  • Michael, Ramin, and John are the absolute best. Gary and Howard are awesome too :)

  • @jelliclekat24 I'll say. What about John Cudia?

  • RAMIN MAKES ME WANT TO SHOOT A PUPPY HE SOUNDS SO GOOD

  • Michael, Ramin, and Earl own.

  • also im dieing to here colm do the stranger than you dreamt scene or notes 2 where could i get it or could you please upload it?

  • hard to pay attention to colm with the audience laughing, wish i knew what was going on

  • John owen jones, Gary Maur, Ear carpenter, Ramin Karimloo. Oh wait... I'm just listing my favorite phantoms.

  • Ramin Karimloo is the best! Go Ramin!

  • Is there any doubt that Michael Crawford is the best? lol

  • Colm. Wilkinson. Sounds. Very. Abrupt. o.o" Well. At. Least. He. Stands. Out. And. The. Message. Is. Very. Clear.

  • I loved how Colm Wilkinson brought it up an octave at the end. I do like Ramin Karimloo, but I think he could have done with less vibrato. And I'm a sucker for John Owen-Jones' voice ;)

The Toronto Anniversary phantoms at the end made me smile. Ah, Phantom.

  • Ramin, Gary and Earl were the best!!!

  • RAMIN WINS ALL THE WAY!!!!!!

  • Ramins second "I'm here!" was creepy ._.

  • I'm probably going to get a shitload of hate for this.. But I don't understand why everyone hates Gerard. Gerard never sang in his life, but he stepped it up for the movie and sounded brilliant. Yeah, sure it was the movie, so of course everyone hates it, but he sounded beautiful. Emmy too, Emmy has one of the best voices that I have ever heard. Yes, Crawford is the original, so you have to like him.. But I do love Gerard, and he and Emmy will always be my favorites. <3

  • @NellieMoriah Butler already sang before, he had a band in the past. But I understand what you said, he's not a professional tenor, and made a great work singing at the movie. Well, I don't think the movie version should be compared to the theater version, it's a totally different point of view, IMHO. And yes, Emmy Rossum has one of the beautiful and sweet voices ever, she was a professional singer before she turn an actress. Anyway, I love Earl Carpenter, JOJ and Ramin Karimloo.:3

  • I love Ramin! But I love Colm taking it up the octave towards the end and Anthonys key :)

  • SQUEEEE!!! CRAWFORD!!.<3<3<3<3

    close second Gary.

the giggling over Colms version was distracting, but i like him always <3 Colm

  • Damn it, Colm! I can NOT stand his staccato singing. Would love to hear to hear him sustain a note...

  • You didn't add Gerard because then there would be no contest :p

  • Ramin - I just love his voice - he is amazing!

  • Michael and Ramin FTW! All though I also really enjoyed JOJ and Gary Mauer. :)

  • hugh panaro! (: oh and michael crawford of course!

  • Oh, and heaps of thanks for uploading!!! :-)

  • Michael Crawrofd IS. THE. Phantom again; Gary Maurier was terrific with the teasing part, and so was Antony Warlow with the singing. I also liked John Owen-Jones. With Ramin, I think his sound enginner should get a note (signed "O.G."): the others sounded from all places, and Ramin as if he stood by me, a few steps away. A LOT less effective.

  • @alba0merula

I mean, the singing part, from the "no 'buts'".

  • Gary. Lol.

    I love his "...is riiiiigght."

  • Don''t hurt me or burn my house down but I really like Gerard Butler, in this video I really cannot decide and I also believe Gerard Butler isn't as good as some with these lines but it is also vice versa. <3 Don't hate me for typing me opinion.

  • @phantomphan4ever1 ya i kinda agree. i mean sure he's not as good as some of the people on this video (Ramin) ;) but he's still got a singing voice. so all you gerry haters don't hate me.

  • Damned if you do damned if you don't. Poor fireman.

  • Ramin all the way! <3

  • @ScenemoSweetie Totally! he's my favorite!

  • When Ramin says "No buts" he sounds like one of the goons xD He is truly awesome! :)

  • ramin karimlooooooooo the best lol specially the "begin" lol

    joj is great too i

but to me the best is ramin..

  • XD i just noticed that with gary mauer the gun didn't go off XD "WHY DIDN'T YOU FIRE?!" "*squeaky voice*but monsieur le vicomte!"

  • love

    Michael Crawford

    John Owen-Jones

    Ramin Karimloo

    Earl Carpenter

    Howard McGillin

    Nic Greensheilds

  • Michael Crawford sounds like an evil super-villain. lol

  • @PittsBurghFuzz That is incorrect.

Michael Crawford IS an "evil" super-villain. He manages to mask it because his voice resonates the sound of "awesomeness".

  • @MasterAnemos indeed.

  • I only loved number 4. for my own reasons ^^

    Go Ramin Karimloo :D

  • Aw, I thought GB was good! :( But here, MC, Ramin, and Hugh were amazing. Peter Karrie never ceases to make me laugh, though. And I mean that in a not-so-nice way.

  • My personal favorites: 3, 5, 9, 10 ('cause he sounded like Michael but the Michael recording in this was the least clear out of all of them). And to all who hate on GB, sure he can't act the part, but he did have a pretty decent voice. I read the Gaston Leroux novel (what this was based on) before I saw the movie or Broadway, and I personally think everyone else had too high a voice for the menace that the Phantom is supposed to be. Gerard wasn't too low or too high

  • Wilkinson and Panaro SUCK! I'd be very disapointed to go see Phantom and have either of them as the title role. Michael Crawford all the way, hands down, no contest!

  • I love it when he plays the "I'm here" game! Howard McGillin is my favorite in this batch, followed closely by Michael Crawford (he does sarcasm so well) and then Hugh Panaro.

  • RAMIN.

  • In my opinion, Gary Mauer is the best in this scene

  • Why are they laughing at Colm??

  • Im so sad that this wasn't in the OLCR.. :(

  • Ramin and JOJ were STUNNING. Gary's performance was laughable. I cracked up. And MC's sounded like a cat falling of the empire state building and landing on Oprah. Can you imagine? "YEEEEOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW- Aaaaaaaaaaah!"

  • I melted at ramins "let my opera begin!" HES AWESOME! he pwns all xD

  • I love ramins 'begin', amaaazing!

  • Michael Crawford is THE BEST phantom I have ever heard. Though Anthoney is starting to grow on me. Ramin had a pretty good last note but I give it to Crawford.

  • I can't hear Gary and not think "Raoul" It definitely has to do with my singing him on Bway as Raoul many times; he's SUCH a great Raoul. He does sounds great here. I just don't hear him as Erik. Howard's voice sounds better when he's not singing Phantom. I don't understand why it changes when he sings Erik's part. Hugh is a good phantom live, but his Seal My Fate is not the best here. Actually Anthony Warlow sounds best here, and Peter Karrie the most dramatic (his acting is exciting).

  • No one else puts as much passion into his voice as does Crawford. The crystal clarity of his voice, it's power, emotion, and sheer strength is incomparable.

  • i'm sorry but crawford dose nothing for me, it's Ramin all the way! i love gary @ 3:37

  • Hm, I like Crawford the best, of course. But Warlow is also a good fit in my opinion.

  • I'm gunna have to say my favorites were JOJ, Ramin Karimloo, Peter Karrie, and Nic Greensheilds.

JOJ, Ramin Karimloo, and Peter Karrie seem to always make it to my top, but Nic Greensheilds surprised me. I really liked his, too.

  • I like Gary Mauer's the best simply for the fact that they messed up and kept rolling with it, improvisation at its finest!

Id have to say for the delivery I like Colm Wilkinson's the best because he made it super creepy.

  • I just find the 'seal my faith' irretating cause it doesn't (really) count as a song more a chance to get ready for a stage cahgne for "Don Juan" though at the sametime while it's redundent I would have liked it if it was on the OLC recording(just for the sake of completeion)

  • I love all of them, but I have to say my favourite is John Owen-Jones. I quite like Ramin too though.

  • have to say my fave is Ramin by a mile, he has so much power in his voice! I loved seeing him perform both times i have seen him and i think he is one of the best Phantoms since Micheal Crawford. :-)

  • My 2 Favourites : Michael Crawford, Ramin Karimloo

  • Michael Crawford, Gary Mauer, Anthony Warlow are the three best in my opinion. I don't understand Ramin as the Phantom though. His voice is very nice but it's just not a Phantom's voice. It sounds so young. How old is he anyway?

  • i think he's 30 now

  • 31... just to be picky

  • oh yer, it was his bday in sept... lol

  • Howard Mcgillin is the best

  • Agreed!

  • Anthony Warlow was the best, closely followed by Michael Crawford. Colm Wilkinson's last couple lines were awesome, though I'm not a huge fan of his Phantom in general.

Now, John Owen Jones is one of my very favorite Phantoms, but what the hell was up with this recording? Definitely not as his best that night.

  • i thought i would never say this, but colm wilkinson was the BOMB on this one!

  • I've only seen the movie version of this so I'm curious about if this is on the Broadway soundtrack or if this was just a fun little extra someone did? I"d love to see this live but have yet to get the money to do so.

  • thats not anthony warlow... is it

  • I love how in Gary's version, Raoul recovered so well with the gun when it didn't go off.

I would say, Michael won this round. Sarcasm laced with his voice, brilliant!

JOJ...I dunno, this recording doesn't do him justice at all I think. he's normally far better.

Hugh's 'No Buts!" was chilling! Wonderful!

Anthony's "Monsieur Le Vicomte" is gorgeous! His voice is also just wonderful.

So I would say, they're all good in their own way. Too hard to decide!

  • Michael, Gary Mauer, Howard Mcgillin were the best for me. Michael is my favorite phantom. I love Colm, just not as the phantom and I have no idea what people see in JOJ.

  • what egsactly are they doing in all this?

  • Michael Crawford - best "No Buts!"

    Ramin Karimloo - best "Begiiiiiiiin"

JOJ - best "for once the vicomte is right"

Howard McGillan sounds rushed to me =/

and what do they do to make it so funny in the Toronto version??

    <3

  • They are all seperate actors doing the different lines in the Toronto version

  • i meant in general, cos the audience were giggling in Colm's aswell, and he performed in Toronto... is it something Toronto do to make it quite humorous every night?

  • The response of the actors onstage

  • the different voices I have no clue lol and although howard is a good phantom he has always erked me on some recording.

  • i love how the show emphasizes the phantom's talent of ventriliquism in this scene.

  • Cool. I saw this show in London and I didn't expect the gun to shoot and I nearly had a heart attack lol. Great show. Thanks for uploading:-)

  • You know I actually have to say that Michael Crawford was by far the best at this part overall.

Colm's was just SCARY. I mean it wasn't his singing....it was just really creepy which is good but it wasn't elegant...same with Peter Karrie (but he's always sort of played a scary Erik)

And as much as I ADORE JOJ his wasn't as eerie. Gary Mauer's was actually really really good except for the gun not going off. And Earl I actually liked but I could not stand how he said "Monsieur Le Vicomte"

  • Definately Michael Crawford!Elegantly smooth.

  • Did anybody ever tell you how awesome you are "PHANTOMfan08"?

  • I would have to say Michael Crawford. I love his voice! Theres something about it that is so beautiful and strong but still very Phantom like. Plus he has a slight sarcastic edge that adds a special touch. Thank you for not adding GB!

  • It's my pleasure not adding GB ;)

  • ha ha ha yay ^_^

  • @PHANTOMfan08

That's kind of crappy; he IS/WAS a Phantom and deserves a chance to be analyzed among the others.

  • Micheal is the original that is why he is the best because he laid down the style all the Phantom's are supposed to use. I find that funny that Gary's gun faulted, it didn't when he came to my town. Colm, I say is the worst he was trying to hard and it didn't work. Thanks for the clip, I like hearing all the different versions of Phantoms.

  • Not a chance, lol

  • @PHANTOMfan08 yeah, Gerry Butler had no place in the singing role, but the fact that he even had the balls to try even though it was obvious it's not his place makes me have to have a tiny bit of respect.

  • He fuckin sucks. Really. Pardon my french.

  • @Happyperson290 hahahahahahahahahaha

  • Colm's sounds really posh and british.

  • Michael Crawford sounds the best out of all of them...Im not much of a Colm Wilkinson fan when it comes to Phantom. Crawford has always been my favourite Phantom

  • @Chrisrex83 Michael Crawford was my first (and favorite) Phantom. I think that Colm made a good Phantom, he's a great performer. But I feel that no matter what, he will always be first and foremost Jean Valjean to me.

  • @Chrisrex83 the original's always the best

  • To me, all of them are my favourites but I'm not a fan of Colm's Phantom for some reason.

  • Raoul sounds downright homicidal in some of those "you idiot" clips lol!

  • Haha the gun didn't go off for Gary Mauer. Nice Raoul covered it up though by changing the lines.

  • LOL! That happened when they came to my city too! Raoul covered it up that time as well. He must be used to a faulty gun. :D

  • Holy tenor, Batman! Am I the only one that thinks the high note from Colm is practically supernatural?

  • This is great...I love comparisons like this, especially since I've never heard many of these Phantoms b4.

    My favorite clips are:

    Michael Crawford

    Gary Mauer

    John Owen-Jones

    Howard McGillin

    Peter Carrie

Overall, this was great. Thanks for doing this!!!

Also...it sounds to me like in the Earl Carpenter clip, he sang "fun SHIRT," instead of "{cut the}fun SHORT." Anyone else hear it? I thought it was funny...had to listen to it again just to make sure!

  • happy that you like the comparisons, i've got about 20 altogether. Lots of spare time.

  • Gary is such a good Raoul that I still hear Raoul when he sings Phantom. Great voice.

i've seen howard many times and every time he sounds like a sinister Jafar from Aladdin. he sounds amazing as Jasper in Drood but I don't love his phantom.

that toronto clip is AWESOME!! wish I saw that :)!

  • What happened in the Toronto clip?

  • there are 5 different Phantoms and they share a line each in this. The show is strange because they each perform a scene each

  • I thought it sounded strange. wow, that's.. unusual

  • Yay you did it!! thank you!! (I would have thanked you earlier but my computer was giving me problems)

  • I'm biased. I grew up loving Michael Crawford, but I've seen both Gary Mauer and Hugh Panaro, and they're both phenominal. And I love Colm Wilkinson, but he's just not the Phantom to me...I keep expecting him to scream 24601!

  • me too!!!!!!

colm is jean valjean, not the phantom

  • I can't choose a clear winner because all of the Phantoms have to sound like Will...iam...Shat...ner during this sequence.

I really enjoyed the Toronto multi-Phantoms. That show must have been hysterical - does any video exist?

My favorite clip was the Gary Mauer clip. Gary was brilliant, and John Cudia's quick-thinking Raoul really saved the day when the gun misfired!!!

    Thanks for putting this together.

  • only an audio exists.

  • my favorite is Michael Crawford. i think he's the best! Colm Wilkinson and Howard McGillin are really good too
