I've heard that before installing a new, different weight flywheel you need to get the engine balanced, but how does one go about doing this? What are the most important factors, the harmonic balancer and the crank journal bearings?
@TheScientist0000000 if you get a custom flywheel on a rotary you need to have a counter-balance from an automatic installed. the factory flywheel has a counterbalance built in and without it your engine will vibrate to pieces
This is an occurance particularly when you lighten a factory flywheel. Its not a safe practice. They are designed for a specific load which means the material needs a minimum mass. A friend of mine had his flywheel lightened then put in his rotor and the thing came apart, cut through the exaust, his fuel lines and into the footwell, (people have lost their feet from this) the fuel lines sprayed fuel onto the exhaust and flames were shooting into the cabin through the vents. DONT BE CHEAP.
i have a nissian skyline turbo that blew the flywhell jus like that on the main rd went through a house an 3 walls will part ov the flywheel did and just misd a guys head buy about 300mm luckey man he is i hav now replaced it with a racing 1n defintly went off with a bang tho made a bit ov a mess 2
Thats what happens when you have a motor that can rev to 12 grand lol. I'm glad he didn't get hurt. Go Rotors. and make sure to always get a ballistics shield when reving over 8.5 to 12
And this is why you either buy a flywheel from Racing Beat or a (more expensive) transbrake blanket. Also route all fuel and brake line to the outside of the frame rails; this is experience speaking. We had a clutch explosion in our RX-2 that would have taken my brothers feet off had we not anticipated a catastrophic uncontained flywheel failure.
Always build your car for the worst possible scenario. Never weld in rollcage tubing stronger than the Jaws of Life can cut.
@duanedragon2 sorry, but no, and no, the flywheel explode because you run past its tensile strength, this is not a manufacturing weakness, it's not suppose to run that fast, period, don't blame the manufacturer when you hicks do stupid stunts and don't understand the physics involved
piece of shit
