Along with 'Tranquility', the English Rock band "Capability Brown' relied on strong 5-part harmonies and strong musicality and both are horribly underrated.
ask dave stopps at friars inaylesbury- they blew genesis off and out that night. Voice was a great albm- so sad to hear that graeme has gone.like the guy in barnstable i remember how remarkable they are- fantastic voices great production -
Queens Hall Barnstaple, N.Devon in 72 was my first They played for about 70 of us. Saw them a few times around the country that year then they upped and went. Loved them Always a decent show and I expected to see a breakthrough from them. Sadly it did not happen.
I wore out my first copy of Voice and my younger brother "borrowed" my later copy. Haven't seen it since.
I have not heard any of this music in over 30 years and had almost forgotten how incredible they sounded. Thanks for posting
Bizarrely saw them at a public school Hurstpierpoint College arranged by the brother of a fellow student name of Webb - does anyone remember when that concert was ?
Great band sorry to hear about Grahame. I got the Voice Cd from an international ebay seller(Germany I think) recently. They were also selling the Scratch CD. Check ebay out.
My brother-in-law Grahame White was guitarist/singer in both Cape and Karazy Kat... sadly, he died from cancer last March. Dave Nevin has been in hospital for many years, but I'm not sure where these days. Anybody know? I saw Ken, Joe and Roger at Grahame's funeral.
I have been a fan of Capability Brown since the seventies (possibly the only one in Sweden!), they're one of the most underrated bands ever. Redman on From Scratch (written by the equally underrated Rare Bird) is one of my all time favourite songs. Both of their albums are now available on CD on the label Second Harvest, great sounding digipak issues, no extras though so none of their non-album tracks are included (they made an excellent cover of RB's Sympathy featured on a Charisma collection).
I have to agree they were one of the most underated progressive bands of the seventies.
I managed to get a copy of Voice on CD,but I had to settle for the vinyl copy of From Scratch.
I think it was a real shame that they never actually hit the big time,I was one of many faithful followers in the seventies and went all over Southern England following their concerts.
I have now lived in Mexico for almost 30 years and am now enjoying the music I hadnt heard in almost 30 years.
I JUST JOINED YOU TUBE AND FOUND THIS CAPABILITY BROWN STUFF COMPLETELY SURPRISED.
I SAW CAPABILITY BROWN 22 TIMES LIVE WHEN I LIVED IN ENGLAND. I EVEN GOT TO KNOW DAVE NEVIN PRETTY WELL,I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER AND I USED TO TAKE PHOTOS OF THEIR CONCERTS.
THIS BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES AND LIKE rab591 I TOO LOST ALL MY CAPE BROWN MEMORABILIA WHEN I LEFT ENGLAND IN 1977. I HAVE SEARCHED EVERYWHERE, NO LUCK.
IF ANYONE HAS EVEN A VYNL COPY OF THEM,I WOULD LOVE TO GET HOLD OF THEM
The only way you'll get a CD copy of "From Scratch" is on CD-R from vinyl like I've done from my vinyl LPs. "Voice" was out in Japan on CD a few years ago but I missed it. One of the best harmony/rock bands ever. Saw them at Newcastle Upon Tyne City Hall in 1973 where they were absolutely superb. Queen must have listened to "Circumstances" on "Voice" before writing "Bohemian Rhapsody". Check out Krazy Kat too (formed by ex-CB members and who were nearly as good).
This brings back memories,Isaw them in Edinburgh in 72-73 I think.Bought the albums but lost them when I moved house.Any ideas where I would get a CD copy.
I like the lp Voice the most with a beautiful B-side, the long track: Circumstances - in love, past, present, future meet. I'm glad to have a copy of it from the Japanese cd-version of Voice with beautiful vocalharmonies like Gentle Giant or Yes.
your welcome! i saw these in 72 i think at bogarts birmingham uk. it was a pity they never got noticed more in their day, i still love Voice and From Scratch to this day but i doubt that theres any video available : (

Cancer where? I'm very sorry.
aragorn224 2 years ago
Thank you. He's much missed.
He had pancreatic cancer, which was initially thought to be gallstones. He went very quickly, which was probably just as well.
Grahame sang lead vocal on No Range... as well as playing the solo.

I am really sorry to hear of Grahame's passing.
The fact he has been recorded singing and playing guitar imortalises him to some extent.
CB were a great band.
