umm, did you know that tehre were plans between Finland, Poland and Baltic countries for defence union, but it failed because Finland gave up because finnish leaders were afraid that when/if USSR would invade Poland, it would mean start of war which Finland's army couldn't endure. When succeed, treaty would had made Stalin to think at least three times more before attacking to any of countries in treaty, but would had meaned also full scale WWII when somebody would had dared to attack.

umm, did you know that tehre were plans between Finland, Poland and Baltic countries for defence union, but it failed because Finland gave up because finnish leaders were afraid that when/if USSR would invade Poland, it would mean start of war which Finland's army couldn't endure. When succeed, treaty would had made Stalin to think at least three times more before attacking to any of countries in treaty, but would had meaned also full scale WWII when somebody would had dared to attack.

Finnish estimates of Soviet dead are about as accuarte as Arab estimates of Israeli losses in the 1967 War. Finland fought a pre war and weakened Soviet army that could have crushed Finland like a bug in 1945. The only reason that the USSR did not take Finland is that the USA and the Brits drew a line in the sand about the USSR's borders.

I am not suggesting that fighting the USSR was anything but a duty for Finns when the USSR invaded Finnish lands. One does not have to join the NAZI SS to have fought the Soviets. I managed to actually kill communists in service to the USA without becoming a member of the SS. Amazing, isn't? it? By the way back in the "Cold War" when yours truly was facing down the USSR I recall you Finns flew Soviet aircraft and were pretty cozy with the USSR. Finnish character has never impressed me.

Those were CRIMES and the people responsible were tried by a court of law. It wasn't policy. The reason you know about them is because the crimes were seen as such and the criminals brought before courts. In fact the US Military is doing its damn best to keep civilian mercenaries liable under the Uniform Code of Military Justice so it can punish them for war crimes the same way we punish wayward soldiers how falter off the path of lawful behavior.

when I said that UK and France was going to help us (yes, I am finnish), I meaned Winter war, they were worried about iron ore of Sweden, but still.
And (later during Continuation war) we actually didn't stop when we reached our old borders, we didn't stop before our supply forced us to do so, that's why UK declared war on us, they didn't do a thing before we crossed old borders.
