I have never heard of anyone spending a week's vacation in Charlotte or any other regular city (i.e, not a tourist/vacation city/area). Charlotte is not a vacation destination. There are many things to do here for people who come for long weekends or casual visits. And this SHOULD be common sense, but it's just a fact that the larger the city, the more activities there are to do. (for ppl who dont understand that) And there are tons more things to do now than there were in the 80s.
I vacation in NYC, Chicago, Auckland, LA, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Paris, Cairo and many other cities. I love vacationing in these places and all they are is a city. But I would never thing to vacation for a week in Charlotte, why? Because your right, Charlotte is not a vacation place, why? Because there is nothing there.
If Charlotte would step it up a bit and get outside the box they could become something that would be a vacation spot.
chris, you missed my point again. charlotte is NOT a tourist destination; every city you mentioned traveling to IS an international tourist attraction. charlotte never has at any time claimed to be a tourist destination. that's like me traveling to springfield,MA, or springfield,MO and complaining because there's not enough to keep me occupied for a weeks' time. i agree all those other cities have some sort of historical or tourist significance to them like beaches or being the largest city in the nation. Charlotte is not a place to come and see the sights - charlotte is a place where people do work and earn their living. Also this video is pre-epicentre and pre-light rail so go back now and see that theres more to do. back then there were a few bars now theres bowling alleys, adult movie theatres and art galleries.
Charlotte is probably the only city in the state that comes somewhat close to all those cities you've mentioned, but still lacks the culture you'd probably find in most of those cities. Furthermore, other cities which suck as much as this one are Santiago, Chile (as well as the entire country it's in) and Dublin, Ireland to name two. It could be worse... Try Easley, SC. Choosing to spend two days there was the BIGGEST mistake I've ever made. That entire SC area is no place to visit.
@jettrocket350X--I agree with you completely. Charlotte is no place to spend a week in (much less a day). I probably would spend one week in Atlanta before I had to see any other NC city. What is worse is that TONS of people LOVE moving to this one state as if it's the only state in the country. I live in the Raleigh/Durham area and this place is even worse.
You might not vacation here but plenty of people sure are moving here. Charlotte is a liveable city with several vacation spots within a few hour drive. You have no reason to vacation in Charlotte? I have seen many cities even smaller ones have more character than Charlotte had when this video was made. I have been back since and it seems to be more happening there now. Maybe with the train being there now helped a lot.
charlotte is a lovely-but it is different..i came home to visit my mom in 2008; and it has changed;now; when i was in my twenties here in Charlotte--it was more lively to me--i was young--it seems there were a lot more clubs for young people-and it seems alomst everyone i knew threw parties every weekend to have fun--back then in the "crazy eighties" there was much more to do--and now when i visit--i hear my young nieces and nephews there-say there is not a lot to do--don't know if that's true..
I too used to come to Charlotte all the time when I was young, and in the eighties. I have always loved Charlotte. I think that is why I hated to see that Charlotte hasn't made anything of itself when I returned to visit. It seems to be getting better with the train, more people are starting to go up there on my last visit.

I've been to many big cities Atlanta, Miami, D.C., Philly and there's no way to see everything in any of those cities unless you live there and you have the time. But if a visitor comes through like you and you see a few spots and you put an assumption on the whole city well that's not really fair or right. I couldn't help but notice this was uploaded 3 years ago... Believe it or not Charlotte has changed A LOT since then. I was born and raised here, and it was pretty much as you said it was back then. Then I moved to Cincinnati for a while, but when I moved back it was like a totally different city. LOTS of people on the streets, street vendors out late at night, lots more to do. Say what you will about Charlotte, but it's A LOT better than some other cities out there.

Well now that you've mentioned the Seattle Needle, for my idea, Charlotte could make something almost like the carolina skytower (you know the one in carowinds. A big and round elevator which lets you see a bird's eye view of the park)
New Orleans has a lot more stuff because it is a port city, and it was one of America's original cities. A city in North Carolina is not going to be the most energetic city in America, I mean not many people live here. Winston Salem and Raleigh is better in my opinion. But Charlotte is going to continue to grow with the trolley system opening in November and Gastonia is industrializing more as well.
I just believe Charlotte should think about their planning when creating a new and upcoming city so it can become a energetic city. It is desperately in need of something to make the city stand out above all other cities. That is the point of this video. Please post your ideas.

Charlotte was technically the first US city. They declared them selves independent in the Mecklenburg declaration of independence which was signed in 1775. Plus we have the original Bojangles on west blv
Uptown Charlotte doesn't have much to offer because it's strictly business. A lot of cities are the same way. Downtown Richmond for instance dies after '5PM because all the business people go the suburbs. BUT what keeps downtown alive is, VCU, all the college kids roaming around, hitting bars, etc. Charlotte is just now starting to push condos and apartments uptown. When they do, the city will come alive. I hung out on College Street and was impressed with the atmosphere considering it all.
I think you are right about uptown with the condos coming in. I bring friends down from other cities and I would like to show them the big city of NC is not boring as they call it. But for now they are correct. Maybe one day Charlotte will be known through out the US like other cities are for their entertainment, creativity and uniquness.

I have never heard of anyone spending a week's vacation in Charlotte or any other regular city (i.e, not a tourist/vacation city/area). Charlotte is not a vacation destination. There are many things to do here for people who come for long weekends or casual visits. And this SHOULD be common sense, but it's just a fact that the larger the city, the more activities there are to do. (for ppl who dont understand that) And there are tons more things to do now than there were in the 80s.

I vacation in NYC, Chicago, Auckland, LA, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Paris, Cairo and many other cities. I love vacationing in these places and all they are is a city. But I would never thing to vacation for a week in Charlotte, why? Because your right, Charlotte is not a vacation place, why? Because there is nothing there.
If Charlotte would step it up a bit and get outside the box they could become something that would be a vacation spot.

chris, you missed my point again. charlotte is NOT a tourist destination; every city you mentioned traveling to IS an international tourist attraction. charlotte never has at any time claimed to be a tourist destination. that's like me traveling to springfield,MA, or springfield,MO and complaining because there's not enough to keep me occupied for a weeks' time. It makes no sense. Again, charlotte is a nice city to LIVE in, there is plenty to do for ppl who live here but it is NOT a tourist town

i agree all those other cities have some sort of historical or tourist significance to them like beaches or being the largest city in the nation. Charlotte is not a place to come and see the sights - charlotte is a place where people do work and earn their living. Also this video is pre-epicentre and pre-light rail so go back now and see that theres more to do. back then there were a few bars now theres bowling alleys, adult movie theatres and art galleries.

Charlotte is probably the only city in the state that comes somewhat close to all those cities you've mentioned, but still lacks the culture you'd probably find in most of those cities. Furthermore, other cities which suck as much as this one are Santiago, Chile (as well as the entire country it's in) and Dublin, Ireland to name two. It could be worse... Try Easley, SC. Choosing to spend two days there was the BIGGEST mistake I've ever made. That entire SC area is no place to visit.

What is worse is that TONS of people LOVE moving to this one state as if it's the only state in the country. I live in the Raleigh/Durham area and this place is even worse.

No I don't mean prostitutes and drug dealers. From what I hear Charlotte already has it's share of that just in other parts. I have been to many cities all around the world on every continent. I have seen many cities even smaller ones have more character than Charlotte had when this video was made. I have been back since and it seems to be more happening there now. Maybe with the train being there now helped a lot.

charlotte is a lovely-but it is different..i came home to visit my mom in 2008; and it has changed;now; when i was in my twenties here in Charlotte--it was more lively to me--i was young--it seems there were a lot more clubs for young people-and it seems alomst everyone i knew threw parties every weekend to have fun--back then in the "crazy eighties" there was much more to do--and now when i visit--i hear my young nieces and nephews there-say there is not a lot to do--don't know if that's true..

I too used to come to Charlotte all the time when I was young, and in the eighties. I have always loved Charlotte. I think that is why I hated to see that Charlotte hasn't made anything of itself when I returned to visit. It seems to be getting better with the train, more people are starting to go up there on my last visit.

We have a great city here and plenty to proud of. I've been to many big cities Atlanta, Miami, D.C., Philly and there's no way to see everything in any of those cities unless you live there and you have the time. But if a visitor comes through like you and you see a few spots and you put an assumption on the whole city well that's not really fair or right. Yes there are "better" cities out there but when you live somewhere and call it home you don't really see it as being dead because you know the people and places.

I couldn't help but notice this was uploaded 3 years ago... Believe it or not Charlotte has changed A LOT since then. I was born and raised here, and it was pretty much as you said it was back then. Then I moved to Cincinnati for a while, but when I moved back it was like a totally different city. LOTS of people on the streets, street vendors out late at night, lots more to do. Say what you will about Charlotte, but it's A LOT better than some other cities out there.

It's just a big suburb with bunch of chain restaurants and snotty people that live in mansions and they all try and outdo eachother with their fancy cars. Well now that you've mentioned the Seattle Needle, for my idea, Charlotte could make something almost like the carolina skytower (you know the one in carowinds. A big and round elevator which lets you see a bird's eye view of the park)

New Orleans has a lot more stuff because it is a port city, and it was one of America's original cities. A city in North Carolina is not going to be the most energetic city in America, I mean not many people live here. Winston Salem and Raleigh is better in my opinion. But Charlotte is going to continue to grow with the trolley system opening in November and Gastonia is industrializing more as well.

I just believe Charlotte should think about their planning when creating a new and upcoming city so it can become a energetic city. It is desperately in need of something to make the city stand out above all other cities. That is the point of this video. Please post your ideas.

I really don't know what Charlotte can do. I mean, all of the other cities you made references to have massive amount of immigrants that brought some unique things to the cities, and plus they are all on the ocean.
One thing they might can do is just stop making houses and maybe make a few other buildings or art sculptures or something that can make it more attractive.

I think we need a huge architecture structure in Charlotte. Seattle has a huge space needle, NY's Statue of Liberty, San Francisco's Bridge, Paris's tower. What could we build in Charlotte?

I was in Charlotte two weekends ago, it was off the hook, there were people everywhere, I had a great time there. Fun clubs, hot girls. This video sucks balls and does not portray Charlotte well.

Charlotte has the panthers, the future nascar hall of fame, and speedstreet which is the largest racing related outdoor festival in the world.

Charlotte is coming around and getting some things uptown but they need things that are unique from other cities. I can go to a club, bar or a restaurant in any town in the US. This was filmed on a weekend.

Charlotte was technically the first US city. They declared them selves independent in the Mecklenburg declaration of independence which was signed in 1775. Plus we have the original Bojangles on west blv

Uptown Charlotte doesn't have much to offer because it's strictly business. A lot of cities are the same way. Downtown Richmond for instance dies after '5PM because all the business people go the suburbs. BUT what keeps downtown alive is, VCU, all the college kids roaming around, hitting bars, etc. Charlotte is just now starting to push condos and apartments uptown. When they do, the city will come alive. I hung out on College Street and was impressed with the atmosphere considering it all.

I think you are right about uptown with the condos coming in. I bring friends down from other cities and I would like to show them the big city of NC is not boring as they call it. But for now they are correct. Maybe one day Charlotte will be known through out the US like other cities are for their entertainment, creativity and uniquness.

by the way though noone chills out on fucking north tryon street, people hang around apartment complexes and neighborhhods, behind all the bulidings and on peoples properties, the cops are way to anal about people on the streets at night, when i skateboarded i was in all the streets all day and night, those kids you ran into were faggots

I love Charlotte actually. I want to see the city make something happen. I want Charlotte to succeed and be bigger and better than what it is. The city is lacking on the creative city planning wouldn't you agree? Charlotte don't even have a food trademark.
I love the little area on Central Ave. (where the Penguin is) as long as they don't build a wal-mart next to it.
