  • Nice M1 man, i can tell you have taken good care of it. is it field grade?

oh yea btw i liked that at the beginning with the pictures.

  • It's a nice gun no doubt about that, but how reliable is it? Like lets say you get mud or dirt

or whatever in the breach or even down the barrel will it still be able to fire, or would you have to stop and clean it?

  • Damn, I want it. ^^ I have a demilitarized (spanish) Mauser 98/Spanish M43 with extended mags from 1954 as deko, but the Garand is much more interesting. ^^

  • This is my most favorite gun

  • @Blahblobify I have talked to Korean war veterans of the British Royal Marines. They fought alongside US Marines and were issued M1s instead of Lee Enfields for commonality in ammo. I was told that Communist troops did indeed time bayonet charges to when several rifles had ejected their stripper clips, leaving a squad short of fire power. Communist Chinese prisoners said they were told to wait for several "Pings" together before charging. Of course this only happens in short range engagements,.

  • The only weakness is that stripper clip ejection "Ping" that tells the world that you have an empty weapon.

  • @SvenTviking i hear soldiers use to keep a spare clip and throw it on the ground so the enemy would poke there head up.lol good tactic

  • @Ryebreadman09 you are a totally ignorant fanboy. The AR 15 series of rifles are outstanding weapons, and make excellent tactical or survival weapons. The myth about them being unreliable is just that.. a myth. They require cleaning and care, but certainly no more than a comparable assault rifle. And you recommend a mini 14 over an AR? The mini 14 can barely group 4-6 inches over 150 yards, and the M-1 style action is very sensitive to dirt or debris. Much more so than an AR or AK. Stfu please..

  • Fuckin' sweet gun. I want one of those

  • that is a real weapon of 2 war !! uau nice

  • 30CAL, thanks for posting this video! Just acquired my first M1 from the CMP last month and waiting on Spring to shoot it. I was wondering though, what brand of shooting mat are you using there. Looks like a good one. Thanks!

  • Even though a lot of these guns were made it is very hard to find one in great working condition as well as completely restored, the people who put time and effort into restoring them to there former and proper glory deserve a round of applause

  • Thanks for the info, I can now avoid the infamous M1 thumb!

  • 7:05 for epic song !

  • I had a friend that bought one of these, i guess it was an original but it was heavy, oiled and heat would ventilate from the wood and oil would leak into it, lots of kick too but I loved it

  • @Sauron767

when it was fired a lot that is

  • Iv always wanted to shoot one of these.

I know the m1 carbine isnt very powerfull but iv always wanted to shoot one of them too.

  • 7:05 for the distinctive 'ping'

  • in New Vegas this gun kills commies

  • Excellent video. Thanks.

    Semper Fi....

  • This deserves to be called the bastard of bastards.

    Beast rifle.

  • Are these legal in California?

  • @shadowanddarkness

Should be legal in all 50 states. I think Commiefornia law bans firearms with an ammunition capacity greater than ten rounds. This rifle's capacity is eight rounds and it's semi-automatic, so it should be kosher in your state.

  • hi, i was out zeroing in my rifle when a bloke walked over to me and gave me a large bullet and clip of bullets he had found with his meteal detector, im trying to find out what they are could anyone help. The bullets on the clip have F A 27 on them and the big bullet has D M 43 ive just posted a short video of them on my channel.

  • Good video lots of great info.I have a M1-A which takes a magazine and is .308 caliber.I like the Military style rifles even bolt actions the 1903 Springfield is a classic,I own one and also a Swedish Mauser. The Swedish is in caliber 6.5 x 55 and has one of the smoothest actions ever and is a real accurate.rifle.

  • Those sights are so cool. Great rifle!

  • What craftsmanship! So this is the gun for the zombocalypse! Extremely loud though and heavy. Is there something similar that is lighter, something that would be good for someone on the move and for hunting. Survival stuff? ps i am a girl 135 lbs and 5'6 with small hands :(

  • @PulseofGlory The only think similar to the M1 Garand that is smaller and lighter would be a Ruger Mini-14 or and M1 Carbine. For all practical purposes you'd be better off with an AR-15 carbine (M4) than either of those, though. The M4 has better ergonomics and tons of aftermarket parts and accessories.

  • @3OCALM1

Is that an original? (sorry for the stupid question if it isn't) and if theres reproduction models are they the same spec as the original?

  • @Sauron767 Yes it's an original.

  • @PulseofGlory Kel Tec makes a very light 5.56 NATO rifle called the SU-16 that's a great alternative to some of the heavier rifles. It folds, great survival gun

The M1 garand is a fantastic rifle no question about it though

  • @PulseofGlory the AR -15 is a piece of crap for survival..you should look into buying a mini-14 or a m-14, the mini is a lot lighter (223.) but the m-14 has more stopping power.

  • @PulseofGlory The A-10 would have almost equal power, but would be lighter, and much more customizeable.

  • What an impressive rifle! I greatly admire the cleaning kit compartment in the wood stock--both practical and luxurious. The workmanship on this rifle is both thoughtful and useful. The sighting system is superb. The .30-06 cartridge, no joke.

  • I have heard over and over about troops listening for the ping of an empty rifle, then moving in. Saw an article debunking that. Good luck hearing that during a fire fight. Auditory exclusion and tunnel vision win every time.

  • @FED50H

EXACTLY !!! The stories of enemy troops hearing the ping and then moving in are total crap. The reasons are too numerous to mention, but anyone giving it serious thought can pick holes in the claim. You get in a firefight with bullets flying and someone on the other side of the battlefield hears a ping and decides to close in on your position....from ??? yards away.......with other people shooting....? The notion is ridiculous.

  • Great video. I appreciate GuitarFreak's note that the clip ejection sound could be used to trick enemies. Had never actually considered that.

Beautiful rifle. US small arms in WWII might have been resource intensive, but they sure were the most reliable, sturdy, and consequently attractive in appearance. 1911, M1A1, BAR, M1, M2... all excellent weapons

  • I really love M1, I think this gun have a good looking. Thanks for your uploading man:)

  • How much can you buy an M1 Garand for today Ballpark?

  • @ds10363

you can get super high quality ones from the CMP (civilian marksmanship program). Beware surplus ones, some of them have literally had their barrels welded back together. spend the dough and get a good one

  • The garand! Killing Germans and japs made easy in one or more steps! Batteries not included...

  • song name?

  • Nice video, perhaps a cleaning and maintenance tutorial.

  • DOEF DOEF DOEF TSJINGGG!!!!!

  • don't beat yourself up man 7:09-7:40

  • The best rifle in WW II

  • greatist battle impliment ever devised

  • Thanks! Awesome video!

  • Just bought a springfield armory garand made in 1942 for $525 and it came with 344 rounds on clips.

  • the m1 was and still is a good rifle

  • Hey, I'm a WWII enthusiast, an I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to own an M1 Garand, either .30-06 or .30cal in Canada. From what I've read I believe it's prohibited, as it is a military rifle, and has a ~600 mm barrel. I'm currently livin in the U.S right now, but if anyone can help me out, it'd be much appreciated.

  • @PlanetoftheRape The M1 Garand is LEGAL to own in Canada. It is classified as "non-restricted" meaning to buy one you need to pass the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and get a license. Semi-autos have a magazine limit of 5 rounds, but the M1 is specifically exempt from this. If you're looking to buy one in Canada, they are typically $1000+ for one in good condition.

  • @PlanetoftheRape Sorry should have said "to possess one" as a license (called the Possession and Acquisition license) makes both acquiring and possessing non-restricted firearms legal.

  • @52TulaSKS Awesome, thanks for the info!

  • is that the same thing as a 30-30 round?

  • @TheKaymor No. That's why they are called different things.

  • @TheKaymor No, 30-06 is quite different. Technically, a 30.06 is 7.62x63mm, a 30-30 has different specs.

  • This is my favorite rifle to use in World at War.

  • As great as the M1 Garand is, there's one problem with them: the gun makes a distinctive "ping" sound as you empty your magazine. During WWII and Korea, the Nazis/Japanese/Communists were all told to listen for any loud "ping!"s because that would mean that someone emptied their gun and was reloading.

  • @Mrpastry909 Not really.

  • These things aren't manufactured anymore but there are TONS of them. Surplus M1 Garands are used today in Army practicing.

  • After more than 50 years since I carried one of these, I enjoyed the video so much!

Never had to sleep with one but know of guys that did, especially if they called it a gu...........! Thanks a lot!

  • I heard that some nations still use the M1, as it is a very reliable, simple weapon, very accurate, and with good stopping power. If it works, why try and fix it. In the US the standard gun now is the M-16, works semi auto, as well as full automatic. The M1 is still a great gun from what I heard, and the history behind it. Would love to get my hands on one, set up some pumpkins as targets, put swastikas on them, and then fire away lol

  • I like WWII history, would love to get one of those guns for target shooting, before I had any interest in guns, if I had an interest, my Grandpa could of hooked me up with one for like $75, like mid 1990's. He had all kinds of guns and connections. Never fired, right out of a wooden crate, pristine condition, though over 60 years old. I would of bought 2, one to put away, and one to shoot. Damn, now they are much, much more expensive than $75. *slaps my farhead*

  • awesome video, good work buddy . ..keep it up!

  • I'm sorry to say i don't know why i watch these gun videos when i'm just an eleven year old boy i guess it's because i play a lot of FPS games (first person shooters) but still i have no idea.

  • My favorite rifle of all time. One day, I will get one. Thank you for the great vid !

  • thank you for showing this video my grandad fought in world war 2 and he gave me his medals and a bowie kinfe and a mi garand and 1911cole and ive been trying to find videos about and the accedent called mi thumb thanks for sharing the info now i can fire it :)

  • sir, please quit smoking...

  • 81 japanese and german ppl does not like this video ~~~ ( just kidding )

  • @bottangann dont say german, say NAZI SCUM!

  • @IsaacClarke1000 because not all germans wanted to fight

  • @IsaacClarke1000 Sieg Heil !

  • Just so you know the name of the gun is Garand pernounce Gare-und

  • Youtube should ban movie makes intros

  • i thought that was a very informative video. answers alot of questions i have about my ruger mini-14 why it has the garand safety and bolt action . great video. dude. thanks.

  • Great gun! I am looking to start my own gun collection and a newly reconditioned M1 garland must be a part of it!

  • In bf Vietnam i get this Gun tow and She is Nice

  • What would u say is a reasonable price 4 a ww2 era Shooter m1-garand

  • @WuWarPigz about $400-$800

  • Is there such thing has a bad Garand? Is there such thing as a Garand jamming, falling apart, or exploding? Of course not, the Garand is the greatest semi-auto rifle ever invented IMO. Sure, it's bulky, but it's accurate, powerful, and effective. This rifle conquered the beaches of Normandy, ripped apart the Japanese, and put a nasty beating on the North Koreans. You'll meet NO ONE that says the Garand is a bad rifle. At the time, it truly was the supreme Lord of War.

  • @Cozmolyne The only time, very ONLY time, only only only time an M1 malfunctioned on me was with dirt cheap ammo when it was dirty in freezing conditions, and I deserved it for not cleaning the beauty... I didn't know much back then.

  • @xSnuffedx

My Garand has functioned flawlessly in dirt, mud, hot and cold. I didn't think much of it until I bought one myself and fell in love with it. A Garand malfunctioning is as rare as a well fed Ethiopian. Either way, I'm glad you realize your mistakes. Don't make the biggest mistake of all by selling it; you'll regret it if you do.

  • @Cozmolyne AAAHAHAHAHAHA!! A well fed Ethiopian?!! Oh my god, that's brilliant.

  • @xSnuffedx

Tehe. I did feel a bit guilty for making that joke though...

Anyways, I see your a big fan of the M9. I'm personally a 1911 guy myself, but my past experiences with the M9 have been good; I'm thinking of getting a Beretta 96 here in the near future. Is it worth the money.

  • @Cozmolyne A Beretta 96 is essentially an M9 in .40S+W, 13 round mags standard, but they make bigger ones, I'm sure. It does utilize the extra weight of the Beretta, and it's basically an M9 with a little more bang. I like it, but I prefer 9mm to .40 S+W myself, I'm just more used to it.

  • @Cozmolyne my only response to this is ping

  • @videoben9

    Gotta love than PIIIIING.

  • @Cozmolyne its the reason m1 garand is good

  • @Cozmolyne exactly, and it really wasnt anymore bulky than other rifles of the era either.

  • @Cozmolyne I've had them jam on me. They aren't magical pieces of American steel. They are machines and they can break. It's like how people think the the AK is some magical Russian steel that never breaks. They are fooling themselves.

  • @esh325

I'm not saying they are. But the M1 Garand action was an ingenious design.

  • @Cozmolyne Yes, it is a fantastic design.

  • @Cozmolyne Not saying they are bad rifles, they are great rifles. But don't get the idea that they are infallible.

  • @Cozmolyne The only bad thing about the M1 is the way it ejects the magazine. German troops would often wait to here the ping so they knew that the Americans were reloading and use that brief period to pop out from cover and shoot.

  • @Fredfredbug4 But even then, its weakness was turned into something useful. Our troops would use empty clips and throw them down on a rock or hard surface, tricking the enemy into thinking the soldier was out of ammunition, when in fact he had a full 8 rounds ready to go

  • @GuitarFreak39 Hmm, interesting I didn't know that. Sure sounds like a great trick! Thanks for the info.

  • @Cozmolyne

MP44/StG 44 would have made the war europe a close one if Hitler actually let it be introduced earlier.

But yes, one of the best rifles there is, STILL, after how long?

  • what the song ?

  • It's not a M1Garand of the WWII !

  • best firearm ever made.

  • sometime this month i'm getting that rifle

  • I love to have this gun some day.

  • Where can you get a high quality leather sling like that? Great video. About the 25th time I have watched it! Nice breathing control! I have a CMP service grade SA M! Garand. What a nice rifle!!!

  • @Txman1996 I don't remember where that one came from.

    Just google "leather M1907 sling".

Or you could try MidwayUSA, Sinclair International, Fulton Armory, or Brownells to name a few.

  • 80 people are WWII era Tojos, Nazi's, and Italains.

  • @saj12100 North Kora has HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of m1 garands and carbines they want to ship back to the US but "Mr. Predsident" said no, so looks like were not getting them anytime soon.

  • Awesome rifle

  • this rifle is so beautiful

  • m1 garand is shit!!!

    mauser 98k is n 1!!!

  • This Machine!

  • thes are only sold for about 100 dollars

  • @patrick8098 Hehe, that's funny...

  • @pac6010 i'm sorry mr. All Tactical no fun but the m1 garand is one of the best rifles ever made, it holds 8 rounds, and is almost the same weight as the m14.

  • Anyone know a site besides cmp that sells em for around $600 - $900 ?

  • I have a used ammo belt for that full of clips and ammo but no gun!!!!

  • how much does one cost?

  • I love this gun!

  • hat gun is in medal of honor airborne

  • @3OCALM1 i was just thinking, i know yhat it will probably never happen

  • Those Sandhill Cranes must have wanted in on the Garand action at the range.

  • Wouldnt it be great if they found a giant stash of these and sold them...$100 m1 garands

  • @saj12100 Don't hold your breath....

  • @saj12100 Ya not only will that not happen, if they did find a stash they would sell for double the price because assumably they would be in very good condition compared to whats around. Aside from the nostalgia factor I cant see why anyone would want one of these anyways. They are out dated, the clip feed system sucks holding only seven rounds and they are bricks. Buy a newer style .308 or even a M1A and you will be 1000 times better off.

  • @saj12100 My dad had an opportunity a while ago to be some really nice surplus rifles, He got 4 mosin nagants for 50 bucks eeach, 3 SKS's for about 50 bucks each. He could have gotten an AK -47 for 150 bucks or M1 Garand for 150 bucks, It saddens me he didn't get one. Its my favorite rifle of all time :(

  • @saj12100 they found 87,000 of them. but oh so great obama banned the sale of them

  • @m14Lover308 lol ok i didnt mean in agressive

  • Good video. You're one of the very few people that talks about the M1 thumb. A question for you: will the bolt lock back fully if the gas piston gets dirty? I mean will it lock on the follower instead?

  • @jtschau The gas piston getting dirty won't affect the bolt locking back. That sounds like maybe too much carbon buildup in the gas port itself or something else.

  • @m14Lover308 you forgot the " "

  • What's the price range on a WWII used M1 Garand?

  • @BRONCOWEN I've seen a few (not sure when they were in use) that go for around $800-$1200 depending on condition.

  • "this is your war this is my war"" bullshit war is just economic business

  • heard obama wants to distroy some of these, sorry if im wrong

  • Great video!

  • Clips go ping!

  • 1 min in, you sound bored of the gun already

  • @Jackalofdeath your a fucking idiot

  • I has this arm in Italy in 1974 8 Alpin Regiment. I was sergent to the commad company of regiment in the city of Tolmezzo, region Friuli. DZ

  • Great clip brother ! I love it ! Happy shooting !

  • do they make 22 m1 garands and if so were do i get one for a REALLY LO PRICE

  • Everythings cool except the M1 does not give that much of a kick

  • My fav weapon =) Great video

  • It's such a beautiful weapon. A bit heavy and bulky in the hands but beautiful nonetheless. On Twentynine Palms in the california desert, I found a series of fighting holes dug into the top of a hill way out in the middle of nowhere. I must have picked up about 300 spent M1 clips, and there were thousands more, all in near perfect shape. Just had to soak em in solution and brush off a little the rust. Must have been laying out there for 60 years.

  • @gurumagoo If they're in servicable condition you could sell them on e-bay.

  • @3OCALM1 I have a garand of my own. I loaded about 100 with new rounds. The rest I traded to a friend for 20 M14 magazines.

  • @3OCALM1 sorry there is a no weapon rule on ebay

  • @gurumagoo If you did found a M1 Garand, that will be even more cool!

  • @AaronDell3 Believe it or not, I have. Different base. A buddy and I found what was left of one after a heavy rain on Camp Pendleton washed out an unpaved road. Probably fell out of a truck 60 years ago. It was a fused chunk of corroded metal and all the wood was gone, but you could still tell what it was. Had to turn it in because it was government property. Also, regs forbidding on base possession of private firearms doesn't differentiate between working and non-working guns.

  • @gurumagoo depending on the markers mark, retail for 1 is over three bucks. go back, get more.

  • @aponorth I'd never make it past the gate at Twentynine Palms. Got out of the Marines almost 3 years ago. Besides, it was WAY out in the middle of the desert, miles and miles from anything. The ride out there from mainside took almost 2 hours on unpaved roads. It would take a year of looking to find that place again.

  • beautiful rifle right there.

  • nice video, its cool to see history like that

  • i love this rifle. probably my favorite to shoot of the ones i have

  • The Gun that won Troll War 2

  • I wouldn't trade or sell my m1 grand for enything

  • Man, that is my dream gun My dad shot "expert" with it in WWII and raved about it. I sooo love that gun & its history. Thanks for posting this.

  • thumbs if you reminds to fallout new vegas

  • what gass do u use to fill it up

  • @alze555 'Gas-operated' in this case means the gases from the exploding cartridge not only propel the bullet down the barrel but also work the rifle's mechanism to bring the next round into the chamber. There's no need for an external gas source :)

  • @SOTBS thanks thought so :)

  • most beautiful rifle ever made

  • Where is the best source to get a Garand , been lookin and cant find any locally so where and bout how much (average for one like on video is about $850)

  • @Buckshot0008 The CMP has them and you can have them shipped to your door if you belong to a qualifying gun club.

  • @4:10 it also has a second usage although I would think not recommended. It can house a cigar or two. Like Sergeant Bull in Band of brothers during the Episode of Operation Market Garden.

  • Ping!

  • Good rifle....shoot fine from 500m but not so suitable for left-handness XD

  • @SOYUZ1968 I feel you man. I shoot lefty, had the clip hit me in the head twice when it ejected

  • 77 ppl are ww2 germans

  • Thumbs up if you're here because of Medal of Honor.

  • Enemy forces during WW2 were trained to listen to that "ping" from an empty cartridge to know when a Marine is out of ammo.

Alternately, Marines sometimes created a false "ping" sound in order for the enemy to reveal themselves.

  • Hey pal, I live in the UK, you guys in America are so lucky, we're not aloud guns, which sucks. I'm so jealous of your M1! That 'ping' sound is so iconic, haha. Enough of my jealousy rant, keep that thing safe! :D nice video by the way, learnt something new about the 'M1 finger'.

  • there was M1 Garand and M1 Carbine right?

  • @gabrocki Yes

  • good video how mach money it??
